Delcrom Smooth Jazz in Barbados 2018

We arrived in Barbados on February 21. It is a good feeling to be recognised at Enterprise (Miami) beach without ever playing a note. We are really fortunate to experience so much love at home away from home.

We plan to perform on beaches as soon as we are settled. We have started rehearsing. Our recent trip was to Chipipe, Ecuador where we played at two events and avoided yet another Toronto snow storm. Who knows what comes next? Stay tuned.

January 8th

Aha!!  We arrived in Barbados January 8th and quickly became reoriented to our regular stomping grounds.  As lucky as we are we were met at Grantly Adams International Airport, GAIA, by our faithful friend and car rental guru, Abdul.  Once we finished the required transactions we hopped into newly renovated Toyota van and drove on the left hand side of the roads to Suden Cottage, our home for the next 4 weeks.

After a quick orientation and some good Caribbean laughs, the agent handed over the keys and we were on our own in what has become our goto annual vacation destination for over 15 years.  Andrew’s connections of course go way into the 1970s and includes a small, solid network of friends some of whom have become family.  Nina became a part of this family over 10 years ago. Since then we have transformed from being mere tourists or visitors, to Visiting Musicians.

We knew we had arrived when on entering Johnny Cool’s beach bar, Johnny Cool himself greeted us with joyful hugs and “Welcome Home!” 

The cold Banks tasted better after that, and even better after he invited to bring our music to his bar once we got settled.  Yes.  We are home away from home.  The real fun begins when we meet with the “family”, Carole and Ian and have musical jams with their band at their gigs.
