According to GosuAI, there is at least one cheater in 12% of our games.

The GosuAI algorithm is based on machine learning and currently isn’t able to detect all kind of cheats. They analyzed approximately 200k matches played by about 1 million unique players, and learned to spot cheaters who use zoomout, autostop of creeps, and items auto drop.

To detect cheating we extracted mouse movements and all the actions player perform on a map from replays. To analyse player behavior we aggregate several statistics like the distance between the mouse position on a screen and the place where the player’s real action was registered. Then we use machine learning technique called anomaly detection: the algorithm learns from a sample of “pure” matches (manually checked by our Dota 2 experts for the absence of cheating) and then able to detect “suspicious” deviations from the norm.”

Camera hack. The most popular cheat, used in 12.24% of the matches. With it the player can look quickly at distant places on the map, gaining a vision awareness advantage. Note that the hack won't detect ultra-wide monitor users as cheaters.

Automatic creep blocking. Only 0.1% of the player base uses it. A perfect creep blocking at the start of the match can give you an enormous boost, particularly in the mid lane.

As an auto-attacker, you need things to obtain or enhance your AoE harm: Battle Fury and Maelstrom will be the obvious choices. The Mjollnir's active capability is helpful if put on a hero that PL will be made to attack, for example Axe because of his taunt.

Radiance along with Shiva's guard are dependable options for AoE magical damage. The former prices constant damage (to spot the illusions) and causes the competitors to miss 17% of their strikes. The latter is helpful for your burst hurt, the movement and attack rate slow air, and also the extra armor to limit PL's harm.

Heaven's Halberd along with Silver Edge block the spawn of much more illusions, and also place an undispellable debuff on the hero, which helps to identify him during the struggle.

I love the Crimson Guard because the 60 damage cube is absurdly good against illusion-based heroes. Via the busy"Guard", you can extend the benefit to all allies during a teamfight for 12 seconds.

Phantom Lancer relies upon his army of campaigning for survivability. He is able to create them at an insane speed, so single-target strikes are pointless: you have to work out who's the real hero, and then destroy him before he could reset the battle with Doppelganger.

There are a few abilities that discount illusions and target automatically the actual PL, including Zeus and Spectre's greatest, Bloodseeker's Rupture, along with Skywrath's Concussive Shot. The number is limited, and you can't simply rely on them to defeat him.

Countering Phantom Lancer requires to spot the actual hero, possess sufficient AoE damage to manage the illusionsand kill him before he can reset the fight.

In the current meta, Phantom Lancer is a standard 1 hero at competitive, and also a powerful opponent in any respect ranks. He isn't successful only against newbies: his select pace spikes to 16% in the highest area of the matchmaking, while keeping an impressive 55% win rate.

Valve began working together with him just recently. By 7.16 Doppelganger can no longer be cast while suspended, which is a huge debuff against heroes with this particular crowd control effect, but still not enough to restrict his dominance from pub and pro gaming.

PL is a strong hero even without his illusions. He enjoys good stats, a great deal of agility and armor (29 + 2.8 gain), a sluggish which functions also as a nuke in the early/mid game, a tool to engage the target (Ghost Rush), along with an escape (Doppelganger).
