Straight to the counter he went, wasting no time with placing his order. Upon spotting the small cakes and other treats on sale behind a glass counter, it was hard to choose only one, but eventually he settled with a Latte to drink paired with a somewhat expensive yet deliciously golden-looking fruit pastry.
Bodaway really was full of surprises.
“Like some kind of cruise?”
Avery really hadn’t taken him to be the leisure cruising type, but perhaps this was a valuable lesson to not automatically jump to conclusions about people based on their initial appearance! Or not…
“I have to agree though; it’s most certainly a learning curve.”
Being a university student while living independently was a lot harder than he’d first imagined! His studies were something the photographer could handle relatively well, but everything elsestill took a bit of adjustment. Laundry? How does that work? Cooking for himself? What a chore.
Such is the life of a young adult who had been spoiled rotten until the day he left home.
“I take it you live alone, too?”
Bodaway mulled over the options quickly and spotted his favorite. He swiftly ordered and Un Déca and a croissant before catching up to Avery. The practical giant was not one for sweets, he thoroughly enjoyed the bitter coffee he came to love while in France.
He looked over curiously as the other was surprised by his sailing days, only to snort and chuckle as the question of a cruise.
“Nah, I wish, it was for work. The ships we used were cargo ships, like Bilanders and Carracks. They weren’t cozy or fancy, but they got us from point a to point b”
He smiled fondly at the thought of his childhood spent on ships. It definitely was an interesting time in his life.
Avery wasn’t kidding about learning curve, there was a lot of events that took place that he had to deal with on his own, compared to when he did have his mother there during similar events. He would try to go to the ring masters but they usually didn’t care. Bodaway primarily raised himself, there were little things that the other carnies would help with, but that too was rare.
Nodding his head simply and casually replied after swallowing a bite of croissant
“Yeah, I’ve been on my own completely for about seven or eight years now”
He was half tempted to bring up leaving home at seven, but h was never one to divulge so much information at once, let alone to a stranger. The kid probably didn’t even care, even if he seemed incredibly nice. He would roll with it and move on.
“How are you adjusting to it?”
If Avery needed help, Bodaway wouldn’t mind lending a hand. The thought of possibly making an actual friend was almost exciting, he wouldn’t get ahead of himself however, he knew better on that one.
