Lmao I hate Boca with everything I've got, but to be fair to Boca, they didn't drop him. It was a mutual agreement. Cavani had several herniated discs that were causing pain and even with therapy, he kept getting injured. The responsible thing at this point was to release him from his contract so he would not risk permanent disability. It was the right call for Boca to have a word and be like hey Cava, no hard feelings but we hired you to score goals and you spent more time in therapy than scoring and I'm sure that as much as it sucked, he took it like a champ and agreed leaving was for the best for him and the club. He's had an amazing career and he was instrumental to taking Boca to a Libertadores final. That's not nothing. He should retire and be happy.
Hello anon! Yes, I am aware it was by mutual agreement, the club could not unilaterally terminate his contract while he's injured anyway.
You've got a fair point, I don't disagree with anything you said about the club's side. However, I'm not totally convinced Edi saw this coming and I guess that's what's bothering me looking from the player's standpoint, the timing seems a bit off to me.
I have not been following club news like I used to, but from what I could gather, Edi was currently working with a recovery plan of a couple of months in order to be able to come back for the last semester of his contract and retire on the pitch. He underwent the latest treatment like a week ago. Who knows if it will work, but I think that parting ways with the club right now was not expected. No one owes him anything though. Life is not fair, let alone football.
The worst part is that I don't even know if he will choose to retire now, unless it's absolutely impossible for him to play again. Which is mad if you ask me, but he's not one to give up until he has exhausted every possibility.
