this was for myself and my private friend group but anyone is free to read this! also do know that this was all done without any JP (or EN) proofreading so there likely are mistakes, which I apologize for in advance. Linking/quoting/sharing/any of the usual stuff is fine though I do want to emphasize on how the tl quality is likely more on the amateur side!

ALSO I DIDNT TRANSLATE ADASAKURA AS IT IS BUT. It’s basically a metaphor for transient things, akin to how cherry blossoms fall fleetingly. I did put in a translators note in the story but I figured I should put one here as well

Roll out the punishment game! C’mon now, it’s finally time for Kohaku-chan to tell us his secret ♪

Kohaku: A secret, huh… 

T’tell the truth, I ain’t that fond of cherry blossoms. They give off this real eerie vibe to me… 

Rinne: Oioi. To hate cherry blossoms despite being named Oukawa, ain’t there a limit to false advertisement? 

Can’t ya hand over somethin’ else? Like your first lover and whatnot! 

Kohaku: One secret’s more than enough. ‘S not like I’m here to provide entertainment for Rinne-han anyways. 

Crazy:B’s gonna get dissolved the way it is now, so I’m simply followin’ yer orders to disclose more of myself before that can happen. 

HiMERU: Still, it’s rather unexpected. 

For Oukawa to consider cherry blossoms eerie, that is. HiMERU had considered you to be the type of person detached from feelings such as fear. 

Kohaku: That’s what I should be sayin’. Whenever I look at Himeru-han an’ his work as a solo idol, you seem like some flawless superhuman. 

Niki: That’s right. Just from mentions of him, HiMERU seems perfect. 

At first, I thought you were quite the peculiar guy~ But when you started showing off your more human parts, I felt a sense of kinship with you! 

HiMERU: You are just as much of a “peculiar guy” as I am. 

Enough talking about HiMERU already. Oukawa, why is it that you consider yourself unfond of cherry blossoms? 

Rinne: ….Ahh, I thiiink I get it! 

Kohaku-chan, did ya get traumatized from a cherry tree branch stabbin’ ya as a kid? 

My hometown was overflowin’ with nature as I grew up, so I get ya reaal well ♪

Kohaku: As though I’d have a cutesy reason like that. 

The reason I’m no good with cherry blossoms is ‘cause o’ the impact a book I borrowed from my older sister way back then had on me. 

Niki: ….A book? 

Kohaku: Mmhm. It was a fantasy book, but it was just a tad bit scary

It was set in an era where forests of fully bloomed cherry trees were considered somethin’ to be feared —- A bandit lived in a mountain pass where cherry blossoms bloomed. 

One day, that bandit kidnapped a beautiful lady from a town. 

But as that lady taught the bandit ‘bout all kinds of new values an’ the vastness o’ the world, the bandit started listenin’ to everythin’ she says. 

She started orderin’ him to move to the town an’ kill people, to which he complied. 

Eventually, the bandit got tired o’ such deeds an’ moved back to the mountain pass an’ went under the frightenin’ cherry blossom tree, which was in full bloom— 

Havin’ been exposed to the cherry blossoms’ evil, the bandit ended up murderin’ the lady with his own hands. 

Niki: Ehhh…. What’s up with that story, it sounds pretty bad for education…? 

You shouldn’t be letting little children read stuff like that just because they’re bored. Just hearing that story gave me goosebumps! 

Kohaku: Ain’t that right. My sis is a real bothersome one, no? 

Ah well, in its own way, it was pretty interestin’ when I read it, especially with no other entertainment bein’ around. 

But yeah, I’ve thought that way since then. 

There’s somethin’ mystical ‘bout cherry blossoms; a power that can turn people insane. 

That’s why, if I could learn t’overcome cherry blossoms— 

‘Round that time, that bandit might’ve been enticed by the cherry blossoms’ devilish magic, which turned him insane. 

Rinne: Nahh. If there’s any reason for turnin’ insane, it’s gotta be that. 

Kohaku: Hm…? 

Rinne: The bandit must’ve developed some feelings for that gal with unmatched beauty after spending some time with her, right? It’s an emotion that goes far beyond likes, dislikes, and so on. 

I know that feeling real well ♪ It’s what y’all call “love”! 

Kohaku: Love...? 

Yer an imbecile. Who the hell’s gonna become a murderer for love? 

Anyways. Let’s think of what we’re doin’ from now on. 

Crazy:B’s got one chance left to stay alive as unit... Even if we’re bein’ a disruption everywhere, we wanna celebrate our freedom, right? 

There’s still so much o’ the world that’s filled with all kinds o’ interesting things, after all! 

After all it took for me to grasp this freedom, there’s no way I’m lettin’ things end here….♪

I’m pleased that Spring Evening’s Respite concluded as a great success. The social media reception seems fantastic so far, and this will hopefully lead to future connected lives. 

Niki: It’s Kohaku-chan’s well-earned achievement, right? I wasn’t of much use aside from supplying food, but I’m glad I was able to help with the project! 

Kohaku and Madara: …..♪

Niki: ….Ah, looks like Kohaku-chan and the rest are out of the dressing room. I should tell them about the live’s reception right away~! 

Oooi, Kohaku-cha—- 

Rinne: Hold up, not so hasty. Ya gotta get through me before gettin’ to Kohaku ♪

Niki: Ehhhh!? Why do I have to deal with you first!? Shouldn’t we be prioritizing Kohaku-chan since it’s his live project!? 

Rinne: Are your eyes for decoration or something? This ain’t the right time for that. 

C’mon, can ya take a good look at those two right now? 

Niki: ….? 

HiMERU: Look under the cherry tree. It appears that Oukawa has a visitor at the moment. 

Madara: ….、......

Kohaku: …. ♪

HiMERU: Had this been a normal live, we could rush to Oukawa’s side right away to praise his performance. 

But right now, such an occasion should be left to Double Face. Right, Shiina? 

Niki: Ahh, that’s right. Mikejima-kun and Kohaku-chan— We shouldn’t interrupt when those two happily talking together. 

Hinata: Shiina-senpai! Please join us over here ♪

With all of Crazy:B assembled here, there’s plenty of things we could talk about and ideas to share as fellow units~♪

Yuuta: Sigh. There Aniki goes again, mingling with such suspicious people. 

Well, guess it’s fine. It’s best to leave those two from Double Face alone under the cherry blossom tree for now, after all. 

It’ll be quite the problem if they don’t have enough time to talk things out and start fighting again, right? 

Hinata: Ahaha, yep! I’m trying to be considerate of them ♪

Still, I’ve never seen those two have so much fun talking together like this before, looks like they’re hitting it off without a care in the world. 

Really makes you wonder what exactly they’re talking about, right? 

Kohaku: —Hey, Madara-han, there’s somethin’ I gotta ask ya. 

Madara: What’s up? You can ask Mama for anything in the world ☆

Kohaku: Nah, it ain’t that big a deal. I was just wonderin’ why ya think cherry blossoms are pretty. 

Though it’s fair if it’s just ‘cause you think it’s natural to like ‘em. I don’t really get what’s common sense an’ what’s not, after all. 

Madara: My reason for liking cherry blossoms, huh… I don’t have a specific reason for liking them. 

I suppose it’s ever since I went to a cherry blossom festival with my family when I was younger; My impression of them being beautiful must’ve been etched into me ever since. 

Kohaku: Woah… Madara-han an’ his family, huh. 

Madara: Yep. Back then was around the time I was still unaware of my family’s role and circumstances, when I could pass time innocently. 

The festival from back then still resounds in my heart today, and perhaps the cherry blossoms I saw that day were the reason behind why I started participating in festivals from then on. 

Kohaku: So what yer sayin’ is that gazin’ at cherry blossoms as a kid ended up bein’ the origin story for the Festival Guy, huh…? 

…Ain’t that quite the awfully convenient story? Sounds like yer usual bullshit. 

Madara: Whoopsies, did you figure me out? Guess it really did sound way too convenient. I’ll reflect, I’ll repent ♪

…When saying things like that, I feel a liiittle bit more sympathetic for the boy who cried wolf. 

Kohaku-san, tell me more about yourself too. What caused you to hate cherry blossoms? 

Kohaku: That’s ‘cause… 

Sorry, but that’s top secret. 

Madara: A secret…? 

Kohaku: Ya love throwin’ me in a loop all the time, so ain’t it fine to keep a secret just this once? I can’t tell whether yer tale from earlier is a true one or not, y’know. 

I’ll tell you someday. Perhaps on a joyous, celebratory day, like Double Face’s tenth anniversary, yeah? 

—To any normal person, our past must look gloomy beyond imagine. 

Like how cherry blossoms come across as eerie; the true nature o’ their beauty comes from their abundance o’ dead petals. 

The past can’t be changed. Still, it’s just as what Madara-han said. 

Whether the past is a tragedy or a comedy, it’s the us in the present that went through Spring Evening’s Respite. 

I think that’s the kind o’ existence Double Face is. 

Madara: …Whether it’s the front or the underside, it’s the same entity in the end. A shadow follows wherever there is light. 

Is that what you’ve been trying to convey? 

Kohaku: …Yeah. 'S fortunate that Spring Evening’s Respite ended a great success. Surely, after this, Double Face will keep havin’ more work pour in, both good an’ bad ones. 

When that time comes, ya ain’t heartless enough to leave me standin’ on the stage all alone. Right, Madara-han? 

Madara: Of course not. Just like how you’ve tackled your own anxieties, I’ll also start taking on my own cowardly self. 

Even when Double Face collapses, we’ll be together. 

Kohaku: Kokoko, ya finally said it ♪

There's no collars forced on us, so if ya do whatever you want, that’s all fine. I’ve not the slightest intention for yer freedom to be restricted in any way. 

All I ask is for you to stand as my partner ‘till the bitter end.

Madara: Spring Evening’s Respite is doing surpriiiisingly well, huh? 

Our unit started with Marble Cast, and its activities are semi-hidden in more ways than one can count. 

Even Crazy:B with their outlandish schemes perfect for disrupting the atmosphere, and 2wink, who are more adept with acrobatic performances, have both been cooperating just fine for your sake. 

You must be loved greatly, Kohaku-san. 

Kohaku: Not quite, Madara-han. 

Madara: …? Did I get something wrong? 

Kohaku: It’s not just me being loved, but you as well. 

Everyone’s pavin’ a path on stage for Double Face’s sake. 

For the me who’s still so unversed with idols, an’ the you who keeps tryin’ to disband whenever ya get the chance like a pain in the ass, right? 

Madara: …….

I didn’t mean to make any of you do that for me, though. 

Kohaku: Oi, watch yerself. Stop twistin’ every little thing. Not even yer companion here can keep dealin’ with that. 

Takin’ what’s given to you and then ignorin’ it while pretendin' to be detached has gotta be the most uncool thing there is. 

Madara: Haha, you’re not wrooong. 

Just as you say, perhaps people think of me in a favourable way too, huh? 

Being an idol is certainly a unique experience. Just like how cherry blossoms can deter those who find them eerie, their beauty can contrarily save those who witness to it, right? 

It’s quite heavy, this thing called love. 

Once you receive it, it’s difficult to say that you no longer want it. Once a place like this has been created with so much emphasis, it’s impossible to ignore. 

In this story, I had thought myself to be within a tragedy. With all things considered, however, this might be more akin to a comedy.

Kohaku: Ain’t that right. In the end, we’ve pretty much become a comedy. 

To think that the two folks who were properly tryin’ to live on with their lives are now bein’ idols togethers. Couldn’t tell you what fairytale we’re from if ya asked me. 

…Right as I say that, it looks like 2wink’s wrappin’ up their performance. Are ya ready, Madara-han? 

Madara: Yep. It’s about time I stop playing the tragic heroine’s role. 

If I lost the trust and respect of our fans, then calling myself an idol would be nothing but a bad joke. 

Kohaku: Mmhm. That feeling of yours is more than enough for now. 

Hinata: "This was brought to you by 2wink!"

“Next up will be our final performers, Double Face! We’re leaving the grand finale to you guys!”

Yuuta: “Make sure you dash all the way to the end, Kohaku-kun ♪”

Kohaku: “Yep. Thank ya kindly, Hinata-han, Yuuta-han.”

“Everythin’ went by in the blink of an eye, as though we were all in a dream.”

“Double Face’s song will be bringin’ it all to a close, though. Let’s talk a bit ‘bout how I was ponderin’ for my project, and made the decision to go with Spring Evening’s Respite.” 

“My last name’s “Oukawa”, so it's gonna come as a surprise, but I’ve never been a fan o’ cherry blossoms.”

“But ‘cause o’ this project, I’ve been thinkin’ bout it.”

“There were all kinds o’ people supportin’ this project, y’know. An’ so, I wanted this project to be for not just my own values, but for all o’ those friends who encouraged me.” 

“Right, Madara-han?”

Madara: “Me…?”

Kohaku: “Yep. Who else ‘sides you’s there?”

“Don’t tell me ya forgot. When ya were passin’ by and chanced upon the cherry blossoms bein’ broadcast on TV, it was you who called ‘em pretty—”

“That was ‘round the time I was worryin’ over the plans for this live.”

“Durin’ that time, I remembered Madara-han sayin’ they were pretty, so I decided to believe him.” 

“Without any of yer usual troublesome ass, without ya playin’ the role of some supportin’ character— You said that so genuinely, without any pretense. I thought it’d be okay to believe you”

“Thanks to the help o’ all my allies from other units encouragin’ me, this is how the concept o’ “Spring Evening’s Respite” unveiled.” 

“I’d like to take the chance to express my gratitude here. Thank you.” 

Madara: Ahh… So that’s what this was all about. 

All of this was for my sake. 

Kohaku: This ain’t the time for chitchat, Madara-han. 

From here on out, it’s time for us to perform the song we prepared for Spring Evening’s Respite, right? 

“No name yet” — For those of us who may resemble nameless flowers, yet to be dyed in any way, to one day bloom into what we wish to be. 

Kohaku: Whether you're an idol, or a hero, or anythin’ else. Let us bloom into what only we can become.

Mama uses the idiom 合縁奇縁, which directly translates to "a couple strangely but happily united; uncanny relationship formed by a quirk of fate". He says this one pretty often actually!

You’re looking quite pale, are you okay? If you’re not feeling well, shall I lend a shoulder for you to rest on~? 

Ibara: Worry not! I’m just somewhat sleep deprived from all the arrangements for this project. 

Rather, I want to express my gratitude towards Your Majesty— towards the Vice President of NewDi for taking the time to visit! 

Tsumugi: Ahaha, there’s no need to play me up so dramatically. I’m merely here as a colleague checking up on the program’s shape. 

Fufu. The cherry blossoms look gorgeous, so I arrived a bit early for flower viewing ♪

To think that you’ve prepared early-blooming cherry blossom trees for the set is amazing though~ You’ve brought over the soil from that sickly tree that had to be cut down, right? 

Ibara: Indeed. My private army is quite proficient in their skills, so something like this is a forte of ours  ♪

Yet when I opened the office door once more, it was truly a headache to hear about not only four whole units performing, but also them requesting early-blooming cherry blossoms as backdrop! 

It was through designating it as a special episode of Marble Cast that I was able to allocate a budget for it. 

This ended up turning into an extravagant project for which the revenue is estimated to barely break even.

Tsumugi: Ahh, that must be why you’ve been sighing. 

The more work piles up, the higher the hurdle it is for success, huh… It must’ve been a life-saver to have Double Face at your convenience. 

Ibara: CosPro had originally intended on sponsoring this with Crazy:B as the main focus, you know~? Honestly, I feel like giving up on that venomous hive of bees. 

I assumed this would’ve been easy to manage since it’s Oukawa-shi’s, but that was a grave error within my judgement. 

Ah well, it was an upfront investment this time. If Oukawa-shi’s popularity can ignite from this, we can recover the amount lost. 

CosPro will also take care of Double Face’s portion of the box office. 

Tsumugi: Thank you very much. We’re still a newly-developing agency, so we’re truly grateful to have an agency familiar with the know-how’s such as CosPro help us out.

Madara: One seeec, it’ll be a problem if you forget me, you knowww? I have a solo in between CrazyB and 2wink’s performance, after aaaall? 

Hinata: My apologies! The festival-esque Crazy:B and MaM will be in charge of warming up the audience, and then the more technical 2wink will be a bridge to Double face! ♪

Madara: Mmhm. While there will be an intermission in between, Kohaku-san will be participating in two units. The burden might be a bit heavy, but do rely on us when needed and give it your best. 

Kohaku: Of course. If I were the only one gettin’ hyped up, then I’d be losin’ the point o’ this whole project. 

As I am, I want t’shape the people I’m with an’ show them a better myself. That’s my plan. 

It's the same for how one looks at what impression cherry blossoms give, right? 

What I was afraid of, was also what other people found gorgeous. 

Then it ain’t so bad if I were to stand beside these cherry blossoms, dancin’ and singin’ as though I’ve also tricked myself into findin’ ‘em beautiful. 

As I’ve yet to properly learn ‘bout what idols an’ the outside world are like, this much should be good enough. 

If there’s people out there who think like me, perhaps even they can realise its beauty. 

And with that, I wanna express with my body the all sorts of happiness that comes from that realisation.

Anzu-san as well. Even though what happens to me is irrelevant, you made a huge deal out of this by talking to practically everyone about this. 

Kohaku: Ain’t it yer fault for how carelessly ya treated Anzu-han? Reflect just a tiny bit, will ya? 

Hinata: That’s right, Anzu-san's been worried about you all this time. You must talk to her face to face! 

Madara: Whoops. Seems like I’ve thoughtlessly sat on the haystack’s needle. 

Hinata: Ahaha, I don’t think Anzu-san’s wrath would be like that, though~?

Niki (offscreen): Oiii, Hinata-kun! Introductions are fine and dandy but I’d like you to open the door already!

Since the theme for this live is about “who I’m doin’ it with”, I wanted my folks from Crazy:B to help me with comin’ up with ideas too. 

‘Cause of that, I brought over Niki-han, who was brainstormin’ a new recipe an’ happened t’be available, as well as Hinata-han, who I’ve been consultin’ over the project for a while now. 

Madara: I see, so that’s what’s happening. 

My apologies for having you go out of your way to come over in the middle of cooking, Niki-han. 

Niki: No worries! In fact, I’m gonna be killing two birds with one stone by having you guys taste test for me? Knowing this lineup, you guys aren’t going to dine-and-dash like Rinne-kun.

Hinata: Uwaahh, I love sweets! 

I’ve seen sweets like these, what’s the name?

Kohaku: How do I put it, it’s quite the stylish dish.

Now’d be the season for the cherry blossoms to be in full bloom, so other idols will also be making use of such— With things such as the Cherry Blossom Festival in motion, competition will be tough. 

Having to balance between your tour abroad and your personal project must be quite the heavy burden for a newer idol like you. With it being a self-produced live, I’m certain you wish for it to be in perfect condition.

Everythin’ here’s so impressive that I totally fell for it. I’m glad that the playground-esque impression I had o' arcades are still holdin' up.

They’ve placed a variety of gaming machines for after-school and weekend goers. 

There’s a crane machine that has figures from popular series and mascots right outside the entrance, see, so this arcade’s kept an atmosphere that makes it easy for passerbies to enter. 

Alongside those, the building's back has machines such as arcade games and coin games more catered towards gaming enthusiasts, I’d assume.

Anticipatin’ his next move, Ibara-han probably picked a newbie like me as an investment target, or at least that’s what I’m gettin’ from him. 

Madara: Fumu. Putting geniuses like Nagisa-san aside, being capable of self-producing oneself is an inevitable path an idol must take.

Still, I’m a sheltered child who mostly grew up in a zashikirou. Since I’ve been protected by the Oukawa family, who jus’ follows the orders of the main branch, I’ve never made any decisions for myself. 

I’ve no clue what idols are like, an’ I can’t explain my own roots. I’ve no clue what I like, what my interests are, what anythin’ is. 

For someone with circumstances like mine to be plan a whole live? That’s just askin’ for the impossible—

All the performances I’ve been in before were set up by other people. I’ve gotta sinkin’ feelin’ that the audience won’t be satisfied by a live planned by just me alone. 

Hinata: Fumufumu. I have ideas I could write down… at least a few, I think. I’m glad my brain hasn’t stopped thinking completely.

Even I, who started this project, know that it’s far from bein’ finished. If we don’t accept the facts as they are, it’s gonna end with us still idlin’ away.

From the first place, I only started learnin’ more ‘bout idols last year. 

All o’ my idol experience has been with the good ol’ weirdos in Crazy:B, and I barely knew anythin’ ‘bout the other idols I worked with myself.

Not to mention, bein’ able to hype up the audience– I’ve still no idea how stuff like that works.

Ah, there should be. I tend to look an’ accumulate plenty o’ information from the internet, so I’m more or less in the know on what’s popular through that an’ bulletin boards.

What kinda stuff did you search up on the internet? 

Kohaku: I searched up a couple stuff ‘bout the outside world. I only looked at random stuff though, so there’s nothin’ specific I can think of. 

Ya could say I was just satiatin’ my curiosity. I’ve only got shallow knowledge here and there, so I dunno if I can actually use that for my plan. 

Hinata: Hmm~ guess you were just surfing the internet then? 

Some other starting points would be… My bad if it hits a sore spot, but maybe your reason for becoming an idol or how you spend time at home could be some good reference? 

Kohaku: I come from a pretty old-fashioned house hailin’ from a warrior family. My sisters more or less also taught me how to study an’ play Kemari(1).

From the first place, I’d only heard ‘bout idols from Rabu-han— I didn’t really have much interest in it when he first told me. 

So basically, I ain’t really followin’ any trends nor do I have any good quirks. 

Hinata: Ah, it is true that you’ve been rather detached from the real world. 

Could it be that you come from an expensive house like Kanzaki-senpai?

Kohaku: As though somethin’ like that could happen. ‘S not like I’ve got a high social standing. 

Though if we’re speakin’ of traditional arts, then Akatsuki and RhyLink have a real good grasp on cookin’ up traditions, bet they would be able to make a good project instead o’ me. 

Hinata: Nahhh, don’t make things go to waste~? I think Oukawa-kun’s got some really interesting roots too! 

Crazy:B put Shiina-senpai’s chef-esque personality into use in Hot Limit before, and I personally really want to see HiMERU-san’s detective show. 

Perfection can be a crucial aspect, but the person doing it is by far the most important part. For me, I’d love to see Oukawa-kun perform in a Japanese style.

…That must be it! If we can’t think of an idea, how about we both see Yuuta-kun together?

Oukawa in Japanese is 桜河, where the 桜 (ou) also means sakura/cherry blossoms

 From some quick googling "adasakura" seems to be from a buddhist monk’s poem, referring to how cherry blossoms fall very quickly, and is a metaphor for the fleetingness of things.
