The Result of Boredom

*DISCLAIMER: For this post I’m going to be sticking to FACTS.*

There’s a lot of heat around the topic of abortion right now so I’d like to highlight a few things for people who might feel like they’re in the dark.

Abortions, even when it was previously prohibited, have happened for generations and generations. Laws surrounding abortions will only ever control how safe and accessible they are. Nothing will stop them from happening.

Pro-Life vs. Pro-Birth Maternity leave isn’t usually applicable in the workforce. New moms don’t get nearly enough time with their newborns. Early childhood assistance is very minimal with the Trump administration cutting $3.5 billion from WIC. Child support and visitation are flawed. Many many many fathers aren’t apart of their children’s life and get away without making substantial payments towards the life they created. The foster care system is horrific and doesn’t pay any of the fees a mother has to pay in order to have the baby safely. Adoption isn’t an easy thing for the person adopting. Birth control and contraceptives aren’t free and easily accessible and I’m sure everyone knows a condom baby that was the result of someone’s birth control failing. Sex education is also a joke, and without it you leave kids in the dark to figure things out on their own, almost always to their detriment. If you don’t take into consideration the quality of life the kid will have after its born, that’s pro-birth, not pro-life.

Hysterectomy and other Sterilization Processes Okay, so you’ve decided you don’t want to have kids and you don’t want to rely on birth control that’s only 99% effective. Where do you go from there? Well unless you’re over 35 or have already had a number of children your chances for being approved for a partial hysterectomy or the tube tying procedure are slim to none.

“The only exceptions should be Rape and Incest” This doesn’t protect women who are at a genetic predisposition for birth defects and genetically passed diseases and disorders. This also doesn’t protect woman who already have things like endometriosis, that can cause complications during pregnancy and even death. Some of these diseases and disorders are horrific for a child to endure, they suffer for their whole life. Spend some time on YouTube.

Places like Alabama where there ARENT any exceptions You are telling your daughter that her rape doesn’t matter, that she as a person doesn’t matter. Only the baby inside her matters. Don’t even get me started on the number of birth defects that can happen to a baby born of incest. Google can help you with that one.

Oppression vs. Morals Rich people will always be able to afford getting an abortion somewhere where they are legal. Using morals to justify the systematic oppression of the country’s poor only seeks to keep families trapped in poverty for generations to come. Pregnancy and childbirth shouldn’t be used as a punishment for women having sex. 100% of unwanted pregnancies involve men, yet they’re not subject to regulation.

Freedom of Religion & Separation of Church and State Right up there with the right to bare arms is freedom of religion. Saying that it’s “Gods will” that a woman is pregnant goes against religions where abortions are okay, and religions that don’t support monotheism. As a pagan it’s my right to have a child and it’s my right to terminate a pregnancy. Witches have used herbs to induce a miscarriage for millennia. Regardless of MY religion, there is a separation of church and state. Religious bias has no place in politics and shouldn’t be the foundation for this type of rhetoric.
