      There isn’t a reason behind his actions - there never really is - Teddy merely follows his impulses and grabbing onto the man’s coat was one of them. He gives it a light tug, smiling goofily at him, but not answering.

“  if you’re going to be that stubborn about …  ”          with a sigh of resignation ,     she gives in to his demands     &.     lets what little strength she has left seep out of her as she holds a hand out for him to take .          “  just help me up the stairs ,     i’ll be fine after a little rest .  ”

her anger   ━━━   if it could really be called that ,     when her scolding words came more from a healer’s concern than anything else   ━━━   quickly dissipated into nothing ,     leaving behind nothing but resigned understanding .     how could she find fault when he was fighting to defend another ?     alina’s entire purpose in life was to help those in need ,     vash was only doing the same in the only way he knew how .

but alina was still a healer at heart     &.     she hated seeing anyone hurt ,     whether she knew them well or not .

“  i’m not faulting you for helping her   ━━━   i could never be angry about that .     i just wish you’d be a little more careful     &.     think things through a little before charging in .  ”          she begins collecting the supplies she needed ,     which did indeed include that stuff that burns as he so eloquently put     &.     lays them out upon the table beside him .     she positions herself in front of him     &.     tilts his head up with a gentle nudge beneath his chin .          “     stop whining .     if you can take punches in defense of a woman ,     you can handle a little antiseptic .     now   ━━━   hold still ,     this is going to sting .  ”  

he shifts in the seat, knowing what’s coming from past incidents, though goes still at her touch. in all honesty, this isn’t necessary; the abilities that come from his non-human part would easily allow him to heal all these bruises and scratches, make the scars fade away in ways modern medicine could only hope to achieve. and yet he never does, preferring to bare these scars, these wounds, a reminder of his oath. it helps that this all makes him feel a little more human. a little more connected to those around him. not so alienated.

in a rush because she was on the run, julia smiled thumbing open her cigarette case. she used to have one made of gold, in this new life just sterling silver. she pulled a slim cigarette out, red lips marking the white filter. “i’ve got a couple of pesky reptiles snapping at my heels,” she said, “slow down too long, they might gobble me up.”
