â â â â â âŠÂ  â  she hardly turns, her eyes harshly glaring at the youthful male.  â  . . . hmph .  â  a huff pushes against her lungs as his whistle echoes off the mirror.   â  arenât you a noisy one ? â   the viceroyâs words echo just as profoundly as her getas click against the glass like a shishi-odoshi ;  she leans her head over her shoulder. â what an odd boy.â she thought as fingers press against her lips in thought. ' then again everything is odd about this realm â
â â â â â  i care not for the design, if anything seeing my perfectly vivid reflection is more irksome than someone like you could even imagine.  â   her lips purse into a scowl, gods play a cruel game keeping her in this fleshy prison.â  you must be quiet awful with directions to be stuck in here for over an hour, boy.  â  she lifts her wrist and flicks it to the corner of the room near the exit, a small sign was above the doorway saying exit.   â  after all, there were signs for every major hall.  â  her tone remains empty and unbothered, as her ebony locks cascade over her shoulder.   â  well considering you made it to the end you should rejoice, youâve triumphed your sense of direction to some degree today.  â  a smile haunts her lips, lacking any sense of feeling. at least she'd try not to torment the poor lad.
âGuess I could be called a noisy one,â he rubs his chin, looking around the ice castle. His voice echoed a bit more than he intended it to, and when it launched itself off the crystalline walls back at him, he could only shrug. His own reflection looked back at him with confusion, and then he turned to her.
She was beautiful, but clearly something bothered her, so he wouldnât push it past that, instead shifting to make sure she had at least two or three less reflections to look back at her.
âSigns? Well, thatâs no fun. I can be a bit bad at directions, but I always get where Iâm going.â
âItâs almost like, I have a fifth sense or something, telling me where to...â He drifts off, counting on his fingers for a second, âA sixth one, my bad.â A chuckle, as it doesnât seem to bother him. Looking back in the other room, he puts his hands on his hips.
âBesides, half the fun of these sort of things is exploring, right? Experiencing them completely. And besides, we wouldnât have met if I went in and out and on my way.â
"Y'knowâŠif we keep running into each other so inconveniently, I'm gonna think you're doing this on purpose, Zack." she says, lowering her guard stick that's currently being pointed threateningly in Zack's direction. Though to her credit, how else was she supposed to react to a hand grabbing firmly onto her shoulder out of nowhere in the previous quiet of the space station? Whatever. That doesn't really matter for now. "Buuut from your point of view, it must seem like I'm avoiding you." And while that's not entirely inaccurate, it's not as though she's making an honest effort to stay away from it. They justâŠhappen to never be in the same vicinity as one another!
Until they are, much like now. And seeing as there's really no reason for her to brush him off now, it's best to keep him close if only because she's certain that they're being watched. "Anyway. I'd be a little quieter if I were you. I think I heard something in the vents earlier⊠and there are more than a few concerning logbook entries I came acrossâŠ" One of which she holds up for him to see, its pages are clearly smudged in what appears to be dried blood. "This, for example, concerns me."
@dreamsembrace
âHey now, Iâd admit if it was on purpose-â Well, okay, he would now that theyâve moved into a friendship rather than anything else, and there wasnât any need to playfully flirt with Aerith. And, well, not in this particular situation. When he had made it onto the ship, of course he was bounding around. The tech actually seemed pretty familiar, and heâd felt the best he had felt in a while.
But she was right. There was definitely something in the ship.
âItâs not really a problem, for a few reasons - but we can talk about that when thereâs not definitely some kind of...Something living on this ship.â He chirps - most people he knew or knew of him felt some measure of discomfort around him, and he understood why. Looking at the log book with her, he acknowledges the dried blood and pulls out the Buster Sword.
âWeâll need to be ready to fight in close quarters. Soooo...No Bahamut materia.â He starts switching out his active Materia, keeping in mind their space. âIâve never been to space before, but thereâs definitely been some training in places without much air. So we need to make sure everything stays, well, secure.â
@dreamsembraceâ
âIâve done treasure hunting before, but not quite like this.â The places the Katz guild would send him and his friends could be strange, but at least they hadnât involved going down to the bottom of some giant hole. Though⊠considering the path to the Ginnungagap, maybe he was being a hypocrite to find this a bit intimidating. Emil stared out at the fantasy biome ahead of him, sword readied but not yet drawn. âI do wonder what the point to all of this is going to beâŠâ
Buster Sword in hand, he turned to the teen, grinning at him. âTo get treasure, of course! And probably scouting - this kind of feels like how a scouting mission would be set up. But that just means,â he rubs a finger under his noise, looking at Emil.
âThe treasures ours for the taking, bud! Letâs go!â Multicolored materia shown in his sword, and he felt like he was definitely at full strength, and for the first time in a while. He started off at a good pace, not too fast and not too slow - definitely someone who has traveled on foot before.
âIâm used to walking around mountains, but these donât look like any mountains Iâm used to! How about you, bud? You look like youâre pretty used to traveling, and swinging that sword!â

Stumbling through the palace of ice, he scratched the back of his head, muttering to himself, âIsnât this supposed to be a fun house? Iâm not having much fun...â Although he did have a chuckle imagining Sif trying to get through the crystalline mirror halls, seeing himself look amused five times over. But seeing himself look amused as he walked along the halls toward a chime led to him seeing himself clutch his face as he walks directly into a mirror.
In his defense, the mirror looked like the entryway to a room full of statues, and as he was complaining (âOwowowowow-â) he turned around and walked into the room.
It was, in a word, amazing. At least thatâs the word heâs use as the chime rang out - to signal his arrival, maybe? Whistling loudly, it echoed off the crystalline halls.
But it seems he wasnât alone. An elegant-looking woman was in the room.
âOh, hey!â
âIsnât this place kinda cool? I mean, I definitely spent half an hour-â He looks at his phone. âNope, a whole hour a bit lost in the mirror part of the castle. But this place looks kinda cool!â
@kimonoâ
;; realizing that i didnât put up a starter call for Zack like I thought I did. Soooo like for a winterfes starter - capping at 3 with castmates exempt!
Two fluffy ears snap forward as Sif raises her head to sniff the air. Sheâs only just woken up again in this familiar place and sheâs unsurprised that this afterlife has itâs claws in her once again, unwilling to let go of a captured prey so easily. However, what seizes her attention isnât the familiar smell of the place sheâs in but rather the familiar smell of a person, because she knows that itâs not always about where you are but, rather, who you are with. Wolves thrive in packs after all.
Suddenly, Sif throws herself forward, lurching into a full sprint and kicking up the snow around her. Due to her size, she might bury a few cars behind her while sprinting towards one Zack Fair as fast as a bird can fly, but if she notices she doesnât seem to care.
She knows her friend is a lot more durable than the average human⊠but surely she plans to slow down and not collide with him at full speedâŠ
âŠRight?
@dreamsembraceâ
He doesnât smell her (his sense of smell isnât that good and sheâs usually not one to stink), but he does feel the tremors of the ground under his feet. Unless something really really terrible is happening, that gait can only belong to one person - well, being. Wolf. One wolf. A giant wolf who, as he turns around - oh, look, sheâs bounding right for him.
He puts his arms out and up, but she doesnât seem to be stopping.
Surely sheâs going to start stopping now-
Oh, nope, sheâs not doing that at all. And his arms are still up for a big wolf hug, and-
âUuhh-â Anything he was going to say is caught up as a giant she-wolf collides with him at full speed, sending him flying back and crashing into a car with an âoofâ as the glass behind him breaks and he falls into the snow.
Which, at least, broke his fall. And he doesnât seem to be any worse for the wear as he jumps up. âSif! Damn Iâm glad to see you here, too! I donât know what Iâd do without you!â
There is a mortified man standing on the sidewalk. His driverâs side rear door seems to be smashed in, with the shape of a person in it.
âOh, uh, weâll...Definitely pay for that! Sorry-â Turning to Sif, he shrugs. âThey even gave me my money back, even if they put me back in the apartments- Anyway! Hey, howâre ya doinâ!? Didja just get back!?â The sound of sirens can likely be heard in the distance.
He enjoyed the Sky-Strewn Isles - not least of which because he could actually feel like himself (even if himself was a bit of a foreign sentiment at times, with his new understanding of what, exactly, he was. But there were plenty of people like him, and he wasnât alone in this place, so that was fine). His full strength returned, fun to be had down in the coliseum, and...Well,
It was winter! Heâd returned just in time, even if his distinct lack of winter clothing tended to draw looks from people. Winter was a blast - soups and stews and hot cocoa. Presents from different holidays and celebrations. It was refreshing, and it felt like home when things rarely did feel like home. Not that Gongaga was always covered in snow, but the altitude made it colder, and winters there were always a blast.
Taking his hot cocoa happily, he started to look around for gifts to give to his giant wolf pal. With perhaps a little bit of enthusiasm, as he turned and brought the cocoa to his lips, he bumped into someone. Cocoa splashing onto his nose, he stepped back, âAgh ouchouchouch- Oh-.â
âAerith!â Last time he was here, he had started to feel...Weird, running into people who knew him when he was alive.
But, hey, itâs easy to forget that when youâre brought back from the dead for a second time to slip into a routine that feels so incredibly normal. Even if your nose is red from the hot drink that was just splashed onto it.

âIt must be easier for people to tell themselves that,â She says, voice just below a whisper. It makes sense. People must think that telling people that it was easy made it easy to move on. It isnât. Hansol couldnât lie to herself, but she still needs to move on. After all itâs such a bittersweet feeling. Sheâs sad that theyâve returned home, but sheâs glad thatâs what happenedâŠ.If thatâs what they want at least.Â
âMaybe one day theyâll return, butâŠit wouldnât be fair if that isnât something they want. I just hope that theyâre going to be alright.â
âHonestly, people need to tell themselves what they have to. But, honestly, its...Best to face it head on, right?â His cheerful words didnât meet his eyes, and those eyes glanced to the ground.
âHonestly, I should probably move from where I am. The original owner...Left a long while ago.â He rubbed the back of his neck. âBut itâs really just been a series of difficulties, and, well, hiding myself away isnât helping anyone. Ah, man...â
â...I kinda went and made this about my own issues, huh? Iâm Zack, by the way.â

THEIR SURROUNDINGS ARE AS PRISTINE AS the situation would allow for them, a babbling brook running FREELY to their left and trees that stretch into the clouds. barret doesn't trust it one bit, all despite how ⊠IDEAL it all is. the extreme cold and heat does him no favors, but this? the weather is perfect. it reminds him of the home he came from.

FOR AS MUCH AS HE FEELS strange about another soldier in his life â and someone with the telltale buster sword in his grasp â he finds it to be a rather PLEASANT occurrence that said soldier knows what heâs doing. why, heâs been AVOIDING poisonous plants like a pro!
barret canât help but find this whole ARRANGEMENT odd. a voice in the back of his mind says that it ought to be second nature to him, but he disregards that. why would he be used to touring someone around the woodlands like this? he feels a camera angled in his direction â but how could that be? he found fresh footprints moving in an utterly DIFFERENT direction not five minutes ago âŠ
âi can handle temperature change s'long as it ainât too cold. NEVER before been tâ a place blanketed in snow anâ in our state, i ainât so KEEN on changing that.â
âEh? Youâve never traveled up north? Itâs a lot of fun to play in the snow, and thereâs a bunch to do. Sometimes it can make travel hard, but if you can change over tires, then it just makes it fun.â It was true, he was pretty much handling and avoiding anything that came anywhere close to the two of them. Grinning back at Barret, he winked. âYouâve gotta explore the winter wilderness sometime!â
Poking his head through the brush, he turned back to his companion.
âWell, I think you get to pick the next environment, big bad explorer. And Iâm thinking weâre looking at some extremes.â A desert and a mountain, respectively, just...Chilling in the distance.

âMm? Oh, no Iâm totally awake.â She says, voice a little muffled with how her cheek is squished. Hansol sits up with a sigh and smooths her pants comfortably, âI donât think itâll ever get easy seeing your friends go back home, huh?â
âWell, at least I didnât wake you up, so thereâs that.â At the topic, however, his expression falls briefly, before a sad smile crosses his lips. âNah, it doesnât.â
âHonestly, anyone who tells you it does, is probably just lying to themselves. Canât blame âem, you know? Itâs hard. Harder when youâve got nowhere to go yourself.â
Hansolâs been laying on her side. Only one of her tail is swishing back and forth lazily, while the others just lays motionless just like herself. The one tail is the only thing thatâs probably going to let people know sheâs alive if theyâre looking at her from behind.Â
HansolâŠWhy are you laying on your side by a tree?
Mako eyes looked over, head tilted as he observes the swishing tail. Eh, was she...Sleeping? Did fox people swish their tails when they slept?
âHey! You alright? Oooor...Youâre asleep, and I totally just shouted at you.â Leaning around the tree, he looks down at her.

âOf course! Iâm a country boy, after all.â He was absolutely in his element. Rapid changes in temperature didnât bother him at all for a bunch of reasons, as he kept running forward, jogging behind Barret before catching up to him. A grin spreads across his face as he claps his friend on the shoulder.
âConsidering how weird all of this- Uh,â He stops, as though his mind went static for a moment. âYou know! Everything can be, being out here is a pretty normal thing for me! Oh, - snakes, and then - look up there-â They were definitely going into a more glacier habitat. âLooks like weâre gonna hit a temperature change again in a few miles.â
vitchslappedâ:
â â â â â  âNo, no. I encourage punching the throats of anyone who takes issue with non-humans, personally. I might even consider that a sought after talent!â There were too many of them out there, humans that were comfortable looking down on beings that were cut from a different cloth. And so, with confirmation, she allowed her fox features to show. âWeâd have a very sour interview if the opposite had been true~!â
âYou see, while not widespread public knowledge, there are people who know of my lineage and target me because of it. Our building gets targeted quite frequently because of it, in fact.â She was leaving out the times where the building had been targeted because she was a snake business-wise, though.
âOh! Good. Honestly, if you did call some previous employers âcanât seem to keep his mouth shutâ is probably at the top of lists of complaints!â Phew. Honestly, he really could use a more stable gig for security - he didnât much like taking too much pay from the library as it was, so the private sector was pretty ideal. âNot a surprise, unfortunately.â
âThings donât feel like theyâre changing much, and some groups just think that this kinda stuff will financially benefit them. The old she-wolf walks slowly but steadily through the forest. Her once grey markings have long since whitened and her pupils have paled over the years; she looks like an ancient being.
Suddenly she stops. Thereâs a gate in front of her that she can hardly see, but the sudden smell of iron under her nose alerts her to its presence.Â
Deciding the snow bank near the gate is as good a place to rest as any, she slowly lowers herself to lie down. The cool snow is soothing to her aching legs and scarred muzzle.
After heaving a long, tired sigh, she quickly falls asleep.
@dreamsembraceâ
He wasnât entirely sure why he stayed at the castle.
Zack was an outgoing guy, and there was no work for him out here. His commute was pretty long, and he had no neighbors to speak of. But there was something about this place, this castle, that tugged at him. Something in the back of his mind brought him to stay in cold stone walls.
And he could swear he saw someone at the top of the stairs once or twice.
But still, no need to be weird about it. He still went out and shoveled his walkway - it was something to do - and make sure people - who never came - could get in or out. Shovel tossed aside, he worked the gate free and stopped. Zack almost hadnât seen the wolf, since she had blended in with the snow, but it was rare to see one so close.
Walking over carefully, he knelt down. She was old, and her face a bit smaller than some of the other wolves around. âEasy there, you awake?â
He spoke carefully to her, so as not to scare her. âItâs kind of cold to be sleeping out in the open.â And the snow was gonna get worse before it got better. And bringing a wolf indoor probably wasnât his worst idea ever. There was also her being so close to the house - small chance she was domesticated, but there was still a chance.
â â â â â  âHmm⊠I see, I see. So youâve got a decent resume, but are you alright with the hours?â Running a company certainly had moments of boredom. There was nothing fun about interviewing security candidates, and Koyanskaya certainly could have enlisted someone else to do it. Considering her company buildingâs safety was at risk though, it was best just to do it herself.
âMore than that, what about working for a non-human? I have zero tolerance for someone that looks down on us in this city.â Her company was known for being financially cruel, and yet in the same breath it was always fighting for the safety of non-humans. A personal project of the fox woman, naturally.
@dreamsembraceâ
âGot nowhere else to be.â He chirped, far too quickly. Even he looked kind of sheepish about it. Scratching the back of his head, he cleared his throat.
âNo problem working for non-humans, either. I work for pretty much anyone, but the last guy who took issue with me letting non-humans into his club got a punch to the throat...Aand thatâs kind of why Iâm looking for new work, eheh-â There was no reason for anything like that, in his mind. But...
â...Maaaybe that wasnât the right thing to say about a previous boss!â
