It means a lot to me as a trans poc who follows you to see how many poc literature and learning you used to help shape your understanding of politics. It's been months of white trans folks telling me to read whipping girl, a book by a white woman that has several racist blind spots, and then blocking me if I suggest black literature so it's nice to see someone standing up and actually taking this shit by the reigns.

Taking classes by POC with literature written by POC fundamentally changed my outlook on life and I really would love everyone else to also experience the eye-opening process!!!! I think a lot of queer people online neglect the racial side of politics when it comes to discussions of gender or sexuality and I really think that's a shame considering how closely linked they are. You cannot have a full and complete understanding of sexuality or gender identity/presentation or even larger subjects like class without at least some understanding of the politics of race and where they originate from and how they intersect with those other subjects.

Non-white but especially Black literature is so important to understanding the world around you, especially if its a different perspective than your own. Seek it out, it changed my life for the better and it'll do the same for you!

black literature changed my entire worldview for the better. if you can go to the library or bookstore and pick up a book of political literature written by black theorists you are in for a treat. opened my eyes to so much about the world in a way that revealed deep sadness and grief but so, so much hope as well. I'm a better person for having engaged with black literature.

It leads to so so so much self isolation because the myth of The Only People You can Trust as a TGirl Are Other TGirls gets perpetuated so often by women who have been hurt and see it as an innate truth rather than the product of circumstance

I saw the smoke from this fire a mile away on other people's blogs and sites, but you're honestly 100% correct.

This is not "blaming trans women for our own misery". This is not telling trans women to abandon their safety. It's a tragedy that things are this way.

But we're seeing a LOT of misery in trans communities right now (and, I'm pretty sure, a lot of it is deliberate from the outside), especially from trans women. There are people out there who love and support you.

Remember my post about solidarity between cis women and trans women? Remember the stories that people put there? Stories of friendship, hope, protection, safety, and community.

You're not just "a transwoman". You're a transgender woman. A woman. A trans person. A member of your community, your neighborhood, the environment around you. There are people out there who will love you. You have to find them.

And again, I'm going to restate that I think some of this is being promoted by transphobes and bots. I've seen an uptick in self flagellating misery in trans online communities recently: more talk of "failed transitions", more people convinced that every cis person wants them dead in sight, more suicidal ideation. And each instance of it perpetuates more of it, from actual humans.

I'm not saying that things aren't rough. I'm not saying to not protect yourself. I am saying that more people love you than you know.
