Siobhan barely held back a sigh when she heard it was two weeks. Did she even know that S would be paying off any damage caused? Looking to Beth now, she realized that even if she was aware that she wouldn't care. Hearing the door open, she looked to see the principal standing at his door. Standing up, she looked expectantly to Beth and waited for her to move before she did towards the door.

Siobhan had a lot to say to Beth about her behavior, but knew it would be better to wait until they got home. Sitting down beside her, she looked towards the young girl before straight ahead as if she was waiting for the principal to come in. "Did they say how long you will be out of school for?"
In the back of her mind, Siobhan had made a mental note that things seemed to be getting better with Beth. She still came home complaining about her day, but that seemed to be the habit of most teenagers.
It was a few weeks later and she had just shut off the vacuum when she realized the phone was ringing. Setting down the vacuum hose, she went to go pick up. Something told her it was the school, but she didn't think it would be as bad as it was. Apparently Beth had become angry with one of her teachers and knocked down a book shelf. As if that wasn't bad enough, she had injured someone in the process. This was certainly going to be a trip to the school. Arriving twenty minutes later, she walked to the office where she saw Beth sat.
The smile remained there when Beth brushed off the fact that she had done so well on her tests. It didn't take her long to have the sandwiches ready and she soon set them both down on the table. "You can pick something from the fridge to drink. Wasn't sure what you would want."
S was glad she had her back turned to Beth as a knowing smile turned her lips upwards. Of course she would sulk dramatically now. Grabbing two plates from the cupboard she set about making them both a sandwich. "Yeah? That's great. I didn't know you were interested in French." There was still a lot she didn't know about her.

Siobhan couldn’t help the incredulous laugh that sounded from her at the rumors that were supposedly being spread. “I wouldn’t trust anything they say.” That much should be clear given how they had gotten into a fight with Beth. Nodding slightly, she moved the towel away from her cheek. “You’re going to stay until we find the right home for you.” She couldn’t tell if that was reassuring to the young girl.
“It’s hard not to trust them when everybody says it and I have no real way of telling,” Beth muttered and touched her cheek, running her fingers along the gash. “Okay,” she said quietly, clearly thinking about something else. “You can’t send me to school tomorrow, they will just laugh at me for this,” she said in a pleading tone, hoping that S would be easy to break at this point.
An eyebrow raised when Beth pleaded with her not to send her to school tomorrow. "You've just started at this school." It was her version of saying 'no'. Standing up from her hunched over position, she set the towel down on the counter. "Did you want something to eat?" She wouldn't even continue to entertain the idea of letting her stay home tomorrow.

“Surely there has to be cameras outside.” Grabbing an old (but clean) tea towel, she let it run under warm water before ringing it out and bringing it to Beth. She didn’t know whether the young girl would want her to clean her cheek herself or would rather S do it.
“But are they gonna bother check it? If the rich kids get hurt and the foster kid gets caught, then who are they gonna believe,” Beth said bluntly, her face turning into a frown. Looking at the wet towel and S, she then just nodded her head, telling her to go on. “They said you weren’t a real mum and you’d get rid of me,” she said in a quiet voice. “Like you did with the other kids.”
Siobhan took it as a good sign that Beth was no longer flinching and shying away from her if she came close. Gently dabbing at the cut, she made sure she wasn't hurting her. She paused as she had begun to lift the towel, hurt by the words the other children had said to Beth. "Chicken," she said softly, using that term of endearment for the first time since Beth had come to her, "I never get rid of anyone who comes through my door needing help. They only leave me if they've found a suitable home."

Siobhan winced for the young girl when she heard she had gotten the gash from falling face first on to a rock. “Did they also get detention?” She realized as she spoke that she felt protectiveness swelling inside of her. A ‘tsk’ sounded from her as she, without touching Beth, guided her over to the kitchen so she could clean her cheek.
“No. Because they caught me when two guys were trying to pull me off the top of big one. No one asked me what happened,” Beth said, feeling like S was more on her siide now. She walked reluctantly to the kitchen and sat down on the chair, watching her every move intently.

An eyebrow raised when she wished they had broke their arm. Some times not verbally responding was better. Especially when it came to Beth. She turned slowly on the spot, arms crossed now as she watched her remove the gauze. S hadn’t been sure what could have been under the gauze but the sight of the gash had her moving closer to the young girl. She stopped only about a foot away, arms by her sides and not touching the girl. “We should get that cleaned up. This wasn’t the first time she had seen someone with injuries from a fight. It was, however, the first time she saw an 11 year old girl with them.
Hearing about the cleaning, there was a brief flash of fear in beth’’s eyes, however, nobody was touching her yet so she relaxed again, touching it and looking at the blood. “Wasn’t the nurse supposed to take care of that?” she tried to get out of it the clever way, but still feeling that she has already been defeated. She let her arms by her side and dropped the gauze on the ittle table, turning towards S.”Yeah, while we were in the middle of it, they pushed me to the ground and I fell on a rock face first,” Beth confessed, sighing because it was a stupid way to get injured.

A look of disappointment fell over her features, but it just as quickly vanished so Beth wouldn’t see it. “They don’t know what they’re talking about.” She knew the young girl probably beloved what the other students had said. “But that attitude?” She gestured to the hint of a smile. “That will make sure you’re back in detention again.”
Beth coudln’t help with a little eyeroll. “What’s that stupid detention even good for. And why me. They’re the ones who started mocking me,” she said grumpily. “I didn’t make a mistake to learn from,” she said, looking at S challengingly. Then, her face slumped again. “At least if they broke my arm, then I wouldn’t have to go there tomorrow,” she got up and went to the mirror and with a quick motion, she removed the gauze from a cheek, exposing a gashing, bleeding wound in her cheek. “This is shit,” she sighed, looking at it.

Reading it over, she couldn’t help but click her tongue. “Says here you need to report to morning detention tomorrow.” Her arm with the letter dropped down to her side. “I want to hear your side of things.”
Beth shrugged her shoulders lightly hearing about the detention. She already heard about it anyway as the teacher yelled at her. “I’m the new weird foster kid,” she said, giving S a look and then shifting on the couch. “They said I would be gone soon anyway and then mocked me. One kid pushed me, so…I pushed them back. And-” the corner of her mouth twitched just a bit. “I got caught at the wrong time,” she said, playing with her scraped knuckles. Then, she looked at S for reaction.

Well, at least it wasn’t an excuse. Although this wasn’t much better. Staring at the shoes and bag on the floor, she finally turned around. “You don’t have a choice.” It was spoken firmly but not out of anger. Finally, a sigh fell from her lips. “What happened?” She just now noticed the note and held her hand out, just expecting Beth to give it to her without protest.
Beth let out a little puff when S said that she had no choice. She knew that without her. The point was that she just really didn’t want to go. She looked back at her when she asked what happened and then into her lap where the letter rested, all crumpled up and gave it to her. “I don’t know. Whatever it says, I guess? I take it you’ll rather believe the teachers than whatever I say,” Beth said, slouching down in the seat, still touching her nose to see if it kept bleeding.

Yet, deep down she knew that wasn’t the case. The knock on the door made her perk up from the book she was reading. Setting it down, she went to answer the door. Holding in a frustrated sigh, she stepped aside so Beth could come in. However, her eyes never strayed from the injuries on the young girls face. She knew she didn’t have to say a word, knew Beth was dreading whatever it was she might say. Maybe the silence meant she would speak up first. Most likely with a poor excuse as to why she had already got into a fight with someone.
Beth just gave S a quick look, sniffing just a bit since she could still feel the blood up her nose and then without a word stepped on the heels of her shoes to take them off and let her school bag slide off her shoulder into a corner and mad her way towards the couch in the living room. “I’m not going tomorrow,” she said quietly, but resolutely. She sat down, crossing her arms and legs and wiping some of the residual blood up her nose into the back of her hand.

First day of school has left Beth in a terrible mood and state. Mrs. S lived just across the road, but she dragged along as much as she could before she would get to her house. Her school bag was slouched across her shoulder, a letter from the teacher in her hand, reporting of bad behaviour. It was obvious she got in a fight by the temporary cotton pad covering a gash on her cheek and a crusty nose from a rather recent nosebleed. She didn’t mean to get in trouble right on the first day, but her anger was uncontrollable. As Beth arrived to the house, she took a few moments and then knocked on the door.
