“And a lot more where that came from, trust me,” he said, chuckling slightly.  “What was with the patronus spell anyways?”

“Just something I’ve never been able to do.  Pisses me off to no end.  It’s some kind of pansy ass spell that creates some weirdo light creature from your wand or whatever to ward off dementors.  Bullshit really, but I’ll be damned of I’ll let it defeat me.”

“And sometimes, the smartest thing you can do is recognize your limits. Not everyone can do everything.”

“Believe me, I’m certainly learning a thing or two about limits recently.”  She sighs exasperatedly.  “Well thanks anyway, I guess.  I won’t give up though, Lydia fucking Sawyer never gives up.”

“I’m not sure how brilliant it’ll be. You obviously know how the spell works, at this point it’s more just a matter of finding the right memory. Unfortunately there’s no real method to that. It’s mostly just trial and error, trying different happy memories until you find one powerful enough for the spell. Which, from the look of things, is what you’re already doing.”

“Well fuck, I thought you’d tell me some profound shit that would suddenly just make everything crystal clear.  What good are you then?”

“So this is practically like if you had something lame.”

“Yeah I guess, but it’s the principle of the thing.  I don’t like being defeated.  Makes me angry.”

“Exactly.”

“Fuck.  Now I know I have to perform it somehow.  Come on, give me some more brilliant advice!”

She knew that attitude well, she’d had the same one when she’d first started working on her own patronus. “So, tell me about one, maybe the one you’re using just isn’t the right one.”

“No offense doll face, but I don’t just go spouting my personal memories and shit to just anyone.  Trust me, it’s a happy memory.”

“Oh is a dolphin what you were hoping for? Me, I go in for dragons. Much more impressive.”

“At this point I don’t even give a fuck what it is.  Though if it was something lame, I’d probably never perform it.”

“Right,” Denahi gave a small nod. “I’m sure your patronus will be equally as impressive when you are able to conjure it.”

“yeah, like maybe a fucking wolverine or something.  Or a god damn tazmanian devil!  Good thinking.”

“I’m not going to look in your head to tell you one way or the other.”

“Well thanks a fucking lot anyway.  I’m just going to resign myself to never have one of those fucking light dolphins or whatever.”

“Actually I’ve only managed to produce a fully corporeal patronus a few times before. And even then I couldn’t hold them for more than a minute. But, to answer your questions, mine’s a wolf.”

“A wolf?  That’s fucking cool at least.  Think I’d rather not be able to do one than to get some shitty lame animal like a pygmy puff or some shit, right?  At least wolves can rip someone’s throat out!”

“Practice makes perfect, as far as I know. Keep trying.”

She doesn’t reply, instead just glares at him intently.

“You’re a vampire? That’s fucking cool.” He commented. “But I don’t think that’s it, you’re probably not thinking happy enough.” 

“Yeah, I guess it’s alright.”  She shook her head “I have thousands, millions, trillions of happy memories!”

He shrugged. “I’ve done one once, but that wasn’t in an actual situation where I needed to. So, it’s probably not a vampire thing. Is the memory truly a happy one?”

 “As far as I fucking know?  Is there some goddamn trick to this?  I’m fucking so done with trying.”

“Yeah? Alright, lady. Gotta say i’m a fan of anyone who speaks my language.”

“Afraid I can’t turn into a husky, though. I dunno if that’s a deal breaker or not.”

“It takes a lot to deal break with me, honeybuns.  Besides, if I was only friends with people who could turn into animals, I’d be stuck with the stank ass werewolves of the school.”

Charlotte chuckled, and cast a small patronus, her cat making it’s way toward the other female before dissolving. “If only a happy memories were easy to come by, but alas they’re often few and far between.”

“My mind is fucking full of happy memories, this is bullshit.”  She scowled at the cat and then sighed.

“Yeah, some Russian gangster turned me. It was fucking crazy, but worth it.” He caught her scent as well; dust and decay. “I guess I can do that. As long as you’re not the type the hang in the trees with the bats. ‘Cause that’s a deal breaker.”

“No deal then, bats are my best fucking friends.”  She said in a sarcastic tone, before continuing.  “You know what?  I like you.  You got sass.”

“Ah but it requires happy memories of sufficient strength. I’m guessing that’s the part you’re struggling with.”

“That has to be bullshit, I have happy memories every fucking day of my life.  Look at my god damn happy shining sunny face, how could I not have a happy memory?”
