The question hadn’t shocked her, in fact she had predicted it long before she had even requested that Akane accompany her. Peko was bewildered herself, this was very unlike her. She knew if she had given Akane the offer earlier she probably would of became too anxiety ridden, which is her reasoning behind such a late invitation. It was better than nothing.
“Yeah, it’s a little weird, isn’t it?” She responds after a long moment, avoiding Akane’s dark eyes as she explained herself. “Usually I wouldn’t, but I’m more frugal than you’d think, I didn’t really want to waste the coupons, and I know you really like eating food, so I thought you were the best person to bring.”
It was a lie, somewhat. She was frugal, and didn’t want to waste the coupons as she said, but it wasn’t the main reason she was there. She wasn’t much of a liar, but right now, it was too embarrassing to say outright.
“Anyway, I have to go, Owari-san, but I’ll see you in about an hour at the buffet, okay?” She walked off, retreating the situation. She was admittedly a pretty bad liar, and she was sure her resolve to keep her reasoning a secret would break if they spoke any longer.

In her mind, Tanaka would never attempt such a thing, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t take the threat seriously, she observed the moment for a few more seconds, before calling the hyper puppies back to her.
As she had expected all of them obeyed her, except for one, who only gave her a quick glance, before continuing to sniff and paw at the swordsman. She called him a second time, like before he looked at her, but nothing more. A third time, nothing, nothing at all, it was like she didn’t even exist, and although she had grown used to the feeling, it was a feeling she was used to getting from people, not the animals she took care of. After that, she simply came and grabbed the animal, before taking him into another room to eat food with his brothers and sisters.
“Honestly, I’m kinda surprised..” She said suddenly when she returned. “When you told me you’d be coming here, I thought they’d actually be afraid of you, but I guess not.” She laughed softly, adjusting her glasses as she spoke.
