I really hecked this one up

I’ve tried to ignore them and give them the benefit of the doubt but they suck on multiple fronts.

Reaction videos require no effort. “Yes they do!” no, fuck you, they don’t, especially if you wanna speak relatively compared to what they typically react to. A fucking LET’S PLAY requires more effort to produce. Reaction videos are done because they’re fucking cheap–a 3 minute video takes 3 minutes to record. A 3 minute animation? Maybe 3 weeks, give or take a few months.

Many are questionably walking the line of fair use–many try to have the original content take up most of the screen, don’t edit the original content or cut it up to showcase just their reactions, there have even been some cases where they turn down their own volume so you can hear the original.

Not to mention many reaction videos are just fucking stupid to begin with, with someone never uttering a single word and just staring vapidly at a screen, but hey, that’s just my opinion. If you like that trash more power to you I guess?

But the real kicker in all this? We have reached the point where more of the related videos on ACTUAL content are now reactions to said content, instead of new, similar content. Reactionists at this point are starting to stifle content on Youtube. This is the exact same shit that was cancer with the reply girls on Youtube years back.

Videos on Youtube rely heavily on relation and suggestion. This mass influx of reaction videos is starting to knock actually relevant videos out of relevancy. It used to not be as bad before, when this wasn’t a fad, but it’s starting to get immensely troubling and is already having adverse affects.

These are the first 11 videos you see in the related vids on a 1080p monitor (they were moved downwards by an ad but either way you usually only see the first block)

Recommended videos and mixes/playlists aren’t based on the original content, so we won’t bother with them. I have 2 recommended videos otherwise. So, 2/1 are user influenced and don’t matter too much. I’ve crossed them out with blue.

With the RELATED videos however, there are 4/11 ‘extended/subtitled’ versions (two TOTALLY redundant functions on Youtube, since there’s captions that can be community submitted, and you can just enable looping by right clicking a video twice) and 3/11 ‘reaction’ videos. I have them circled in red.

How many videos are actually relevant to the original content?

2. 1 is a song by Mystery Skulls (probably not uploaded by them), and the other is ACTUALLY A RELATED ANIMATION AND CONTENT SOMEONE HAS CREATED.

Of these first 9 videos:

7/11 videos are just leeching off the original without adding anything new.

2/11 videos we can ignore cause they’re user-side.

Only 1 is actually relevant to the original content and is something new.
