Heroes and Villains - Rythor
Rythor Hordmar, son of Trinity and Diero Hordmar, an unsung hero of the final push against Elrin during the Fourth Cleansing. Only one soul in the entire world of Unum knew of his sacrifice, yet his heroism floats in the center of the flying city of Heaven’s Eye.
Name: Rythor Locke Hordmar.
Status: True Polymorphed into a Sword of Sealing
Current Location: In the grip of Ragoth and the stomach of Elrin, sealed within a crystal in the center of Heaven’s Eye.
Descendants: None
Appearance (Before True Polymorph): Rythor was a slender, yet toned half-elf. He stood about 6′ 3″. He had blonde, shaggy hair that covered the tips of his ears. His ears were of elven descent, about 3 inches in length and pointed backwards so that his ears appeared almost flat against his head. He wore a white, hooded tunic. The hood was always up to hide his elven descent, as the Hordmar lineage had become tainted as his father wedded an elf. Across his chest was an iron breastplate of very simplistic design. Stories of battles and injuries are told across the cracks and dents of that breastplate. He wore brown padded leather pants to maintain mobility when needed. Simple brown leather boots to match. On his hands he wore what appeared to be simple leather gloves, yet had iron fingertip plates and a small diamond inserted in the center of the back of the hand. He has a brown leather belt with 3 small satchels hung to his left side, and a waterskin hung on his right. Strapped to his back is an iron longsword in a simple brown sheathe. The blade itself is a pitch black, with the guard and pommel a magnificent gold. The hilt is wrapped with a brown leather. Strapped to his lower back is what appears to be a normal crossbow with a large gap where the bolt would sit. After descending to the hells through The Split, Rythor lost his right arm.
Notable Possessions:
Bloodthirst: His longsword, he can sacrifice some of his lifeforce to feed the being within the blade increasing the blades potential power.
Gloves of Timestop: Given to him by his comrade Tyrun, when the gloves connect with the wearer saying “Stop” it will cast a powerful Time Stop spell.
Ordeus Arms Repeating Crossbow Prototype: Created by Aaron Ordeus, it is a repeating crossbow capable of shooting 6 bolts from a clip in a very fast fashion,
His Story:
Born from the elf Trinity Hordmar and the human Diero Hordmar in Cycle 732, he was gifted with the agility of an elf, but not the lifespan. By cycle 754 it was made clear that he was ageing faster than that of an elf, but slower than a human. He became friends with one of the old heroes, Evenduur and his apprentice, Tyrun as they investigated the imprisonment of their good friend, Nazaru.
Tyrun and Rythor became close friends, each helped each other. During one of their endeavors into a lost tomb of a scholar, Rythor came across Bloodthirst, but at first had no clue about the being within the blade. From the moment he held the blade he fell in love. It wasn’t until cycle 765 that he realized the properties of the blade.
Backed against the walls of the cave, Tyrun and Rythor were out of options while face to face Bulette. The blade spoke to him, offering to help him for just a taste of his blood. All he needed to do was speak the command word “Thirst.” Rythor did, and struck the beast down in a single blow. Tyrun had realized the physical harm the blade did to his friend, Rythor cared not.
Cycle 768 his father, Diero, passed away due to old age. Feeling broken from the loss of her loved one, Trinity had asked the golden dragon, Aldius, to end her life. Her life was ended. Rythor, who was next to sit at the throne, refused to take the throne. He was ashamed, appalled at his mother’s actions. He fled, Voric, keeping only contact with Tyrun. His younger brother, Farin, took the throne instead.
Cycle 782, Tyrun had enrolled in the studies of the arcane within the “Archive of the Past,” a massive library of all knowledge within Voric. Rythor returned to Voric under a disguise and a hood. He returned to the level of a meer citizen in his family’s respected kingdom. Rythor began training his agility and power with his mentor, Aaron Ordeus. With the help of Aaron, he was able to master not only melee combat, but ranged as well. Helping Aaron perfect his weaponry, Aaron returned the favor with supplying Rythor with prototypes.
Training for Rythor continued. Cycle 805 had come, and Tyrun had announced the death of his master, Evenduur. Tyrun’s magical power had become as grand as Evenduur’s, and he fused one of the worlds strongest spells known into gloves, and given them to Rythor.
Cycle 810. While on a mission to New Highold, the town of Watermill suddenly became under attack by devils. Rythor arrived too late, the city was already lost. He assisted covering adventurers as they assisted civilians out of the city. Though they were not strong, they put their bodies on the line for the civilians, especially the monk named Von, who he became fond of.
Then, The Split happened. Tiamat rose, as did legions of devils all with the intent to slaughter life and cleanse Unum. While adventurers fought battles across the globe, Rythor has learned that his friend, Aaron, had turned heel and began fighting for the Queen of Dragons herself.
In a confrontation on the edge of The Split, Rythor battled Aaron, exchanging banter as they both aimed for each other’s death. Aaron proved victorious, the power of a god’s blessing outmatched Rythor. Rythor was pushed into The Split, and into the levels of Hell.
He woke chained to a wall. Aaron holding a blood red orb, laughing. Without question, Aaron pressed the orb against Rythor’s right arm. It cracked and split, with blood red light shining through the cracks. Aaron mocked him, saying the blessing of Tiamat will soon take over his body. Aaron, assuming Rythor would soon be on their side, released his shackles and returned his possessions, leaving him to deal with Adventurers who were captured.
Rythor, knowing he had to do something before the corruption took over his body, grabbed his sword, pressed it against his bicep, and sliced clean through his arm. He screamed in agony, as his cracked, deformed arm lay in front of him. After ripping the right sleeve of his tunic off and tied it around his stump to stop the blood flow, he proceeded to sneak his way out of hell, and through a breaching portal.
He arrived around the Obsidian Tower, Tiamat’s palace. Tyrun had found him, and caught him up to speed. Channeling some of his magical power to give Rythor a temporary arm, they moved to the Obsidian Tower where a final assault against Tiamat was taking place.
Once they held the western side of the tower, they held their ground as the adventurers had a final battle against Tiamat. They killed her champions, and destroyed her physical form. Yet, there was hardly any time to celebrate. One of Tiamat’s champion’s, Elrin, had gained the power of Tiamat, Bahamut, and other gods and powerful beings. Elrin learned of a Tarrasque being held captive in the center of Heaven’s Eye. Elrin longed to release it.
They boarded an airship. Tyrun spoke of a magical blade that could be the key to defeating Elrin, the Sword of Sealing. It was their only hope, however, the sword has been long missing and there was no time to search for it. Tyrun retreated to his cabin.
Rythor looked over the ship’s railing at the sun setting. A Tarrasque could pose as big of a threat as Tiamat could, Elrin even more so. He thought back to his father, to his mother. With one final glance at the sun before it descended below the horizon, he entered Tyrun’s cabin.
The only hope was to turn someone who was willing and powerful into the Sword of Sealing using True Polymorph. Tyrun was familiar with the sword to the extent that he could turn Rythor into it. He reluctantly agreed. They spent the night remembering their adventures, their struggles, everything that had kept them together for this long.
As the city of Heaven’s Eye broke into view as the sun rose, Tyrun revealed that Aldius did not kill his mother. It was his master, Evenduur. Aldius could not bring himself to do it, so Evenduur polymorphed himself into Aldius in order to do it. Much like how Tyrun’s master killed Trinity, Tyrun was now ending Trinity’s son’s journey.
With hesitation, Tyrun transformed Rythor into the Sword of Sealing, the tool that sealed away Elrin’s horrible power, preventing the release of the Terrasque. The sword now sits in the crystal with Ragoth and Elrin, no one knowing of the sacrifice made by Rythor.
