Glorious in Dumaguete (at Dumaguete City)

In the month of May all over the Philippines, the Heritage Month is celebrated to preserve historical artifacts, literature and arts all over the country.

With the organization of Dumaguete City Tourism Office headed by Mrs. Jacqueline Veloso-Antonio , a group of events were made to celebrate the occasion.

Even we were this year on a very tight schedule we manage to get to the lovely municipality of Basay following the invitation of the local tourism officer to spend some great time in the municipality on the border to Negros Occidental.

The Kapaw Festival 2017 in Basay did once again exceed all expectations. Find some pictures of showdown and street dancing in our gallery here.

We happily followed the invitation of our friends in Bayawan and travelled to the wonderful city in the south of Negros Island. The Miss Bayawan 2017 pageant was held the night before the Tawo Tawo Festival at the City Quadrangle. After a nice dinner and a short stroll on the colorful lit plaza we took our seats in front of the stage and waited with hundreds of Bayawanons for the show to begin.

The lovely ladies of last years Miss Bayawan competition as a Warm Up for this year

Bayawan City is very well known for their Tawo-tawo Festival, also known as the Scarecrow Festival, which the people of Bayawan annually celebrate on the 18th of February. They give honor and praise to their city patron saint Santo Tomas Villanueva as they celebrate this festival. The Tawo-tawo Festival focuses on the great difference the tawo-tawo has brought the city after driving the crows away.

Visitors from all over Negros and the Philippines will travel to Bayawan City to celebrate the Tawo Tawo Festival 2017. Find here the schedule of activities

When the attention of the media and the crowd are focused on Cebu and their Sinulog Festival, we went to the lovely municipality of Jimalalud where the Sinulog de Jimalalud 2017 was celebrated.

Sinulog de Jimalalud 2017 was celebrated on January 15th to honor Senior Santo Niño. See some pictures of the festival here.

After we have been there already last year, we really look forward to visit the municipality in the northern part of Negros Oriental.
