"Science education of the past has not helped prepare citizens for the life they will live. It has focused entirely upon preparing people for careers they will not follow." (Robert E. Yager, 1983, cited in Jenkins, F. (1990) Unifying the goals of science education. Edmonton, AB: Alberta Education.)
- Another entry in the file of quotes that could be contemporary. That science education is constantly trying to escape some past where students were ill served by the goals of science education is an almost never ending trope. Every time you go to look for that past, though, you find that people at that time were saying earnest things about improving the situation for students and saying the same derisive things about some period of time that they considered "the past".
