"moya lyubov, are you crying?" ilya looks over, surprised to see tear tracks on shane's freckled cheeks.
shane shoots his patended angry kitten look to his husband in the dark theater. "no."
ilya's heart shatters. "you are crying. malysh, no! is okay! is just movie!"
and brother, you know what they did? they danced.
shane's lip is trembling now, his eyes not leaving hades and persephone as they dance around the stage. "it's just sweet, okay? sue me!"
ilya's lips turn up in a smile. "i'd dance with you, moya lyubov."
shane's smile is watery and he squeezes ilya's hand. "i know. i'd dance with you, too."
shane's quiet in the car on the drive home. "what is wrong?" ilya asks, concern mounting the longer shane is silent.
"i'm afraid i would turn around." shane's voice is quiet. "i wouldn't want to. but i would. because i would need to see you to know we made it."
ilya swallows the emotion stuck in his throat. "oh, shanya. i would too."
shane turns, eyebrows furrowed. "you would?"
"da." ilya nods, smiling to himself as he turns into the driveway. "i spent too long having to not look at you. i couldn't not turn around."
shane frowned. "but then we'd have to do it again."
"and again. i would turn around every time," ilya replied. the engine turns off and the car grows quiet for a moment.
finally, shane speaks. "love means you have to turn around."
ilya nods. "da. luckily, we do not have to turn around."
shane smiles. "not anymore."
and that night, in their living room, they danced.
