My favourite horrible man.
Sin Magic | Spells feeding off your worst impulses
PDFs of this and more can be found over on at my Patreon here! I release everything for free, so your support makes this possible. I've also started making a new system based off of 5e, 6th Dawn! Become a patron and join the playtest.
Of course I would have to leverage sin in a magical way. I am not making them fundamental forces of magic like pathfinder wants to for some reason, just spells used for sinful purposes. Though, I could argue that almost the entire school of enchantment is sinful
Blood Money
This one is admittedly named after and largely modeled after a pathfinder spell. But what's a little blood magic between friends?
Bleeding Heart
This one was cut from Emotional Damage, but it certainly fits this theme a bit. Since it forces an obsession onto the target
Borrowed Vigor
This one was based on the idea of alcohol borrowing tomorrow's happiness from you. But for coffee. I thought it would be fun to play with exhaustion a bit here. Though, this does give me ideas for the haste spell.
Crushing Despair
Another entry from the emotional damage spells. Maybe not sin, but it's very mean.
Frenzied Zeal
Using my frenzied condition again, thought it would be fun to give an ally a considerable buff, but at a cost. It follows a similar structure as borrowed vigor in that regard.
Heart's Desire
Greed is a common sin, why not leverage it. Golden apples of discord anyone?
Mask Motives
A useful spell, a bit like disguise self for lying. But it's not perfect. You can't see through it without truesight, but if you're savvy enough, you can see that a spell is at work. Which can also tell you a lot.
Water to Wine
Debauchery is also frequently a sin, now this might technically be blasphemy but I don't think wine is innately less sinful than other alcohols.
And now to plug my stuff. I release homebrews weekly over on my Patreon. Anyone who pledges $2 or more per post don't have to wait a month to see them, and also help fund my being alive habit.
At the moment, they have exclusive access to the following:
Demonic Corruption Origin
Lost Draconians
Spiteful Spells
Spirits of Vengeance Patron
I also have four classes, and two splatbooks over on DriveThruRPG to check out:
The Rift Binder. A class specialising in summoning monsters and controlling the battlefield.
The Witch Knight. A class that combines swords and sorcery in the most literal way.
The Werebeast. A class that turns you into a half beast to destroy your foes.
The Beguiler. A spellcaster dedicated to illusions, enchantments, and general fuckery.
d'Artagnan's Adventurer Almanac. A compendium of races, subclasses, feats, spells, monsters and more!
d'Artagnan's Lycanthrope Survival Guide. A book of lore, stats, and werebeast subclasses for lycanthropes.
Mirrorform
6th-level Transmutation
Casting Time:Â 1 Hour Range:Â 15ft (see text) Components:Â V,S,M (A silver mirror worth at least 200gp (Shattered in the process) Duration:Â 24 hours (see text) Classes:Â Wizard, Sorcerer
Description:Â You place mirror in a way that's reflecting the item or creature you want the mirror to mimic. If the target leaves the view of the mirror or the mirror becomes damaged in any way while casting the spell it simply fizzles out.
After you finish casting this spell the mirror shatters, leaving a Mirrorform mimic in it's place. This Mirrorform mimic has already taken shape of whatever item the mirror was focused on.
For the next 24 hours, The creature is an ally to you and your companions. In combat, the creature shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It obeys your verbal commands (no action required by you). If you don’t issue any, it take the Dodge action and uses its move to avoid danger.
The creature is under your control for 24 hours, after which it stops obeying any command you’ve given it. To maintain control of the creature for another 24 hours, you must cast this spell on the creature before the current 24-hour period ends. This use of the spell reasserts your control over up to three creatures you have created with this spell rather than creating a new ones.
If the mirrorform is copying an item rather than a creature then it will make no attempt to leave or transform out of the item's form for the duration of the spell. This again can be extended by recasting the spell. once the spell ends it may transform or leave by it's own will.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot: You may cast this spell using a higher level spellslot and another silver mirror worth at least 200gp for each higher level spellslot. Each mirror must be focused on the same item or creature and the same rules apply. If this spell is cast using a 9th level spellslot, you may use any number of mirrors to make that many mirrorform mimics.

I had someone ask me if I could just port Helldivers to D&D 5e instead of making a TTRPG inspired by Helldivers & Kaiju No 8 and like
I could have been mad and say something like "Please play another system for the love of God"
But instead I said "Helldivers would just be rangers with extra spells" and I got the nastiest fucking look as they went through all of the stages of grief trying to fight it
Favored foes, weapon proficiency, works well in any terrain, spells (stratagems), extra attacks, healing spells (stims), avoiding exhaustion (99% of people can't run a 5k in 30 minutes while carrying what must be +100lbs of gear).
D&D boss token!! Base art by @turtlemobile, animated effects by me!
"Hit Points represent durability and the will to live. Creatures with more Hit Points are more difficult to kill."
Quoted from the 2024 Free Ruleset, actually a really good explanation of Hit Points; it's not that dudes with lots of hit points somehow have more blood in their bodies, it's that they're gonna put up way more of a fight before they go down.
That also explains shit like Temp HP, which isn't like... Extra life points, it's you feeling emboldened to continue fighting a little longer. Same with stuff like Relentless Endurance, it's not that you magically get healed one hit point for no reason, it's that you are SO DETERMINED TO NOT DIE that you can't be taken to 0 that easily.
Feels less like a videogame mechanic and more like a thematic element of a story, which I am 100% here for
