The Critical Fool

This just happened with Kattigan! His cold open and the book end with Primus was PITCH PERFECT, and it happened because he got deus ex demon kidnapped right at the onset.

If Kattigan had been at the theatre, it wouldn’t have contributed anything to his backstory or the developing story between the Halovars and the Falconers. His kattnapping giving us a beautiful chef’s kiss moment when Katt’s critical 1 comes back to haunt him straight from Yanessa’s failgirls. It gives us another character overhearing the insane plots of the sundered houses who isn’t also dealing with Termina or under the thumb of the Photarch, and lets poor Robbie have more to do and chew on during the scene (not that he’s not clearly having a blast during the city scenes, but it’s been an ongoing joke that Kattigan is in the background most of the time with an occasional comedy sniper moment).

It has awesome impact, the player(s) are totally on board with it, and it also served to balance the party in a potentially very dangerous situation. (We could have had some extra help in Obrimus but you know what it’s fine and made for a great story beat too lol. No one has died! Yet.)
