Far away, farther than the place where sun goes to rest, there exist dragons. The creatures from myths of old had secluded themselves from the outside in hopes of living in peace, finding their solace among the elements they'd first come from. Their lives were harmonious, food plentiful and relations great.

Then, like a divine strike, a tragedy arrived. Meadows flooded, forests burned, rivers stopped flowing. The dragons tried to run and hide, and many succeeded. Some, however, did not.

With food sparse and nests abandoned, the dragons reached out to anyone for help. The fae were quick to share their space. So were humans. Yet, as the bravest or most sentimental looked out over their former homes, wondered how many souls are still lost in the ruins, they stayed behind, making their life's mission rescuing those who cannot do so themselves and possibly finding them a home.

Welcome to Dragon Haven, the last hatchery and rescue center in the dragons' realm.

Hello and welcome! My name is Talentless. I am a fae and I will be your guide! This center isn't run by me, as much as it might seem like it, it's run by three dragons who are also the founders. I help with communication and administration with humanoid creatures eager to take care of rescues hatchlings.

The three dragons in question are Kaya (left), Neil (middle) and Valley (right). Oh, and I cannot forget their adorable hatchling Lucifer!

The five of us are here for one goal: to ensure the hatchlings' safety and happiness. Many nests have been abandoned or forgotten in the hectic times, so we are doing our best to save as many of them as possible. We already have a lot of baby dragons in our center though, and as much as we'd love to, we cannot take care of them all. Which is where you come in!

July is the national disability pride month, and this special batch reflects it! Starting today, you will have the opportunity to adopt a hatchling with a disability and help them grow, both physically and emotionally.

In the first band, we have:

A male scaled aerie with a deformed tail fin, making flying uncontrollable and difficult. He's sensitive about his disability, showing aggression and defensiveness whenever someone stares at his tail too long, and generally dodges social interactions.

A female forest terran born without a part of her front leg. She's cheerful and loves running despite being a bit clumsy, and gets excited about meeting new friends and exploring.

A blind male feathered aerie. He's generally calm and introverted, hoarding and playing with anything with a nice texture, but he's happy to play when invited. His inability to see doesn't influence him too much as he's learned to rely on touch and hearing instead. (The development of his wings is normal, all feathered aeries' flight feathers grow later in their hatchlinghood.)

The second band brings:

A deaf female sea aquat. She's hesitant, shy and very, very vocal for an aquat hatchling. She can easily read both critters and humans alike and thinks rather than acts, which leads her to emotional fatigue more often than not.

A male infernal without fire. He was found abandoned far from infernal territory as an egg, which led to the underdevelopment of his glades. He's permanently cold and sleepy so there is no further recorded behavior, though visits from other hatchlings seemed to always brighten his mood.

A female scaled aerie with stunted wings. She's headstrong, curious and confident, and has been found scheming a coup with other hatchlings on multiple occasions. She doesn't seem to mind her disability in any way, and instead pushes all her focus into running, making her a worthy rival to even some terran hatchlings.

Rules for adoption

Draw a colored full-body of the hatchling.

Draw the hatchling with their potential caretaker OR your critters (if you have any).

Describe how you're going to accommodate the hatchling in at least one paragraph. It can be both physical or emotional with no wrong answers!

Pick a name for your hatchling.

If you're picked as the caretaker of a hatchling, we would appreciate an update a few weeks later, to see how they're doing and how they integrated into the family (optional).

Written submissions must be at least 300 words long.

Cooldowns don't apply.

You have until the end of July to submit.

Winners will be chosen by the spin of the wheel, so don't feel like you have to rush.

Willow was out one day with Ari and a few critters in an open field. all of them trying to learn something new. Willow was working on being able to turn into her more humanoid form on command. A few of the critters cheered her on. Some other critters were trying to teach each other how to do things like swim, move fast, do tricks, etc. And Ari was trying to learn to fly, because though she had wings she never really learned to use them for their actual purpose. Though she didn't really know how she was going to manage to do that on her own, most of the critters brought along couldn't fly or had a different build of wings then Ari, and Willow was busy learning her own thing. This left Ari stuck with no help or examples. Suddenly a beautiful bird-like dragon, with big beautiful wings, and a pretty similar build to Ari's wings. They had walked up to Ari showing off their wings and how they could fly. What Ari didn't realize is that they were trying to help and had overheard the problem Ari had. After a few minutes of confusion Ari had realized that they were trying to help, so Ari happily and excitedly accepted the offer and paid close attention trying to understand and communicate as best as she could with this creature. Eventually a worker from the nearby dragon adoption center had come looking for this beautiful critter. “Tandri!” They shouted in panic. “We were looking all over for you, you had the center frantic and worried sick. The worker then looked up to see Ari before looking back to the critter that stood next to her and almost got in with the rest of the critters. “She seems to have taken a liking to you,” they observed. “would you like to take her home with you?” they asked. Ari stared at the new friend she had made and frantically nodded in excitement “of course!.”

As for the rest, I’ll tell a story!!!

Corey was trying to sleep, when she heard a loud noise coming from the creature pens. It sounded like a scuffle, so she jumped out of bed and rushed outside, worried for her animals’ safety.

She looked around hurriedly, listening for the source of the noise. After figuring out that the noise was coming from the Dragon pen, and as soon as Corey entered, she found Abyssian play-fighting with a particularly feisty Terran Dragon, whilst the other dragons watched on. The Terran was a scrappy little red and yellow fella with an orange mane, blue eyes, a broken antler, and an axe shaped protrusion on the tip of his tail. He seemed to be headbutting Abyssian while Abyssian continued to try and bite him. After a bit of a scuffle, Abyssian was knocked over by the Terran. Corey was confused and concerned that it was a real fight, and that Abyssian could get hurt, since she knew that dragons, especially different breeds of them, could be pretty territorial towards one another in their adulthood, but these were juveniles, so she wasn’t quite sure.

“What’s going on in here? Stop that! I don’t want you guys to hurt each other!”

The play fight immediately stopped, and the Terran stared up at Corey with a playful curiosity. So it wasn’t a real fight? Corey didn’t have much time to think about that, because the Terran then attempted to swing his tail at her. And when the first attempt didn’t work and he missed Corey, he ran back and headbutted her, knocking her off balance.

“Woah! Calm down boy!” Corey laughed as she was knocked down by the tiny dragon. “You’re an enthusiastic little guy aren’t ya?”

The Terran licked her face in response. He may be feisty, but at least he was friendly!

“Heheheh. I like you already little guy! Seems like you like it here too! But if you’re gonna stay here, you’re gonna need a name! You’re a wild, fiery little guy, so what do you think of the name Firecracker?”

Firecracker let out a happy trill in response. He seemed to like his new name!

Corey put on a fake wrestling announcer voice. “Alrighty then! Who’s up for the next round, and ready to take on the reigning champion, FIRECRACKER?”

Zuma stepped forward, eager to avenge her best friend’s defeat in a round of play-fighting.

“Alrighty! 3, 2, 1, FIGHT! Whoever wins gets EXTRA TREATS!!!”

Corey watched on eagerly as Zuma and the newbie Firecracker played around like puppies!

Corey had once again found a new friend!!!

Their fire mane is smaller than usually observed, but its temperature is the highest our adoption center has recorded. They also have short horns that don't seem like they'll grow any further.

They are an airhead with a love for the night sky. Supervision during playdates isn't necessary as they have impeccable self-control.

I'd like an infernal based on this gal right here pls!

What's this??

A recently hatched infernal has taken a liking to you! She has a sword tail, whole chest plates and small fire mane. So far, she's shown thoughtfulness and gentleness unlike her aggressive kind and unusually high intelligence. She will be a force to be reckoned with once she grows up, but for now, enjoy an enthusiastic buddy for life.
