Sometimes you have to settle for less than what you want for a while in order to get what you really want later.
Like buying a house.
I wish we were baller status and that Sean didn’t have to pay $700 in student loans every month for the next 9 years! :P
So we are going to have to settle on what we want in a home for a while. We definitely need to find a bigger place within a year. I want to start a family and have pets soon. So we’re going to look at older homes . The nice thing about older houses is that yards are big and already fenced in, you generally have your mailbox in front of your house and the buildings aren’t so close together.
We were originally looking at new construction homes for several reasons - warranty, we would have a say on customizing floor plans, wouldn’t have to worry about renovations, no one else lived there before us (obviously), etc.
So far we’ve discussed some things that we MUST have - Master bathroom with two sinks, have a garage, single family, walk in closet in the master bedroom, at least 1,500 square feet, good sized driveway and yard, south side Anchorage, at least 3 bedrooms, and at least 2 bathrooms.
We did find our dream brand new construction home that fit all of our old requirements (at least 2,300 square feet, single family, huge master suite and bathroom, south side Anchorage, 3 car garage, 4+ bedrooms, 2.5 baths, kitchen/living room downstairs, laundry room upstairs, etc.)… And it valued at $600,000. YIKES!
Our budget right now is around $350,000.
Cheers to our home buying adventure!
Omg, I randomly saw this post on my Tumblr. I wish I could see the date I wrote this within the Tumble app. So crazy! Glad Sean decided to take out part of his retirement savings to pay all of his student loans off when he switched careers.
