Looking and feeling the part is important when feminizing the academia aesthetic, so here are some tips for curating your own girly, scholarly wardrobe <3
1. An easy way to make any outfit fit pink academia is obiously to buy things in pink! Elle Woods' wardrobe consists of typical 'academic' and professional clothing just with pink fabric, eg. her pink lawyer dress with popped collars.
2. Incorporate elements of the traditional academia aesthetic- add ribbons to your hairstyles, plaid and tweed prints, socks and high heels, cable knit sweaters. Don't be afraid to buy the same 'thing' more than once, like more than one top if it's in the same color, it's always a good idea to have practical options for every day.
3. Buy high quality basics. You don't need to spend thousands for quality, just save your money and skip the shein/aliexpress/etc. Check stitching in store and actually try things on in person to see if it fits correctly and has stretch/feels comfortable. 4. Plan for the occasion- most days will not require a tiny mini skirt or dress, although cute, your schedule is more likely to include bumming it on campus or studying at home. Nice loungewear will serve you more than a Chanel suit. Matching sets (like joggers and a matching sweatshirt) are a cute option for presentable study attire without feeling frumpy. Many stores make loungesets that already match eg. Skims, Lululemon, VS Pink.
5. Pay attention to details. For example lace, sequins, rhinestones, flowers, or velvet could transform an otherwise boring piece of clothing into something girly and pretty! The principle is to basically just take anything and add your own spin to it- buy sweaters, but ones that are fuzzy or with rhinestone buttons.
