The Himalayan monal is one of the most colorful birds in the world. Native to the Himalayan mountain range, it is the national bird of Nepal and is often called the bird of 9 colors. The male is especially striking, with shimmering feathers that shift between blue, green, purple, and copper depending on the light. Its bright orange tail adds even more contrast in flight.

Himalayan monals live at high elevations, usually between 2,400 and 4,500 meters. They forage on the ground for roots, seeds, insects, and small invertebrates. Despite their bold colors, they are well adapted to rugged alpine terrain and cold climates.
