Last Chance (Chapter one)
It was the last day of high school in peach creek. The air was buzzing with excitement, The birds were silent just before the final dismissal bell went off. The front doors swung open and a flood of students came rushing out. Eddy and Edd were walking out talking about summer plans, and Ed had dropped out after junior year. “So, Eddy, now that we are out of high school what are your future plans?” Edd said as he was throwing his old math papers out. Eddy just watched him, he'd already thrown his entire bag out last week. “People actually plan for summer?” he quirks an eyebrow at edd. “Why should we plan anything? We all got girlfriends, sockhead.” he pulled out a blunt from his pocket and lit it. Edd sniffed the air once or twice. “Well eddy i in fact don't have a girl— where did you get that?” he froze and looked at the ember glow. “Is that..?” he sniffed a few more times. “Marijuana?! Eddy where did you.. How did you..” he was panicking now… he pulled at his hat as he stared at the blunt. Eddy took a drag before he answered Edd's chain of worried questions. “Would you stop asking so many questions, Double D? It's just weed.” he smiled at the lit stick between his fingers. “I got it from Lee. Turns out she ain't so bad!”
Walking back to the cul-de-sack, Edd was lecturing Eddy on his poor choices. “JUST WEED?!” he shouted, clearly worried about his friend. “Do you understand what it could do to the still developing mind?!” he tugged at his hat. Eddy beside him, was watching edd, enjoying his concern. “Then imaging the addiction chain!! First it's weed then cocaine. What next?! SHROOMS?!” he shouted directly at Eddy this time. Eddy's face shifted to a frown with furrowed brows. He leaned back as he walked and stuffed his hands in his pockets. “Shut up, ain't doin anything hard….” he rolled his eyes at the thought of snorting powder or eating mushrooms. “If i ate shrooms you might as well put me in overalls and call me mario, sock he—” he was interrupted when his phone started ringing. He fished it out of his pocket, quickly, flipping it open and answering Lee's call. “Hhheeeyyy baby…” he said into the receiver. Lee's voice came through loud and angry. She was yelling about him needing to pick up and order from Johnny. “Pick up an order— lee this isn't a great— yeah… okay okay.. Order pick up… yup… bye” he closed his phone and looked at double d. Edd just looked at Eddy with this disappointed look with his arms crossed. Eddy couldn't look away or even move on from this situation, he knew he was caught and had to face the music. “Alright alright, I may or may not have gotten hooked on cocaine.” he admitted with an eyeroll. He was the only one to continue walking, edd stayed stationary clearly unimpressed. Eddy looked back over his shoulder and quirked a smirk. “Psh.. what is it, double d? “ he snorted out as he walked back to face him.
“What is it?” he asked. “WHAT IS IT?!” he echoed but louder this time. Eddy's smirk faltered almost instantly. “First you start smoking pot on school grounds underaged mind you, then Lee calls and says to pick up an order, now you tell me you're using cocaine AFTER telling me ‘you don't use anything hard’” edd scolded eddy in one breath. Eddy just stood there in shock and anger. He scoffed before speaking. “I said I wouldn't do shrooms, double d. And last i checked, what im buying arent shrooms.” he snorted out. He started to step closer to Edd as he spoke. “And if youre gonna control my fucking life telling me what i should and shoulding be doing, then maybe its best if we end this crumbling friendship here before someone ends up mangled.” he growled out as he poked a finger at edds chest, each poke harder than the last. Eddy pulled his hand away and started to make his way towards the trailer park. Edd didn't say or do anything, he just stood there in pain, emotionally, physically, and mentally. When Edd got home he read a note that was stuck to the fridge, a note his parents left to remind him they'll be out late. He walked up to his room, not bothering to take his shoes off, and flopped on the bed. Whatever happened earlier is now affecting him. That's when he knew that this was the beginning of something dangerous and the end of a good friendship.
