You could have one person who provides intellectual growth, stimulation, and compatibility. Someone you talk to every day about topics you’re interested in, someone you learn new things from. That’s your main relationship person, the one you live with, cook with, it helps if they are an amazing cook, and come home to.

But maybe they don’t provide emotional depth, a soulmate-level connection, or emotional intimacy. That could be another person. Someone you travel with, explore the world with, do crazy things with, go on adventures with, have romantic sex with, go on fancy dates with, and take fancy vacations with because the first person isn’t really into that stuff, or is potentially asexual, or has their own person for that kind of thing, or doesn’t like traveling for whatever reason. And that’s okay.

And then there’s another person you just have sex with sometimes because it’s amazing and they’re basically a professional at that.

And then another person for kink and BDSM-type stuff who will go further than the others.

And then another two or three people you do spontaneous stuff with at work because it’s fun and convenient, and there’s always someone to have lunch with or do cool, fun things with at work.

And then there are spontaneous random flings with people you meet from time to time. Maybe they alternate into the second-person category for a while, or even replace them. I don’t know.

But they all know about each other. They all know the deal. They know you like it this way and want to keep it this way, and they all have their own stuff going on too, so they don’t mind either. There’s no hierarchy in those relationships, and anyone can opt out at any time. There’s no evil intent, maliciousness, jealousy, or competition. It’s all out in the open. Everyone is on board with the arrangement. You’re honest, you never lie to any of them, and you try to clear up any confusion.

Maybe there’s even a group chat or something. I don’t know. Everyone’s on board, and there is never any pressure, manipulation, or lying. And they don’t lie to their partners about it either. As long as nothing is being hidden, and no one is being gaslit, lied to, tricked, or manipulated into anything.

The only thing to fear and eradicate here are STDs.

But don’t cheat, hurt people, get married under false pretenses, or lie to someone. That’s awful.
