Honda NSX-R Prototype, 2002. The NA2 series NSX-R used weight reduction to improve performance with Carbon Fibre bodywork, deletion of the audio system, power steering and air-con. Additionally Recaro carbon-kevlar racing seats and larger/lighter alloy wheels were fitted making a total 100kg weight loss. The 3.2 litre V6 was hand-built and although Honda claimed it was no more more powerful that a standard NSX with 290hp there was speculation that the true output of the engine was higher.

Daihatsu Midget II R Type, 1997, by Aiba Works. A tuned version of Daihatsu's retro-style kei truck. The mid-mounted 3 cylinder engine produced 30hp in the original version, it's unclear how much more Aiba Works version made

Modulo Honda S2000 "20th Anniversary," 2020. Despite having been out of production for over a decade, in 2020 Honda's accessories division produced a range of exterior and interior upgrades to celebrate to 20th anniversary of the S2000.

Porsche 914/8, 1969. Built at the instigation of Ferdinand Piëch and fitted with a racing-spec 908 Flat-8 engine, which produced a 350hp. Two prototypes were built, the second car (with an engine detuned to 300hp) was given to Ferry Porsche for his 60th birthday (b&w pic)

Nissan Silvia spec-R, 1999. The S15 series Silvia was Nissan's last compact rear wheel drive coupé. It was sold internationally as the 200SX. Production of the Silvia with Nissan's program to reduce its myriad of platforms. Producing of Nissan's S platform ended  in August 2002, with the S15-series Silvia being the final variant.
