Part of her wished River would end it. Kovarian froze and stared up at her. What the hell was she talking of?! “Y-your rules?!” She hissed out. God no!

River put her hand over the button so Kovarian would understand there was no messing about that River would tolerate "You, for one, are not going to come near my husband. Is the first rule clear?"

One of the most heartbreaking moments in the whole of Doctor Who takes place in this single frame. In this shot we see River—real, heartbreaking, emotional River. It takes place after what’s doubtless been a rough few hours for River. After watching her younger self kill an older Doctor, one she’s almost linear with, she is being berated by her husband, a younger, foolish Doctor who doesn’t trust her and isn’t hiding it. And through all of it she stays strong in her resolve to hide the damage. Then, just for a fraction of a second, she slips. Just for a fraction of a second we see the hurt on her face, the pain in her expression. And doesn’t it say something about the brilliant acting, directing, and editing of this series that in this single frame, this tiny sliver of an episode, there is so much rich and real emotion? In such a short time we watch River’s heart break and our hearts break for her.
