Lilith found herself stuck at HQ again. Brick had gone off to go check up on his slabs in thousand cuts, no one knew where Mordecai went off to this time, and the younger vault hunters were going in and out running their own missions. Damn she missed that sometimes. There was nothing more fun to her than phase walking right though a bandit camp. It was a rush, it was exhilarating, it was.. Reminding her of the old times. She cautiously looked around. Maybe leaving for just a few minutes wouldn’t be so bad. No one would notice, right?

She’d be quick, just head over to the dust, take out a bandit camp. She rose from her chair and made her way to her bunk,. picking up a small safe. She hastily typed in the code. Wrong. Damnit. She tried again, adrenaline already pumping, Wrong again. “Damn it, open!” She wrestled with the safe now, attempting to pry it open with her hands. Inside was her stash of Eridium, she’d told the others she’d ‘Quit the stuff’ but that was a far lie.

“Lilith,” Jack chides her like one would a wayward, rotten child. His tone is made of exasperation, and he closes his eyes when he shakes his head. His untouched drink is set off to the side, and his voice is full of nothing but disappointment in her. Really, he expected this, but it’s still hard to communicate with her when she’s like this. Jack ‘tsks’ and shakes his head, though his eyes are empty and hostile when he looks at her.

“You know what your problem is? You don’t listen. You don’t even try, to listen,” he scolds, pacing before her slowly, hands gesturing into thin air. His fingers twitch and his eyes can’t focus, but he’s still talk talk talking: “I mean, why bother? LILITH, has it aaaaall under control. And here I am, trying to have a nice evening before the end of all things, and you. Still won’t shut your mouth and just, listen.”

Something tight and violent flashes in his eyes, and he bites down hard on his bottom lip before he loses it. He won’t lose it, not before her. Voice terse, he finishes pouring out the shot of heavy whiskey and sets the glass before her: “Too late for what?” ( He phrases it so innocently, but he knows exactly what she means. )

“You know what, who gives a shit.” Jack pours himself a glass as well, and lifts it to her. Something exacting and purposeful is ticking inside his brain, and eventually, he inhales softly and proposes a toast: “To Roland,” he murmurs, low and sickly sweet. “And to the most TRAGIC romance I’ve ever had the pleasure of witnessing.”

She leans away from the glass as far as the bindings would let her. She can tell she struck a nerve in the self-proclaimed hero. The question in return doesn't surprise her. His daughter was gone now and Roland... Roland... She didn't have time to dwell on it. She narrowed her eyes at his toast. "Should've been you lying on that floor, not her" she snarled. "I've spent a lot of time on Pandora and I can safely say, I've never seen anything more messed up than what you did to her."
