Once again, Viktor & Rolf (the famed appropriators) make their move on the catwalk in their Spring 2016 line. They have eagerly pounced on the firmly placed legacy of the Cubist Pablo Picasso, and incorporated his recatalinear decomposition of form into this new collection. The silhouettes of the obstructive fashion are not new to the team, but they seem to have taken some inspiration from Comme des Garçon’s material choices. 

In the desire for streamlined simple silhouettes, unisex clothing erects itself as a genre of asexué clothing. But in the pursuit of genderless clothing we have to acknowledge the gender binary that has been set in place by our cultural ancestors. The refusal of the gender binary is an act, a reflex, to the foundations of garment gendering. I want to dissect the arena of commoditized fashion to discover if genderless clothing can exist within a modern society. As I have come to understand, gender is not decided by many of our predetermined physical features( skin color, facial feature, body hair) however we (as a society) have associated these physical attributes to masculine and feminine identities. So can we really have a unisex garment, perhaps my own understanding of a gender culture is biased to seeing the gender first before understanding the host of such garments
