Inside BADI Magazine - 4th Anniversary Artist Messages
BADI celebrated its 4th anniversary in January 1998. The magazine had reached a few milestones, one being the publication of a short story anthology, "Son in the Forest" by regular contributor Koji Nishino. Nishino's artist, Jin Keisato, contributed new illustrations.
The magazine also included a feature article on certain artists that appeared in BADI's issues thus far. These artists included mangaka Susumu Hirosegawa, Keiichi Takasaki, Mario Kamijo and Gengoroh Tagame, as well as artists like Heitaroh, Jonathan, and Robert Young.
I have briefly translated some of the comments from artists I enjoy, all of whom wished the magazine well. One can really get the sense of how Badi and other magazines helped illustrators treat their work seriously!
Mario Kamijo (上条毬男) - Congratulations on the 4th anniversary of the publication... every night before I go to bed, pray to Shinjuku and I hope you continue to make great strides in the future!
Echigoya Tatsunoshin (越後屋辰之進)- Its entirely to BADI that I exist! Thank you to Badi for picking me when I was starting as an artist.
Gengoroh Tagame (田亀 源五郎) - Thank you for allowing me to do whatever I wanted to do over the past 4 years. I hope you continue to support me.
Keiichi Takasaki (垣原達也) - It's been a year since I made my debut as an artist at BADI. Thank you for the colored paper you gave me as a talisman!
Raizou Taira (平良雷蔵) - I draw manga as if I write a letter, and I end up getting quite talkative. I hope I can convey my feelings with this.
Heitaroh (平井太朗) - Time simply doesn't pass for me, since I have not been in a relationship for the last four years. Congratulations Badi, I hope to continue drawing for you in the future.
