Went to the grocery store with my kindergartener. We weighed some bananas: 2 pounds even. We weighed a watermelon: 4 pounds even. We weighed some mangos: a little over 1 pound. We weighed the watermelon AND the bananas: 6 pounds even.

Man I had someone judging meeee because they were like ew why does rune factory/harvest moon/story of seasons have at least one pair of bachelors or bachelorettes that are basically children (they are usually the youngest pair of bachelors) and! I was like. Well to be fair. Children are playing this game. Those are probably options meant for them. Cue the obnoxious side eye. They were like no I dont think so.

Like.... but is that not true? These were games we were playing as kids. I might have chosen Hiro in tale of two towns as a kid but now he doesnt feel like an option to me, ive outgrown him. He's too childlike. Also this really feels super selfish. Kids cant have fucking anything anymore. Is story of seasons only for adult eyes now, because you cant stand the idea that a ten year old wants to marry Kiel in RF4 or something? Like, these are options so that everyone can get a candidate that appeals to them. You are not obligated to marry the candidate designed for the younger spectrum of the audience. And a 10 year old is not obligated to marry the character with a full grown beard because they are 10 and probably not into that kind of thing yet. We need a range of age appropriate candidates for everyone.

Its really sick and twisted that adults have commodified certain spaces and things all to themselves to the point that children cant have anything anymore. Like maybe youd be hard pressed to introduce this series to a younger person at this point because the fanbase and audience are so adult centered now. It makes me feel sad.

This is a series I really loved as a kid. I want kids to enjoy it too. Imagine if the only marriage candidates in wonderful life were gustafa and the bar guy, just super mature options. It would suck if you were ten and wanted to experience the game romance but only wanted to marry someone closer to your maturity level. I get that Kiel and Amber in RF4 are uncomfortable options if you're like, 30, but when I played it I was like 14 and thought kiel was cute (though I was obsessed with Vishnal). Today I would rather have Arthur, so I would say your age often determines your taste. Its optional, too, so theyre not forcing you. Like I said its an option so everyone can be included. Not everything has to cater to you. Seriously. Grow a spine about it.
