Olivia’s Disney Experience Part 1: Pre Program
Hi everyone!
My name is Olivia (or @livster-the-schmuck) and I’m an alumni from Fall 2013 to Spring 2014. I’m also going to be returning as a CP in Fall 2016.
I found out about the Disney College Program when I was hanging out with a friend from Miami in the summer before my Sophomore year in college. Earlier that week my step grandmother and I drove to Orlando to go to Downtown Disney and ride the rides at Universal. When I told my friend this she started to tell me her experiences. Excited I looked into the program and decided that this was a thing I wanted to do before I graduated (since you just needed to be in college when applying).
Unfortunately (and kind of fortunately) I had to apply sooner than I thought. I found out that I could no longer afford to attend SVA so I decided to apply for the college program during my last semester there. I applied, did the web based interview, and proceeded to schedule my phone interview two weeks in advance. During that time I studied incredibly hard and watched advice videos on the phone interview. The day finally came and I was (like anyone) incredibly nervous. Before the interview I was listening to Disney songs such as Almost There, Hakuna Matata, and my personal favorite, Go the Distance. The call finally came and I remained calm for the most part. I did stumble at the end going “Thank you, and uh thank you!” to which the recruiter replied “Right”. After the call I braced for the infamous 2-3 weeks of waiting.......or so I thought. I got accepted three days later for Main Entrance Operations in the middle of a GIM for LARP while I was visiting my best friend in Binghamton. I freaked out and had to go outside to control myself. I couldn’t believe how quickly I got accepted. A socially awkward schmuck from New York.
I planned accordingly after the acceptance and decided to put my arrival date in for August 12th 2013. From there, I joined my arrival date’s facebook group and quickly made friends with other girls that shared my interests. I also put my roommate survey on my Tumblr and was discovered by one of the closest friends I made in the program (who I still talk to regularly this day). We all decided that the six of us should room together in Chatham Square.
My mom and I booked our flight and hotel at the Avanti Resort. We booked the flight a few days before my arrival date so we could go to a few parks before moving in. My sister also joined us two days afterwards so we could all go to Universal. One of my roommates also stayed with us the night before so we could move in together. I should mention that when I left my home in Long Island (which was my home since birth) it would be the last time I would ever see it since it was being sold in October. So not only was this the beginning of my program but it was also the real beginning of my venture into adulthood......
So I tried to log into my Disney account and I was told my account was locked. Can you tell me how to unlock my and why my account is locked?
You should try emailing them and letting them know. They should be able to send you a link to reset your password!
Disney College Program FAQ/Alumni Blog!
Hey everyone! I recently completed my program at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida as an Attractions cast member and because I have a few months before I go back to school, I decided I’d make an Alumni blog.
Here we—other alumni and I—will be answering your questions about the college program and the Walt Disney Company as well as providing personal experiences to help you decide if this program is right for you! In addition to this, we will try to keep you informed with important dates and events.
Because we like to hear about you, you can also submit your own Disney Journey and we will share it on our blog for the rest of the world to see.
This blog will not only provide you with useful information so you can jumpstart your Disney Career, you can also simply enjoy various pictures, videos, and creations to satisfy your Disney needs!
As this is a brand new blog, we will be needing many new members. If you’re interested in joining this team, click here and we’d love for you to join us!
