What ever happened to big name RPG games being story and character focused? What the hell happened to Final Fantasy? You people ever play or watch a playthrough of Final Fantasy 6? That was like being part of an entire fiction series in one game. One moment you’re trying to stop fascists from awakening frozen spirits to fuel their magic-powered doomsday machines and the next you’re trying to stop a tentacle monster from ruining an opera. There’s that time the brooding ninja assassin, the himbo wrestler and the spoiled prince get stuck on a ghost train together and that time you retrieve a mime from his retirement cottage in the stomach of a giant sandworm. Final Fantasy 7 had a much smaller cast of characters and slightly less variety of events but was still fantastic and still had like an entire anime’s worth of plot events, the next and last one I really played was 9 which was a bigger return to that sort of thing. That used to be what “RPG” meant in video game terms but it’s like nobody does that anymore. You only get it from shorter indie stuff like Undertale.
