i wasn’t really expecting this to get as much response as it did on twitter but it seemed like people found it helpful so!! here you go! some friends were asking about perspective so i drew up something real simplified on the basics of how i usually set up my perspective/bgs !!

here’s an old patreon reward to fill in the drawing-hiatus void a bit; something I get asked about a lot is the ‘acting’ in my comics and how to be subtle with conveying emotions. The answer is mostly experience and constantly observing people in real life to learn about expressions, but knowing when to ‘dial up’ or ‘dial down’ emotion is very important! context is king- this is basically the same advice that Carl Barks gave on one of his reference sheets here (in a much more succinct manner!):
I live my artistic life by this

Commissions from both Emerald City Comic Con and Katsucon this year!! Thank you so much, everyone! (I get so excited anyone asks me to draw sweet Yuzu~ )
Because I’ve been getting a few inquiries: digital commissions are closed for now, and traditional ink commissions are only being taken at conventions at the moment. If you’d like to reserve a commission slot for Anime Boston, feel free to email me!
Anatomy tip weekly! :)
This week I’ve prepared something for people who sometimes are confused how to start drawing. Instead of starting with head, start with torso.
I guess most problems can be solved while designing torso. Every body part needs to follow torso.
“We cut a trough into the set, and we put a piece of rigging that goes under the set and into the mother’s stomach. It’s a little creepy, I know. But it allows us to slide her along the surface of the sand, and every time she reaches out and claws into the sand, that’s all a plasticine or clay surface that we have to carve into and move a frame at a time. We’d have little bits of sand that were flying up in the air, so we take these little bits of foam or clay, we put them on bug pins or wires or little bits of fishing line, and we have those elevated and move them a frame at a time to make it look like it’s bursting out of the ground.” - Travis Knight
literally impecable. Im losing my mind
And it all happens so naturally that you never question how it could happen
I’ve never seen the piece of media this is from, but I’m blown away. Even beyond that bit of technical wonder, just how expressive the doll is. The anguish and pain shows so clearly, without being almost comical. A lot of stop animation (even ones I love!) rely so heavily on sound to make the scenes emotionally charged.
this is from Kubo and the Two Strings and the whole film is this stunning
Kubo and the Two Strings is a criminally underrated masterpiece, the uncontested best animated film of 2016 and probably the decade, and is available on Netflix. Please do yourself a favor and watch this movie it is so beautiful and so, so good. You are guaranteed to cry. Everything about this movie was perfect. This is a ten star movie on a four star scale.
PLEASE WATCH KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS.
Warning: this movie will make you cry. Like a lot.
Kubo and the two strings is actually incredible and deserves so much more attention

Studio Ghibli’s animation software will be made available via open source this month.
That’s right…💯% free.

This is a BIG DEAL, folks.
Animation software is, by and large, very expensive and out of the range of most people seeking to get into animation. As of March 26th, this software will become open source and available to all prospective animators!
Spread the word!

“I remember a picture left on a desk, a snapshot of a time that has never been.” I wish there was an alternate universe where the four of them could live their lives together. Luke was still alive, Thalia was never turned into a pine tree and they would just hang out together like lighthearted young adults enjoying their friendship.
It’s been a while since I last posted something PJO related but summer has come and I feel like I’m gonna spend it re-reading Riordan’s books.
