It's my (belated) 3 year anniversary on Tumblr 🥳
now that I’ve come to think about it, child neglect/absent parents is a surprisingly consistent theme (idea?) across pretty much most, if not, all the Crazy Park games. yet none of the games really take the time out to address it afaik?
Brodi and Hantao sketches from this month
imo the most annoying part about drawing Lavi and/or Leo is that not only do they not have enough high-quality photos to use as art references (most photos of both their renewal & pre-renewal designs are either in-game screenshots or somewhat obscured official art), but if you're someone like me who prefers their pre-renewal designs, than you also have to filter the search results of both characters before a certain date since photos of their renewal designs are the first results that come up and you won't see any pictures of them in their pre-renewal designs

i don't think it's feasible for me to get into making music atm since i'm already juggling schoolwork and drawing AND language learning; however, i do, at the very least, want to gain some basic music theory knowledge so i can properly describe the differences between the older and newer music in the Crazy Park games to myself and others.
to be more exact, I want to get better at explaining the music evolution (...or devolution for me lol) in the Kartrider games (sans KRRP since almost all of the tracks in that game are just reused from OGKR) since out of the 3 "mainline" Crazy Park titles, imo, the Asteria composed tracks in the KR games specifically have a completely different feel to them in contrast to the ones composed by previous studios like Studio EIM.
a collection of all the Super Bomberman games (that even includes the Japan Exclusive ones such as the 4th and 5th entries) was shadow-dropped digitally yesterday. meanwhile, it's been about 6 months since it was announced, and there's still 0 actual news on Kartrider: Classic beyond "it's coming.... Soon™" :|
quick Erini drawing I did of her in her win pose; I've always imagined the Northeunians having a mix of human(oid) and reptilian anatomy if the Crazy Park characters were drawn with more standard proportions. timelapse below
Uni with da *brings up Google* Saber Shotgun S-1. you don't know much I wanted to draw literally anything else while working on this, but I knew it'd be better if I just stuck with 1 drawing instead of starting a million new drawings and spreading myself thin in the process. this is also my first time drawing a hard-surface object such as a gun outside of practice sketches, and I actually think I did a decent-ish job?
I should really read those 2 Kartrider Korean Civilization comics that I brought for my birthday now that I feel a wee-bit comfortable with my Korean reading skills... like, I still need to constantly look up words as I read, especially if they're more abstract or have lots of meanings, but I've gotten to a point where I can read material like event pages from the games and more or less understand the general meaning being conveyed in them

so a little while ago last night I noticed that Kephi's old Korean Crazy Arcade site bio states that he's courageous enough to stand up for his parents...
but his parents are never actually seen like the rest of the Boomhill Friends' parents (minus TwoTop if you count a more than a decade-old localization fuckery), nor are they even mentioned in any of the mainline crazy park games? the new bio for Kephi on the Kor. CA site doesn't mention anything about his parents and instead opts for some slightly different wording.
the bio still doesn't make much sense since Kephi's portrayed as cowardly 99% of the time in and outside of the Crazy Arcade and it's tie-in media, and he never really demonstrates any acts of bravery/courage, notable or not, but i figured the bit about his parents was omitted out considering it made less sense to allude to characters that have practically 0 presence in AND out of game
i've been trying to dial back on being "unconstructively" negative on this blog recently, plus what i'm complaining about is barely crazy park related anyways, but wow that new tieba baidu ui looks awful 🤢
it appears to have been rolled back since I made this post, but i'm not exaggerating when I said it looked awful lol. maybe the ui revamp came off as drastic to me since it's been years since the site's been redesigned, but not only was everything uber round, but all the placements of the buttons were changed too. oversimplified ui design is the bane of my existence

damn i really want to draw Bono in his penguin disguise from the new scenario mode story, but i also have to finish not 1, but 2 pieces for Christmas (which is only 4 days away) and i don't want to get sidetracked by smaller pieces/projects and risk rushing my art on the same day as Christmas just to get something done for the holidays... drawing characters (not saying which to keep it a surprise) that I don't necessarily dislike but I don't think about nor draw much, if, at all is way less therapeutic than drawing a character that I have an emotional attachment to, but I pretty much have to since the only Christmas art idea in mind that seams feasible enough for me entails drawing those characters that aren't as enticing

Luxury Kephi sprite, on the right is him in his Kartrider and onwards purple. I like how the greens/purples came out, but the rest of the colors are too weak, especially his hair
I do think it's entirely possible for Kartrider (and all the Crazy Park games in general) to be more beginner friendly without watering down their underlying game mechanics, it's just that the devs need to put a bit more effort into explaining how the game works to newbie players so they won't instantly get frustrated
KRRP had a very succinct tutorial/"beginner-friendly" guiding system when it first launched, and even though it wasn't perfect, I think it did a good job at demonstrating and explaining the basics of the game to newbies. meanwhile, OGKR's license tests were too basic and item-centric; and while KRD's license tests were just a smidge above complexity and adopts the "on-screen Drift guide" system from KRRP, the player is never shown how to use these drift types in actual gameplay and which tracks you should use them on. imo (and speaking from experience), it's near impossible to reach 1st-3rd, or even 4th place in Speed with only the info taught in the games' tutorials/license tests unless you're playing modes where there's less emphasis on drifting like Infinite Speed
now I don't completely fault the devs for overlooking how a new player would approach Speed Mode, all the entries in the Crazy Park series, including Kartrider, are casual games after all. in fact, I'm pretty sure some older OGKR devs have stated in interviews that they never intended on Speed Mode to be the game's signature mode (which is why most of OGKR's earlier updates were centered around Item Mode) and were surprised by how competitive a majority of the game's player base turned out to be. however, I think it's problematic if you have to consult outside material such as YouTube videos in order to properly enjoy such a significant part of the game
