Pride mural painted Aug 24/2015 during Ottawa’s Pride celebration...my theme was celebrating intersectional identities within communities of colour...this mural goes along with a piece by Ottawa’s BlakCollectiv honouring the lives and names of murdered black and trans women of the past year. Its in downtown Ottawa at the corner of Bank and Somerset.

Photographing the incredible and rare Spirit Bear aka Kermode bear along the Nisga'a Highway, British Columbia, Canada, April 16, 2014.

The Spirit Bear is a Black Bear with a white coat. The colouring is a result of a recessive gene that must be passed by both parents to cub and has been proven to aid in the bear's success at salmon fishing. There are estimated to be less than 400 Spirit Bears in the world, found exclusively in the area of BC's coast mountains known as the Great Bear Rainforest.

The bear's habitat is potentially under threat from the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines, whose planned route passes the Great Bear Rainforest. The Spirit Bear is also known to the Kitasoo and T'simshian people as Moksgm'ol, and is a treasured symbol of peace and harmony. Few are ever lucky enough to lay eyes on one, especially in the wild.

This large male didn't seem at all bothered by us, and even posed for some great shots! Give Thanks!
