Posters (a note on asking questions)
It has been 5 days since I put the posters below on campus, and they have been met with mixed perception. I have received a lot of positive feedback about the posters themselves, with many of the subjects friends taking posters for themselves, but I have not gotten anything in terms of increased followers and submissions.
I think that one of the biggest things that the arts and humanities does for me as I am trying to pry, is not only to explore tough human questions, but how to make these questions compelling enough to stir up activity within a community. Many people still believe that my project is interesting and has merit, but it has not riled up enough people to create a response.Â
The question then is what questions to ask. What questions on the subject of identity needs to be answered? what to people want to discuss most? Is there a place for interaction within this, or do they want to be guided through a pre made discussion?Â
These are the questions that are driving my process forward right now. In the meantime, enjoy the posters and submit any of your feelings about the subject on identity you see fit.Â
This is an interview of sociology professor Carolyn Chernoff for the Double Identity Project by Simon Klein for the NY6 Think Tank. It is a discussion of identity. Watch and Respond! Tell me what you think!
James Brownie AKA Jim Jame
We constructed James’ Image after his feelings about his internet use, especially on Facebook. James felt that his use was the best representation of himself, and in a sense a performance. James, or Jim, is consistently well received on Facebook where he garners likes and posts constantly. James talked specifically about his feelings of being more outgoing, and showcasing his humor. To James, his social media use is nothing more than a better version of himself, an extension and a piece of himself. He does not sense that there is a split between himself IRL or on the Internet. We structured his portrait as a comedian speaking to the crowd, as an expansion self and a performance.Â

Note Transcribed:Â
Dear Internet,
Where do I begin? We were introduced in school, but funnyjunk, albinoblacksheep, and homestarrunner are where we really started to hit it off. Our relationship has only grown since then. Today I freaked out because I thought my mom’s birthday was yesterday, Turns out, it is actually next month. But Ill never forget My HBO GO password, or how that password was given to me by some random girl who I went on 2 dates with from OK Cupid.Â
Internet, I just can’t get enough of you. Whether it be Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, Snapchat, reddit, Chess.com, or even Twitter, you endlessly fascinate me. Things got dark in high school when I used you for 4chan... but that’s behind us now. Today, you are me, and I am you. My online presence is an integral part of my identity. I, Like many of my peers, make references to memes and Facebook, posts in real life conversations.Â
You bring out the best and worst in me. My Facebook is my ideal representation of my self: each picture and post is created to show Jim Jame at his best. One day, we will reach the technological singularity, and we will be married forever.Â
Peace out internet, gotta do some stuff IRL...
xoxo

Jasmine
This is Jasmine, a senior from Skidmore College. We constructed her digital identity around her use of social media on both the computer and her phone. The fluidity of these platforms meant that Jasmine checks her accounts every time she logs into a computer, and often on her phone. Sometimes more than 10-15 times a day.Â

Jeff
My first series is of Jeff, a senior from Skidmore College. His social media platforms of choice are Snapchat and Facebook.Â
