❛ are you comfortable? ❜ he asks, his tone is flat, wary of the concern that dares to lace it. numerous times, he had offered to have one of the chembarons make him something that might be more mobile, but kaz had refused. his reasoning kept to himself and silco didn’t press. with him a simple no sufficed. ❛ give yourself a break if it’s pestering you. ❜ he crosses one leg over the other and leans back. ❛ your leg ❜ he points with his cigar, smoke spilling from his lips. ❛ i mean. ❜ he leans his head back releasing the rest of the smoke. ❛ they wont do away with the monsters anytime soon — and if we’re lucky enough, we wont have to keep them around much longer. ❜ the undercity was free from enforcers yet silco had gained hate and scorn from the people. he would accept it, he would become what they hated if it kept the enforcers away. ❛ maybe… they’ll report back to our jailers. let them know that we will not sit silent in their oppression. perhaps, they will start to see us as more than tools. but the nation we were always meant to be. ❜ foolish thinking. it sounded like a fairytale leaving his lips and left a bitter taste upon his tongue. he would use force to make them see. to make them all see.

the smile is returned with the slight curve of only half of his mouth, ❛ they’ve had enough fun with their leash… they should know they can’t keep a dog tied up forever—sooner or later it finds a way to bite free. ❜ his hand moved idly to his leg. he felt the dull ache once more. he’d been on it longer than usual and his body was reminding him why that was a bad thing. silco noticed. he always did. ❛ comfortable? well this couch sags more than i like, but it’s comfortable enough so that i don’t get too cozy here. ❜ he had meant to dodge the question, but silco did not let it slid by, ❛ —it’s fine. it won’t hold me back—you know this. ❜ he’d never admit to how much he enjoyed knowing that silco cared. he wondered at times if he held back too much. he’d worry for nothing. silco wouldn’t follow along a string that led to something dead… he knew how kaz felt. there’s still a dead heart beating inside this broken body. would you want that? ❛ feels like something is changing already if you’re saying that aloud. ❜ kaz brought his eyes back to silco, lingering on his face for just a moment, ❛ and here i was about to ask you for a drink. ❜

silco lights up his cigar like one would a candle to pay homage to the dead— it was routine, almost ritual. kaz can’t seem to peel his gaze away, nor does he want to. watching as the cigar slips past the other mans lips, his breath hitching before he spoke, ❛ you know i don’t smoke. ❜ it was said in a matter a fact way, his cane making a soft thud each time he took a step towards the sofa. he lowered himself down gentle with support of his cane and did not lean into the cushions. kaz’s eyes narrow and his brows raise in regards to the first question— sarcasm usually coated his words, ❛ do you even have to ask? it’s me after all. i get the jobs done without complaints or problems. ❜ he pulled his cane in closer between his legs, his hand resting on the crows head and right below where the wood started, ❛ though i hear enforcers want to do something about your little monsters… they aren’t too happy with not being invited to the party. ❜ kaz steals a gaze once more measuring it for a reaction. ❛ people are always unhappy when they don’t make the guest list. ❜
