The last year has been pretty nice, he's been feeling better about himself ever since Geno showed up. The villagers were still not friendly with him, but they weren't coming over to bother him anymore, so that's fine with him. Dream still goes and helps them, though he's noticed him being more tired lately. Maybe they were asking too much of his brother again. He should talk to him about that again.
He and Geno had been together for a few months now, and things have been great. He's really happy that Geno eventually opened up to him and Dream, he used to be standoffish in the beginning, though understandably. Having woken up in a place he didn't recognize would throw anyone off. He only responded when they would talk to him, and eventually then, it wasn't much. Even when he had been staying with them for a few weeks, he would stay on the other side of the tree or a bit down the hill opposite the village. It was like he was trying to avoid them, which was later confirmed when he started becoming friends with him and his brother. He was afraid that this was a hallucination or dream that would eventually fade and he'd be alone again.
It took a while for Geno to realize his situation was real, and that they were there for him, or at least Dream was at first. He was wary of him, of course. But as they started really talking, he warmed up to him. As it turns out, Geno warmed up to him as well. It took a while to admit to himself, let alone Geno, that he caught feelings and wanted to date. When he eventually got the courage to confess his feelings, he was surprised to find out that Geno had also been crushing on him for a while, but hadn't said anything cause he thought he wouldn't be interested.
Dream was very happy for him if the flowers blooming on him was any indication, or the way he practically vibrated from how happy he was. Not like Nightmare would judge him for it, as he has been blooming more often than he used to since before the villagers moved in. It, feels nice to be this happy again.
Today was a good day, he and Geno were in the Tree, on one of the lower branches since Heno didn't trust going very high yet, even with how long he's been practicing climbing it. Not that Nightmare minded, he was content sitting on the branch with him. While they were both relaxing as the breeze lightly rocked the higher branches, Nightmare found himself thinking about their relationship. How he found he already trusted Geno more than he thought he would a year ago. How Geno was so patient and kind with him, how he told off the villagers for hurting him. How he had initially been really violent towards them before he told him that hurting them would make it worse. Telling him he appreciates how he cared enough to stand up for him.
He couldn't help but think that, if Geno would want to, he'd want to spend his whole life with him. It felt a bit too selfish, to want Geno to stay living under a tree and never leave. He couldn't leave the Tree, it was too important to leave unguarded, and he and Dream were its Guardians. What if Geno wanted to live somewhere else? He couldn't follow him. He didn't trust anyone else to guard this Tree, they'd just take the apples.
"Hey, you okay? You looked a bit deep in thought, there?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm okay. Was just thinking about stuff."
"You sure? You started looking upset. What were you thinking about?"
"Yeah, I'm okay. Was thinking about our relationship, then...."
"... Then I got a bit self-conscious... and maybe worried about a hypothetical about you wanting to leave."
Geno pulled him into a half hug and smiled. "Thanks for telling me. I can guarantee that I don't plan on leaving anytime soon, or in the future. I don't really have much to return to, nor a way to get back anyway. All I had in that Save Screen was a small patch of grass and a way to view the world I was part of move on as though it didn't need me. Which, is probably true. And Sans didn't trust me at all after what I pulled, so it's not like I had anyone to really talk to. Honestly, waking up here has been the best thing to happen to me. You are the best thing to happen to me."
Nightmare's face turned purple when he said that, and hid his face in Geno's shoulder. He mumbled, "...re.........bes.....too."
"What was that? I don't think I caught that." Night was blooming again, he noticed. It was cute when he did that.
"I said, you're the best thing that happened to me, too. Happy?"
As it got later in the day, they eventually decided to get down from the Tree. Once on the ground again, they started watching the sunset, leaning against the Tree. As he looked to Geno, one thought made itself clear: he would trust him with his life. So, mind made up, he decided he'd give Geno something very important, if he wanted it.
Though neither he nor Dream have done this, they both know they could produce a seed. This was a very important and special seed, meant for only those you cared about most. They had no need to do it for each other, as they both already trusted and cared for the other greatly. It's possible to make more than one at a time, but takes longer. Only one is needed per person they would give it to. If he did this right, it should be ready in the morning. He could -
Nightmare suddenly felt a weight on his shoulder. Looking over, he realized Geno had fallen asleep. He couldn't help but smile. Gently, he adjusted them both to be more comfortable, and decided to just relax for now. Maybe he didn't have to do anything important right now.
Later, when Dream finally returned just as the sun was barely visible still, he found them sleeping against each other. He managed to keep himself from making noise in excitement and happiness for the two. Making it harder is seeing Nightmare's blooming violets. He's so glad Geno showed up, he gets to see his brother really happy more often now. He feels slightly jealous he couldn't make him happy nearly as much before Geno showed up, but he is truly grateful that his brother has someone who can make him happy.
He carefully made his way around them, and took one of the blankets nearby to carefully and gently cover them with it. He thought he woke his brother when he shifted, but was relieved when Nightmare simply cuddled closer to Geno. He finished fixing the blanket around them, then went to sleep himself.
Geno woke to violets in his face and a very much still asleep Night, who was slightly purring in his sleep. He then noticed how they both had gotten a bit tangled under the blanket he did not remember being there before he fell asleep. He decided to accept the situation and just relax. Why move and wake up your boyfriend when you can continue cuddling him?
It didn't last too long, as Nightmare woke up soon after Geno did. They eventually got up to eat with Dream and start their day. Geno noticed that Nightmare seemed in deep thought most of the morning, but chose to let him think. He was clearly thinking hard about something, and he'll eventually talk to him about it, he's sure. There was a small part of him that worried that maybe Nightmare was thinking of breaking up with him, but he shook it off. They just had a reassuring talk the day before, so that wasn't what was going to happen. ...Right? Right.
When the sun was nearly at it's peak is when Nightmare asked him to come up in the Tree to talk. Dream had since left for the village again. When they went about as high as Geno was comfortable being, they situated themselves on a sturdy branch.
"So, what did you want to talk about?"
"... Is something wrong?"
"No, no I, nothing's wrong. I've been thinking of how to put this. But, I should just get into it. So, I wanted to give you something very special." He pulled out a deep purple seed from his pocket, and showed it to Geno.
"Oh, it looks pretty for a little seed. What plant is it from? I don't think I've seen a purple seed before?"
"It doesn't come from a normal plant. You remember when my brother explained us being part plant?"
"Yeah, he explained that before we dated. We had only just started becoming friends by then. Wait, so, does that mean it's yours?"
"Yeah, it's mine. It's meant to be planted on the person I deem important, and that I trust with my life. And, I can't imagine anyone I trust more than you with my life. And I want to spend my life with you."
Geno was speechless, he trusted him with his life, even just knowing each other for just over a year? He must've been quiet for too long cause Nightmare started fidgeting.
"Y-you don't have have to take it right now, or if it's too weird, I can just- !"
He was cut off by Geno pulling him into a kiss. He managed to not drop the seed, thankfully, but he leaned into it, relieved he didn't mess up somehow.
When they pulled away, Geno answered, "I would love to spend my life with you, too. I accept your gift. You said you have to plant it on me? How does that work?"
"I just put it on you, and use my magic to have it bury itself into you, and it will grow flowers according to your magic. We'll both start matching, since the seed is connected to my magic. We don't have to do it right now, if you need more time to ask questions, think it over, and stuff."
"Hm, yeah, I think I wouldn't mind not rushing it. I'd want to ask more questions about how this works, but I do want to do this. I wish I had something to give you, too."
"It's fine, I'm sure you'll find something, though you do not have to."
They decided to hang out in the Tree until lunchtime, Geno looking closer at the seed Nightmare was going to give him. It really was beautiful, he couldn't help but think about what flowers he would sprout when it was planted.
And that's the first part! Feels good to finish a chapter! I know I want to write for at least one more prompt, so there will probably be at least one drawing. And yeah, I took the literal meaning. Also, Dream and Nightmare are both part plant in this one! Nightmare has violet flowers, and Dream has marigolds. When he's being super happy, he's absolutely blooming those. They typically bloom in a flower crown way, but depending on how happy they are, they can start blooming randomly and on the arms too.
