Two years ago, I created a poster inspired by the exhibition "What Were You Wearing?", created in 2013 at the University of Arkansas by Jen Brockman and Dr. Mary Wyandt-Hiebert.

Today, I redraw it because its message still means so much to me.

Although many years have passed, sexual violence has not disappeared. Neither has the harmful myth that a victim's clothing has anything to do with responsibility for the crime.

When a survivor finally finds the strength to speak about what happened to them, they are too often met with the question: "What were you wearing?" That question shifts the blame from the perpetrator to the victim and only deepens the trauma.

That is why my poster depicts an infant wearing a baby's bodysuit. It is an intentional, final argument against the belief that clothing can ever be the cause of rape or sexual assault.

If clothing were truly the reason, then what was a crawling baby wearing when they became a victim of sexual abuse?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO):

Around 1 in 3 women (31.6%) worldwide experience physical and/or sexual violence during their lifetime.

About 8% of women have experienced sexual violence by someone who was not their partner since the age of 15 - approximately 263 million women globally.
