This is another image made on the Fuji X-Pro 1 with the 18-55mm lens. I had a brief burst of beautiful light just before the sun dipped below the horizon and it really made the forest glow inside.
This is an in-camera jpeg, just with a slight levels tweak and a touch of high pass sharpening - nothing else. I have yet to process the raw file.
I am now the proud owner of the brand new 23mm f1.4 prime lens for the Fuji (35mm full frame equiv). I am off to Norway in a few days to co-lead an aurora workshop north of the arctic circle so the Fuji is coming with me. I will be testing the new 23mm, as well as the 35mm and the 18-55 up there to see how the Fuji perfumes in extreme cold and also at high ISO in total darkness capturing the aurora. I will have my 5D mk3 kit too and so comparisons between cameras will be interesting.
In no way do I expect the Fuji to be as good as the 5D, but what I am keen to see is how close it gets and then weigh this against the cost of the Fuji kit as opposed to the cost (and weight) of the Canon gear.

This is an image made a couple of days ago using my new (second hand) Fuji X-Pro1 and the 18-55mm lens.
This image is a jpeg straight out of the camera (with just a little light sharpening applied - no other changes made whatsoever)
I have been testing the camera for use as a landscape camera. I bought it primarily as a street, architecture and travel camera but am so impressed with its performance and the quality of the lenses I am now beginning to wonder if I really need to continue lugging my huge DSLR kit around with me when I get images like this from it?
It weighs so little and is so easy to use. The lenses are equal to, if not better, in quality than the Canon 'L' series lenses (and that is saying something!). I hardly know I have the rucksack on my back. I have bought a much lighter travel tripod for it and it is making photography so much more pleasurable.
It has some quirks in the way it works and I am getting used to these and I have found I can buy an adaptor to use my beloved Canon tilt and shift lenses with it. It is gradually seducing me into a lasting relationship with it. Suffice to say, since I got it about four weeks ago I haven't taken a single frame with my Canon 5D mk3....

I took delivery of my new (secondhand) Fuji X Pro 1 yesterday and this is a shot I took with it of my old and rather dusty (and now dusted) Kodak Brownie, the first camera I (like many people) ever owned.
I have only used the Fuji for an hour or so but have set it up to my liking now and am already in love with it. I can see I will be shooting a lot in the mono mode - its beautiful (although shooting in raw means the files come into Lightroom in colour so I shoot in Jpeg + raw and the Jpeg stays in mono).
I will be blogging soon about why I have invested in the Fuji and also on my thoughts as to whether it could end up replacing my DSLR. Now theres a thought. www.dougchinnery.com
