I love how the smoke adds to the composition in this! Imagining what un-cursed Nathan would look like is among my favorite pass times.

@tseappreciationweek Day 1 (8/4/2025)
Day 1 Prompt: Restoration OR Hook
(I do have a submission for Restoration that actually relates to Hook, but it’s a bit more personal so I might post it in the comments later, make a private post for it, or not post at all; I’m very new to Tumblr and still learning the features)
Hook: TLDR: Thank you to my college friend for reading TSE to/with me in our school’s lecture halls and getting me “hooked”.
In general, I’ve never considered myself as a reader. I read and comprehend at a slow pace which was very discouraging in school growing up since it felt like everyone around me in class read so much faster, so as I got older I moved away from any kind of leisure reading.
Now that being said, I had a college friend who asked me if I’ve heard of or read The Silver Eye on the very first day we met freshman year. To which I had to disappoint her by telling her “I’ve never heard of it and unfortunately I’m not much of a reader”. She had already been reading TSE years prior so she was always trying to entice her friends to read it with her, but she was never fully successful. Fast forward to summer going into both of our junior years, we are both on campus for the summer. Summer was much more relaxed than during the school year so she was still urging me to get on board with TSE that summer but I kept resisting. So we compromised and decided that the best (and only) way I was going to read it was for her to read it to me. 🤣 AND IT WORKED!! Fast forward two years up to now, and I’m STILL keeping up and reading it and loving every page, spoiler, meme, fanart, calendar, theory, etc.
These are pictures of one of the lecture halls we would take over late at night that summer and plaster TSE all over the big screen projectors. She read through all the dialogue of each page, she showed me the Easter eggs of the hovertext, she used the white boards/chalk boards in each classroom to keep track of the lore we were reading and breaking down the family tree. It was the best binge read ever since I was getting all the lore and theories that were building up page by page over the years but I didn’t have to wait as long for certain theories to be revealed.
Side note: For my first year paying enough attention to catch AND participate in TSE appreciation week in time, the prompts this year are hauntingly relatable to my experience with TSE and my surrounding life, especially in terms of my newfound/early faith journey and a lot of these prompts feeling like biblically related themes and reflections in my life.
That's awesome, now I want to read TSE in a lecture hall, it sounds like fun!
For @tseappreciationweek day 2: Easter Egg
My favorite Easter egg is actually no longer in the comic due to reworking the first chapters, but I did manage to save those pages.
I do like the reworked chapters better, (even though I like Marcus and Idony’s meeting here, I think the new sequence does more for the story) even if it meant a loss of LotR here…
…But not here. Anduril is more subtle than the appearance of the book, but it’s fitting.
Man, I do not remember 95% of the Easter Eggs I have put in. When I have a book in the comic I'll have to use that red cover again, it's so pretty and it's subtle enough that the average joe wouldn't think twice about it.
Yesterday, hacking whiz Daniel Grace was just another lonely college student, concerned with little more than passing the Academy’s science exam and coming up with questionably legal ways to pay his tuition.
Today, his planet has been attacked. A disgruntled former prince named Ellatar Davarin has made an alliance with a species of magical shape-shifters called shades, and has returned to his homeworld to claim his throne.
Soon, Daniel finds himself facing the onset of interplanetary war. Fortunately, he manages to avoid the combat division… by becoming a spy.
As a spy, Daniel is shipped off to Telel along with a quirky team of cohorts:
A soldier with a chipper disposition who once killed thirty shades at one go
A seventeen-year-old farm girl with joan-of-arc style visions
A former police officer exiled for refusing to swear traitorous oaths
The only non-magical elf
Their mission: find and destroy Prince Ellatar’s hell-portal before the man-eating shades overrun all of Dralina.
Does it still count as a WIP if I’m in the later stages of editing? Image credit thanks to @thewindthief

The pastor of my church was preaching out of Revelation today on Smyrna, the persecuted church, and something he said took me on this train of thought.
The believers in the Roman Empire were not persecuted because they worshipped Jesus. They were persecuted because they worshipped only Jesus. Rome was a very inclusive society; they took religious tolerance and inclusion to an extreme. They had a whole pantheon of gods and every time they went to a foreign country the troops would bring back the foreign gods of that country and add their images to the pantheon. People in Rome could pick their favorite deity and worship mostly that one, whichever suited their preferences as long as they acknowledged all of them and the emperor, who was also worshipped.
But the Christians didn’t do that. If they had merely added a statue of Jesus to the Pantheon, nobody would have bothered them. But no, they had to sweep all the other gods off the shelf and worship Jesus only. That was what offended everyone. That was what made the Romans so mad they threw Christians into prison and beat them and stoned them, tortured them, burned them alive, threw them to wild beasts.
I think that a lot of people these days in the Church have it all wrong trying to be inclusive and not offend people. Your ancestors in the faith did not die so you could add Jesus to the Pantheon.
John 14:6 I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
I am entering the depths of moving and needed something to switch my art brain back on so I can focus on commissions for a bit. Here is a study of a little magazine clipping I found while packing!
Hi! Just in case it is unintentional, page 1x06 is missing from the TSE website. 1x05 is showing as in the process of being redrawn, so maybe 1x06 is as well. But if not, I wanted to make sure you knew. Thank you! :)
Thanks for asking! Oh yeah, that’s gone on purpose.
One thing to note is that all of Chapter 1 has been rewritten and thumbnailed, so it is just sitting on the back burner (as usual) waiting to be redrawn.
Here is the missing page. I hate it. While other pages in Chapter 1 have been redrawn 2-4 times, with this one I couldn’t bring myself to finish the art back in 2010. The main problem I have is with the action:
Sometimes in film fight scenes you can spot that the timing is off so an actor just pauses and waits to get hit. This feels like that except it’s in a comic so it’s extra dumb. It’s out of character for Apen who is supposed to be a somewhat competent person, with martial arts, and just in general. This is not the same person who saved Princess Delaney from their body guards, or was choking Noah out with his foot.
Me and this page have a bad history. While working on it I was a highschooler going to a college program where we had to take two full semesters worth of classes, crammed into one month. So I did not have brain energy for comic making and this nightmare page took more than that month to try and finish. It actually looked like this on the site for a long time:
Without this page there’s a gap where a reader might go “Huh, how did Enel get from place A to place B? But I’ll take that over this page. This page does not bring honor to horse ninja Ansam.
