Hongjoong knuckles gently pounded at your front door. The knocks loud and disappearing into the deep night.

His hand returned back at its original position. Which was on the very familiar banquet of flowers he has obtained on his stroll here. The flowers were wrapped prettily in ribbon to keep them from scattering on the ground.

They were placed close to his racing heart. His heart recklessly knocking on his chest. Adrenaline rushing throughout his entire body.

Hongjoong was dressed in a black tux, a deep red tie and pointed shoes. The same outfit he wore years ago.. the same outfit he wore when his lips, for the first time, captured yours.

Waiting patiently as his thoughts continue to run wild, the door swung open and he swore he immediately almost broke down upon seeing you in that dress. That damn dress...

Your dress was also a deep red. The skirt was puffed and beautifully swirling now since the breeze. Your shiny yet valuable jewelry you wore around your neck, your ears, your wrist. The boy just continued to drink your presence in.. since this is the last time he will ever see you.

"You look stunning.." A voice was finally able to come out of him when he stared up at your face. That face he used to plant sneaky, yet lingering, kisses on. Those lips he would crave to peak after his draining work days.

A small smile managed to stretch onto your face. "Thank you, joong. You don't look too bad yourself." Your compliment so to made the male before you break into a cheeky smile.

Hongjoong extended his arms which clutched the white roses and you accepted them. You admired them and you adored him. He is the same guy that would buy a gift and leave a deep and beautiful note.

"Shall we?" Hongjoong arm reached out for you and you wrapped your own around his own. It was before you knew it, you were walking your way into the past.

You thought long and hard about this decision you were about to make. To be out and about with Hongjoong. Yet alone, go back to the school where memories mingled. But you missed him. You missed this. But even though you missed all of him doesn't mean you missed what you both once had.

The breakup was not heart-breaking. The road you both were just carelessly driving towards was. The road full of way too many bumps.

It was almost overwhelming.

Time past and you both admitted that the feelings that once existed were becoming a thin strand that you both just wanted to hold onto. Not out of love. But out of fear to cause pain to one another.

So you both left the 5 years behind to begin another chapter of years to come.

But you both wanted to do one more thing before you completely part ways. To go back where this all started. Which was your school.

To remake a picture Hongjoong took on that very day but to also just.. to be a kid again.

"Y/n?" Snapping out of yourself, you realized you were now at the back of the school. The window was already ready for entrance. "I'll help you up." Hongjoong requested before his hand gripped securely at your waist before lifting you up.

You climbed in and your heels clicked at the ground after a safe landing. Instantly deja vu struck you as the large gym was in your sight. You felt so small in it, the moonlight creeping in the huge windows which was on a higher level of the building. It was close to pitch dark but light enough to move yourself around.

"Well.." The familiar voice echoed in the giant gym before a loud thud sounded signaling Hongjoong made his way through the window. "Its been years." He added on making his way towards you.

"It really has." 5 years.. such a huge gap. Tears brimmed in your eyes while you made your way towards the center of this gigantic space.

The silence was overtaken the atmosphere until a soft, melodic sound was heard. Twisting your head in the direction of it, Hongjoong held his phone and put it in the pocket of his black dress pants.

He held out his hand, staring deep into those eyes he will forever adore. "May I have this dance?"

You giggled before Nodding, grabbing ahold of his surprisingly bigger hand. His hand brought your own behind his neck and your other followed. It was not long before his arms were now on your waist, swaying along with soft sounds that came from his phone.

"The same song, eh?" Hongjoong chuckled at your observation. "Of course. Have to add to the atmosphere." It was your turn to chuckle, hiding your face in his neck.

As It Was by Harry Styles, the song that held your future right in the lyrics. A future your high school selfs would not even imagine to come between you two and largen the gap between until it was impossible to run back to close it.

"I still remember this day. We were the only ones here.. no speaker. No other people. Just us." He reminisced about the day, "prom day" to be exact. Where your parents didn't allow you to go and Hongjoong had a sudden late call in for work. But you both did manage to make your way to the school. Prom was over but it was not for you both.

Even though the school was cleared out, that did not stop you guys from sneaking in and making your own fun. All it took was some light music and the bright moonlight the shined oh so brightly.

"How.. have you been?" You were silent. So Hongjoong wanted to spark at least some kind of conversation. It's been months since you both separated but a small talk wouldn't hurt.

"I started pursuing my dream writing. Someone actually called me for a job interview a few days ago after reading through my peices." Your voice was always so angelic. Something about it always just brought some kind of secureness, safety, understanding. It was just always so good to hear it. "How about you?" You bounced the topic at hand back at the newly-dyed hair color man.

"We had a comeback. Met some fans and just.. working hard. My thighs are honestly aching right now but I have to work them out again tomorrow for the next comeback show."

Mature. It was what both of you were now. You both were no longer the same, young and immature, kids you were before. No longer talking about what you would do on the weekend, drama that happened online because of some girl that spreaded a rumor, none of that.

You both were now talking about the interests that began to pull the thick thread of devotion you had towards one another into thin strands without one either being dismissed by their phone or feeling as if you were not heard.

A flash was heard. You glanced up and saw Hongjoong stilling a camera in the air. Then another flash.

Seconds turned into minutes and minutes turned into almost 2 hours. You both stopped the slow dancing and just started to lose yourself in the moment. Hongjoong camera sure to be filled with pictures now.

But it did come the time where it was time to go. You were walking back to your humble above, you and Hongjoong arms bumping together to share some kind of warmth.

It was fun. To age back and experience what it was like to be a kid again. Especially with your first love. First love always did sound a bit cringey but not when you were young and wild. Immature. Still growing into the person you are today.

You both chatted, joked around a lot, talking about times where he would walk to your locker and that one time, "Remember your locker was filled to the brim with pepero?" He hid his face by just glancing down at the ground while you just continued to laugh your butt off.

All the laughing was settled down when you were not face to face with your front door.

"Welp, here we are." You clasped your hands together and glanced at the man before you.

"I had fun tonight." He admitted. So did you. What you had was fun. But fun moments only last momentarily.

You nodded, gripping your doorknob behind you. Your body turned into ice when he left a lingering kiss on your cheek. Usually, the kiss would leave you blushing just like that day...

"I hope you have a good life ahead of you. Thank you for tonight and the 5 years." Letting go of the grasp on your hand, he began to take slow steps back. That smile fading and so was he as he began his journey back to his home without you.

Tonight was the night that realization finally hit. That your feelings truly were gone. But you were happy you allowed yourself to go back to the past and to learn that the past is really just the past. Nothing will be the same in the future. Nothing would be as it was.

Past is the past and present is the present.

And present you knows...

...your love is not the same as it was.
