Erika: No, I was just thinking it was rare to see you on the floor we’re usually at instead of the humanities and history corner. What were you looking at? Kadota: Ah, this. Erika: ‘The World’s Swords…’ Ahh, you like these sort of topics. You were reading explanatory material on clubs and spears or something earlier. Kadota: I just have a genuine interest. Erika: Do you want try using them? Do you? Kadota: I can’t. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to try wielding them though… But even if I did, I wouldn’t bring them to you when you’re making a face like that. Erika: Tch, and I was just thinking I could have you cosplay as a military commander.

Erika: Hey Dotachin, when you work what do you think of while you plaster the walls? Kadota: Wha-? …Sorry. I don’t understand what you mean. Erika: Well, a plasterer works on the walls in complete silence, right? Kadota: That’s part of the job. Erika: So do you draw an anime character with your trowel when you’re working? Kadota: I don’t. If I did that, it wouldn’t smear uniformly. Erika: Then, do you ever plaster the walls while thinking up a scenario like, ‘hehehe, how’s my technique? Are you going to confess soon?’ Kadota: Don’t make it weird. And in what sort of delusion would that line even appear anyway? *Sounds of shuffling* Erika: Oh, about that, if you fill the walls-…! Mmmff! Why are you covering my mouth, Dotachin! Kadota: I decided I really don’t want to hear it… I feel like I’ll greatly regret it if I do…

Shizuo: Hey… Izaya: What’s this? Just as I was wondering who it could be, it’s just you. Shizuo: You bastard, what are you doing here…? Izaya: I’m just having delicious sushi. Or is there a law which says I shouldn’t eat sushi at a sushi restaurant? Shizuo: That’s a rule that applies to humans. Sushi isn’t something for a flea like you to eat. Izaya: Is there something wrong with your eyes? The chef is giving me sushi, at the very least. Shizuo: As always, you try to get the last word in everything, don’t you…!? Izaya: Hold on, do you plan to lash out here? I mean, I don’t mind, but isn’t this restaurant one of your favorites? Besides the owner is scary, and more importantly, I don’t imagine Simon would sit idly if you attack. Shizuo: Damn… Fine, I’ll let you live until you finish eating. Izaya: That’s a wise decision.

Shizuo: Goddammit, this is the worst… I can’t believe I’m eating sushi next to that piece of shit… Izaya: Likewise. The food was good up until this point; now it suddenly tastes awful. Normally in a situation like this, a normal person who came afterwards would normally be thoughtful enough to leave. Normally, anyway. Shizuo: Shut up. Stop repeating ‘normally.’ Izaya: I simply thought someone with no brains wouldn’t get it unless I said it that many times. Besides, I think the sushi here is too good for you. You don’t even have a working palate. You probably can’t distinguish the differences among inada, hamachi and buri out of the nigiri rolls in front of you right now. Shizuo: Stop complaining. I can eat whatever I like. Or are you trying to make me eat so much I die. Huh….!? Izaya: Didn’t you decide on a truce until I finished eating? Did you have **myoga ginger sushi or something for you to have suddenly forgotten what you said? So you really can’t handle sushi at all. How about you have gari instead? Shizuo: You bastard, if you say one more thing…!

**Translations notes: myoga is a Japanese ginger and it’s said if you eat too much of it it’ll cause forgetfulness.

Mairu: Ahhh! It’s Ruri Hijiribe! Are you the real one? You are the real one, right!? Ruri: That’s right. I’m Ruri Hijiribe. Mairu: Whoaa, she’s so cute! I hate to admit it, but I may have to…… Not only that, but she gets to work in the same film as Yuuhei-san……It’s unfair! It’s too unfair! Ruri: U-um, even if you say that…… Mairu: And in the film you get to hold hands with Yuuhei-san, hug him, and kiss him. I’m so jealous! Ruri: Um, maybe you should calm down a bit? Mairu: Ha! I just had an amazing idea! If I kiss Ruri Hijiribe, maybe I could indirectly kiss Yuuhei-san!? Ruri: Um, I’m not sure about that…… Mairu: Of course it would! So I’ll have a taste of those lips of yours! Ruri: ! Mairu: Ah, wait! Don’t run away! Wait!

Mikado: Umm, you’re-……. Chiaki: Chiaki Igarashi. I’m Yoshimune-kun’s friend. That said, I believe you’re Yoshimune-kun’s…… Mikado: Yeah, we’re classmates. I’m Ryuugamine. Chiaki: I thought so. I had a feeling that was who you were. Hey, can I ask you something……Is there a bespectacled girl with a huge chest in Raira? I saw her with Yoshimune-kun a while back. Mikado: Chest……Glasses……You probably mean Sonohara-san. Chiaki: Ah, yes! That was her name! Are you acquaintances with her? Mikado: Sonohara-san is more than an acquaintance; she’s a classmate. She’s in the same class as Miyoshi-kun and I. Sonohara-san and I are also class representatives. We took Miyoshi-kun and showed him around Ikebukuro when he first got here. Chiaki: Eh? Really!? You two are class reps? Ryuugamine-kun, give it your best! You can give it your all! I’ll support you! Mikado: (……What for?)

Masaomi: Wai-, are you…… You’re Yoshiyoshi’s friend! The Eli-girl! From the ladies school! Chiaki: You know Yoshimune-kun? Masaomi: Yes! I’m Yoshiyoshi’s number one best friend, an instructor on life, and a love specialist - Masaomi Kida. Chiaki: I haven’t heard of you from Yoshimune-kun though. Masaomi: But you heard of me now, right? So now it’s all okay! Meeting you here must have been fate. How about we go around the corner for some tea? Chiaki: Hmm, slow down…… I just met you and I don’t know you really well. Masaomi: It’s fine. I don’t know you either, so I don’t mind! Chiaki: It bothers me!

As most of you know, there is a Tsukumoya mention in episode 2 of Durarara!!x2 Sho, but I wasn’t sure if the rest of the e-mails were ever translated or mentioned. I really like some of the details the anime team worked on. Nearly every shot of a computer screen or cell phone has information on it that makes sense for the narrative, although not all of it makes complete sense as you’ll see:

The top of the screen and the mailbox says there are 5 e-mails in it, but there are clearly more than 5 e-mails.

There are 3 folders named work A.

There are two e-mails from a Zoezoe, which promoted reports on Ikebukuro in a server. Likewise, there is an e-mail from Tachio which also said it’d give reports on Shibuya, but the first line in the e-mail from Tachio talked about what’s coming up in this season’s anime.

An e-mail from Tsukuomoya, which contained an image attachment, and an e-mail from Shiki-san asking Izaya to come to the office “tomorrow at 5 pm.”

There’s an e-mail from an [email protected] (this has to be completely made up without trying too hard), but it seems related to the e-mail before it with a 三井佳代子, and in that e-mail it talked about “taking their inheritance money before they die,” and it mentions they have some sort of illness. Before it cuts off, it looks like they’re about to say they don’t have long to live.

Two other e-mail addresses are listed like Zoezoe and Tachio but for the Ueno and Shinjuku areas.

There is a message from Nakura, saying Izaya’s items have arrived.

It’s cut off, but the last e-mail looks like a job request.

My personal favorite is the folders. Some are half-assed or seem really unorganized since there are folders like “personal” and “personal-2″ or “work” and “work 2″ (plus the 3 work A folders), but my favorite is the “friend” folder.
