Here is the plan I made in OneNote that I worked from. This was mainly just outlining where I was going before I began drafting in procreate. This was legit 30 minutes, most things stayed and some got changed and that’s alright :3

I don’t actually have many of the initial draft drawings left as I refined them, but this was one I posted so I have it saved. They are all pretty rough but where mainly for working out composition vibes, and also choosing a text font to work with :)

Then I refined all of the drawings to the point where I could colour them! I was losing my mind over the stupid gear, but I reached a point where I knew the design from memory which sped the process up quite a lot.

Then I did the background frames!!! These are probably my proudest frames despite them being like 5 seconds max of the final thing. I never draw backgrounds, especially with them being the focus not a character. But quite a lot of the fun of this was practising skills I don’t enjoy and seeing my improvement :)

Then I coloured and rendered each of the frames, with these being some of my favourites! Honestly the main challenge for these was having to render on alpha lock instead of clipping masks as I HAD NO LAYERS because of the procreate layer cap of 501 for the canvas size lol. I also outlined every piece of text by hand because why make my life easy :D /sarc

Editing took honestly less time than I thought tbh. I had used CapCut for the handful of yt shorts I made from Jan-March, so I sort of knew what I was doing but full length videos were still new to me. Luckily I have watched enough hours of animatics over the last 5 years to work out how I wanted it to look :)

And there we have it, my first animatic! I feel like I should put the ending frames on here as there are a few things I want to cover on here :)

This was all caused by Legundo’s tweet after this stream (Day 19). He has since talked about how Varian is a good portion of inspiration for his character and as I have (somehow) never seen tangled the series I would never have thought of this without that.

This is like my first big project that I actually completed, and 21.5 hours of work is insane to me considering I usually finish every drawing I do in less than 2 hours

Backstory:

so she would be from the Capital, and be a daughter of two parents in the army of the summer kingdom. She would be in her late-40s and would remember Ashfall, as her parents were deployed when it happened and she had to deal with everything going on alone. She would have joined the army as well and been deployed a couple of times, and would be very faithful to her cause and VERY indoctrinated. She would then spend a period of time I captivity in the storm kingdom (I haven’t thought this bit through yet), and would see how everything she was told was wrong, and how they were indoctrinated to hate the summer kingdom. She would eventually return, and would be moved to focussing on training new recruits as she didn’t want to fight for a cause she didn’t fully believe in anymore (and she was senior enough to be given the option). Fast forward a bit and the Queen would want to deploy her again and she chooses to retire instead, explaining her feelings to the Queen. Time skip again where she lives as a citizen, then gets letter directly from the Queen asking for her to become a dragon rider as someone she knew would be capable. She says yes and here we are.

My main thoughts for characters she would fit with were: Juniper + tf!Legs as a trio, both of them knowing Juniper’s secret and sharing lots of info between them. Graecie, with all the indoctrination stuff. Pyro, as he would see her as a powerful ally and she would see him as volatile and someone who should be watched.

(I only main tf!Legs so idk for other characters but she would generally be a well of information that she doesn’t want to give as a lot of it was gained through traumatising experiences)
