Charles is exclusively a bottom. He genuinely doesn't enjoy topping and is basically a pillow princess. Max, meanwhile, is a service top. He has no interest in bottoming and genuinely enjoys taking care of his partner.

The problem is that during their first time together, Charles somehow gets the impression that Max is a bottom, while Max becomes convinced that Charles is a top.

And because they're both hopelessly in love, they each decide to make the sacrifice for the other's sake. The result is that neither of them enjoys their first time together, but neither of them admits it.

Instead, they both pretend it was amazing because they don't want to disappoint or hurt the other. Unfortunately, because they're both faking it, they each come away convinced that the other absolutely loved it that way.

So the misunderstanding continues, for months, they're both deeply unsatisfied with their sex life, but they keep pretending everything is perfect because they think they're making the other happy.

Eventually, after putting it off forever, they both start trying to work up the courage to suggest changing things a little. Not completely, just enough that every now and then they could do what they actually enjoy. After all, Charles thinks Max loves being a bottom, and Max thinks Charles loves being a top.

Finally, Max decides to bring it up. He tries to sound as casual as possible when he asks if they could switch things up one night and Charles does his best not to look too excited when he agrees.

Then the night arrives, and it's easily the best sex either of them has ever had. Not just with each other. Ever.

It's so good that neither of them wants to go back to pretending afterward. this time, Charles works up the courage to be honest.

He admits that it was the best sex of his life and that he actually prefers being a bottom, but he didn't want to be selfish because he knew Max liked it too, and Max immediately interrupt him and admit that he doesn't actually like it at all.

Obviously, Oscar doesn't believe a word of it, but he buys it anyway because he thinks the shop is funny.

He doesn't even plan on drinking it. The liquid just looks like water, so he tosses the small bottle into his backpack and promptly forgets about it.

Until one day after a race, he's hanging out with the other drivers, grabs the bottle without thinking, and drinks from it. The strange taste immediately reminds him of where it came from, and he suddenly remembers the weird little shop.

Even though he doesn't believe the potion is real, he's too curious not to test it. At the time, the group is already discussing relationships between drivers. George is arguing that relationships between drivers could never work, while Lando strongly disagrees, since he and oscar are dating.

So Oscar decides to ask Charles whether he's ever had romantic feelings for another driver, and to everyone's shock, Charles immediately answers yes. and then, without hesitation, admits that he's in love with Max and the room falls completely silent.

Charles is complety horrified, he has no idea why he just said that. Worse, he said it in front of everyone. Especially in front of Max.

And before anyone can react, he gets up and practically runs out of the room.

Max is left equally speechless because:

He definitely wasn't expecting a confession like that.

He's already in a relationship. (Whether it's another driver, a former driver, or an OC doesn't really matter since this is obviously a Lestappen endgame.)

But despite himself, Charles's confession affects him more than he'd like to admit.

Meanwhile, Oscar feels incredibly guilty about the mess he accidentally caused and becomes determined to somehow fix it. His attempts to help end up bringing him and Charles closer together, which helps Max realize his true feelings for Charles when he starts feeling jealous.

And, to make things even worse, Lando completely misinterprets Oscar's sudden closeness with Charles and starts feeling jealous too.

but since only alpha/omega marriages (if they're both males or both females) are legally allowed, Max and the beta pretend the beta is actually an omega. but the problem is that betas can't get pregnant, so Max and the beta, and knowing there would be pressure for them to produce heirs, agreed to tell everyone they were dealing with infertility.

but after about 5 years of being married and without heirs, the pressure from the King and the Council to provide an heir becomes impossible to ignore.

Max, being ethical and in love with his spouse, never wanted to have a concubine, but because of pressure from the council he ends up reaching an agreement with his spouse. They will only have one omega concubine so he can have an heir, but after the omega gets pregnant, Max will never touch them again. and after giving birth, the omega would leave the castle. And, naturally, part of the arrangement was that everyone other than the Council would believe the child belonged to Max and his spouse.

The person who chooses Max’s concubine is one of the most important members of the council. and the chosen concubine is obviously Charles lol

And Max thinks Charles was one of the castle’s concubines, but he’s not. Charles was a political prisoner from another kingdom, and the guy from the council made a deal with him, that if he gave Max an heir, after giving birth, he would be free to return to his kingdom. But he could never tell Max that he wasn’t a concubine, because otherwise Max would never accept it, and then he would never be free. And just thinking about going home, Charles accepts the deal.

They have some stupid argument and Max says ironically “ok, princess”, and notices the way Charles doesn’t argue back anymore and and the way his cheeks turn slightly red. At first Max thinks his silence is anger, and the others might think so, but as Max knows how to read his expressions like a open book, he notices the embarrassment.
