edmund remembers little of his life before adoption; having been taken in by his fathers very young, life with them is all he has ever known. and he is eternally glad for that fact, considering that he may be the most fitting man alive for the role of the nobley's youngest son.
all his life, edmund has been a charming- if not challenging- child. wit that danced the line with being uncouth was only a further annoyance to parents whose son insisted on delaying himself at any event if not avoiding society entirely. instead, he spent much more time focused on his studies, his friends, or simply enjoying everything london had to offer to boys of his status.
so, as befitting for a boy of his rebellious nature, edmund's fathers pushed the boy into his education; first boarding at eton, then university at oxford.
oxford life suited him surprisingly well; edmund was a natural conversationalist that drew in friends and admirers alike, quick intellect making him a gifted student who may have been beloved by his professors if not for his temper.
after his graduation, his fathers did try to push him into the family hobby of politics, and if he had only been more even tempered and more open to the idea of it all, he may have even excelled in the career. however, edmund was just as rebellious as a young man as he was a child, only now, more able to cover his nature with a few easy words and a flick of the wrist.
to edmund, the idea of taking a seat in parliment felt like allowing himself to be taxidermied; a stiff, unfeeling thing that would turn his life into miserable monotony. so he prolonged it as long as possible, taking a multi-year tour around the continent that his family hoped would mature him.
however, instead of encouraging him to settle, his travels only broadened the horizons of his ideals and made proper society feel more like a constraint. but out of excuses to give his family and having entered a reluctant agreement to enter society for at least a season or two with his parents, his return to london has also, then coincided with an entrance to the marriage mart.
edmund has no real goals for his first season, only to find some sort of balance between the expectations of his family and the ton and his own fancies- whether that means finding a place in parliament, a spouse, or something else entirely, he has yet to decide.
