Casey Novak x fem!reader
Warnings: mega angst, grief/mourning, loss of a relative, lots of talks of death and the after effects. Fluff from Casey. very minor gang related threats/worries
Four days passed until the police finally let you out of the lockdown in the stuffy hotel room. Theyâd had no luck finding Jensen, but there hadnât been any chatter on the airways, and he hadnât popped up looking for you or Casey to seek further revenge. Knowing that you both had lives to get back to, they deemed it safe as long as you had a protective detail on you at all times. You and Casey split briefly while she stopped back at her apartment to pick up enough clothes to last the foreseeable future and anything she might need for work while you headed into the firm to collect everything you needed. Everything youâd left in the courtroom that day Rafael had so kindly dropped off for you, as well as calling your parents to tell them the news, you simply couldnât bear to do it and you knew they needed to know before Ritaâs murder was front page news. They were just as devastated as you were, even more so that they werenât allowed to see you while you were in lockdown, and now that you were out, you were dodging their calls, not wanting to deal with it quite yet.
Casey ended up taking longer than you, having multiple stops to make, but youâd given her your spare key to let herself in when she got back to your apartment. She expected to find you in bed, or curled up on the couch, instead when the door swung open you were sat at the kitchen island, a literal mountain of paperwork and files in front of you as you stared at it with teary eyes. She dropped the couple of bags she had with her at the entrance and moved into the room, wrapping a gentle arm around you.
âHeyâŠâ she greeted softly, kissing at your temple, âyou okay?â
âIâm exhausted.â You admitted, dropping your head against her shoulder.
âWhy donât we go take a nap? This can wait, right? If you want me to call another one of your partners to go through it I will.â
âIâm trying to find her willâŠâ your chest heaved as you said the words and Casey held you tighter to her.
âI feel like this can definitely wait baby.â
âCaseâŠ.you donât get it.â You pulled away, tears brimming in your eyes, âthereâs so much to go through. And Iâm gonna have to sit down with my parents and completely re do their wills too. Iâm the baby of the family, Iâve got power of attorney for everyone.â You sighed heavily, your hands sifting through a few more files you hadnât checked through yet, âI thought I grabbed everything from her officeâŠâ
âYou donât need to worry about the other work stuff right now.â She stroked at your hair softly, âremember, they put a hold on all open cases with a Calhoun name attached.â
âItâs not just the open cases.â You glanced up at her again, âwith RitaâŠgoneâŠI become the senior partner.â Your eyes welled with tears, praying that another round of crying wasnât about to start, âit was her firm. Suddenly my case load is doubled, my client list is doubled, Iâm responsible for making sure cases go to the right places.â
âItâs a lot to process over a short period of time.â She kissed your temple lightly, âletâs focus on one thing at a time, okay? Whatâs the most important?â
âThe will.â You sighed out, dropping the most recent file youâd picked up. âShe probably didnât keep it at work, Iâll have to go through her home office. Oh god.â You groaned, your head dropping onto the island, âher groceries got delivered two days ago, Iâve gotta clean out her fridge.â You pushed up from the island, scooping up your keys and a reusable shopping bag.
âDo you want me to do that?â Casey asked gently and you shook your head.
âItâs fine, Iâll just grab the perishables. Thank you though.â You kissed her cheek quickly, âIâll be right back.â
Casey was hesitant to not follow you out into the hall, wanting to make sure you were okay with going into Ritaâs apartment, but she heard the door swing shut a moment later. Returning to the island her hands shifted through a few of the files you had yet to get to. She did her best to not actually read them, considering some of them were labelled with names of cases she was prosecuting. She ended up getting distracted with the task, reorganizing all of them into the order that she knew you liked. There were a few random odds and ends, but it looked like you were right in not having grabbed the will. She glanced up as she finished, the clock on the stove staring back at her and she realized youâd been gone for well over thirty minutes.
Sighing softly, she picked up her key, making sure your apartment was locked properly before she padded over to Ritaâs, pushing the door open gently. She wasnât surprised to find it a similar layout to yours, but somehow more lavish. The bag of food from the fridge sat on the island but you were nowhere near it, she heard a small sniffle from down the hallway and followed it to find you curled up in Ritaâs bed.
âBaby?â She asked softly, lingering in the doorway to not invade your space.
âFound it.â You murmured through your tears, gesturing to a file folder at the foot of the bed. Clutched in your arms was what she assumed mustâve been one of Ritaâs childhood stuffed animals. âShe left me everything.â
âShe loved you. Probably more than anyone else in the world.â
âI feel like half my soul is missingâŠâ a small cry escaped your lips, âit was always âthe Calhoun girlsâ, âThe Calhoun sistersâ, everyone knew we came as a packaged deal. NowâŠitâs just meâŠwhat good is half of a pair? Nobody wants that.â
âI do.â Casey finally stepped into the room, moving to perch on the edge of the bed, her hand softly wiping away your tears. âYou are everything I need, and you are just as worthy and legendary as she was, even more than the pair of you were.â
âYou know that scene in Lilo and Stitch, when he leaves with the book, he sees the little duck family and manages to choke out a âlostâ?â
âYeahâŠâ
âThatâs exactly what this feels likeâŠIâm lost and brokenâŠand Ritaâs the one who always put me back together. But now sheâsâŠ.sheâs deadâŠâ finally saying it out loud broke you far more than you ever thought it could, a loud sob shuddering through your body as your arms tightened around the bear. Caseyâs heart clenched at the sight of you going through so much grief, pulling you as much into her lap as she could, her hands soothing at your back. âAnd I donât know what Iâm supposed to do anymore.â
âYou grieve.â She stated after a few moments, ducking to leave a featherlight kiss on your forehead. âAnd you remember all the good times. All the messes you got into as kids, how she helped you through college, you think about all the adventures that the two of you went on. And eventually, the memories will be enough to get you through. Thereâll be bad days sure, but her memory will always be your favourite, and one that youâll certainly never forget.â
âYouâre really good at that.â You murmured, looking up at her and she smiled.
âWell my parentâs couldnât exactly afford a yacht every time I was sad.â
She knew the tease might not have been the right direction to go, but you laughed in response, a real (although teary) laugh, for the first time in four days. She realized it was the first time since the morning of the shooting that sheâd even seen you smile, a sight she didnât even realize sheâd been missing extremely. While there was still a light in your eyes that was completely extinguished, she knew it was a step in the right direction. It would certainly take a long time for you to get through this, but you were strong, and resilient, and she knew you could handle anything, even if in that moment you felt like the world was completely crushing you to smithereens.
âI know it doesnât feel like it right now, but youâre going to be okay. I promise.â Caseyâs thumb stroked at your cheek and you smiled meekly up at her.
âYou gonna nurse me back to health?â
âIâm going to do as much or as little as you want. Whenever you need me, Iâll be there, and I really do mean whenever. I donât care if itâs the middle of the night or the middle of an opening argument, you need me there, and Iâll be by your side.â
âThank you.â You turned your head in her lap, kissing at her palm gently, âI love you.â
âI love you too.â Leaning down she kissed the tip of your nose, âyou said Rita would put you back togetherâŠtell me what to do to help.â Sighing, you pushed up to sitting, âwhat do you like for step one?â
âIce cream.â You shifted out of the bed, still holding the stuffed bear. Casey scooped up the will, noticing the way you neatly made the bed, much unlike how youâd always leave your own in a tangle of blankets each morning.
âI can run down to the bodega?â
âThereâs bound to be an unopened tub in the freezer.â
âYou sure?â
âYeah.â You laughed softly, âRita always kept one on hand whenever I started seeing someone newâŠ.in case it didnât work out. SheâŠâ you playfully rolled your eyes as you slid your arm into Caseyâs, moving through the hallway, âshe said if it didnât work out with you sheâd find me a sugar baby to spoil.â
âOh my godâŠâ Casey nearly howled with laughter, happy to see a smile on your cheeks again. She picked up the bag of groceries and sure enough, you found a few containers of Ben and Jerryâs in the freezer before you locked up her apartment and headed back to your own.
Casey was glad youâd chosen to Netflix from bed that night, you were out less than half an hour later, still clutching onto Ritaâs stuffed bear. Her hand softly stroked at your hair while you slept, she was glad to see you finally seeming like you would get a good nightâs sleep. The bags under your eyes had gotten worse with every night at the hotel, puffy and red from the near constant crying. She hoped the comforts of being back in your own home would help move the process along a little faster, knowing that this was quite possibly the most painful thing youâd had to go through in your life.
On day five, your parents came over for lunch, and Casey was truly able to see first hand just what you meant when you said Calhounâs didnât talk about feelings. There was enough food for a week, a few bottles of expensive wine and scotch, your Mother had even arranged for her maid service to come over to take care of your apartment while you grieved and do a quick clean of Ritaâs. She offered you the Hamptonâs house for a few weeks to get out of the city, when you declined she offered up a week in the French Polynesia all expenses paid. Sighing lightly (while gently squeezing at Caseyâs hand, hoping this wasnât going to be an issue) you declined again, reminding her that you had more than enough shit to deal with, you couldnât be jetting off right now.
Your parents were not only mourning Rita, but equally worried about you and Casey. Itâd been in the papers that Jensen had not only escaped but had some gang affiliations, they were worried that even if heâd vanished, someone with a tie to him would still come after you. The last thing they wanted was to have to bury both of their daughters in the same month. Your Mom gave you a stern lecture on not wandering around alone, especially and night, and your Dad revealed heâd brought you a gun. While you tried to protest that you didnât need it, he reminded you that you were licensed, and definitely knew how to use it. You finally admitted defeat, locking it in the safe before they made their leave. There were lots of long tight hugs, your Mother thanking Casey for keeping an eye on her baby girl during all of this mess. Casey earned herself a tearful hug when she said she wouldnât want to be anywhere else, and for them to call her if they needed anything.
Youâd gone over some of the funeral arrangements with them that afternoon, Caseyâs hand rubbing soft circles in your back every time she knew you were about to crack again. Talking about a funeral made it real, it made it really real, there was no coming back once youâd buried her, she would be put to rest and you would have to move on with your life, no matter how badly you didnât want to. She was partially surprised that things were able to move forward so quickly with the planning, then reminding herself just how much of a pull your family had in the city.
It pained her every time youâd be sitting in the living room, thinking youâd heard a nose in the hall, your head whipping around over the back of the couch to look at the door. As if this was some sort of cruel prank and Rita was coming home now. It was honestly made a little worse by the maid service your Mother had arranged, knowing only yours and Ritaâs apartments were on that floor the sound of someone actually in the hallway always made your heart leap and then crumble a little more. You began to feel a little more of your soul get ripped away from you each time Casey returned from a run, the sound of her keys in the lock made you actually jump up from the couch the first time, racing towards the door before it opened and your face fell. Not that you werenât happy to see her, but in the daydream youâd been living in, you still had both of your girls, not just one. Youâd instantly broken down into tears, she barely managed to catch you before you hit the floor, holding you tightly to her as she cooed soothing words into your skin. That it would be okay. That she would never leave you. That Rita loved you, and so did she, and both of them always would.
On day six, you started making calls, making sure that any clients of Ritaâs knew that you would be taking over their cases. That they werenât forgotten about or being missed in this mess and that you were more than competent to take them to trial, apologizing for the inconvenience of delayed trial times, and if they wanted, they were more than welcome to seek out other counsel. None of them did, knowing the worth behind the name Calhoun, and all of them gave you condolences.
That afternoon you made a trip into the firm, (alongside two of the uniâs SVU had on you) youâd scheduled a meeting with the rest of the partners. While you didnât have much of an actual update on how things were going to change around the office, you simply said that youâd be taking over Ritaâs position, combining your duties, and that they could expect a little more overflow work than normal, at least until you got back on your feet. They obviously all understood, paying their own respects and making sure that you knew you could rely on any of them if you needed. Casey had been hesitant on you going back to work so soon, but you assured her it wasnât real work, you just had to make sure things were sorted out and handled while you took some time.
On day seven, you were thrown for a real loop when your childhood best friend turned up at your door. Not that you hadnât kept in touch regularly over the years, you were just sure she was off dealing with far more important things, and you knew her work took her out of the city on a regular basis. Alex apologized for not being there earlier, having been out of state, sheâd only found out when sheâd actually listened to her Motherâs voicemails when she got back. You told her it was okay, you knew she was out getting her own kind of justice. You welcomed her into your apartment, offering her a drink or food, and she noticed the few pictures of you and Casey on the fridge, teasing you about dating a prosecutor, and mentioning how thrilled your Mom must be. She spent a few hours with you, mainly distracting you from the emotions at hand. Casey came back about half an hour into her stay and she nearly instantly knew you were in good hands, you seemed to be in a better mood that day than any prior. There was a twinge of jealousy that she couldnât seem to make you that happy, but she knew that lifelong friends were the best kind to have, and from what sheâd heard, you and Alex were cradle to grave type best friends.
On day eight, a giant and rather lavish gift basket arrived on your doorstep, full of food, treats and a very expensive bottle of scotch. The card was signed by Donnelly, Petrovsky, and Ginny. The gesture brought your mind back to the DAâs office, and you instantly regretted not reaching out to Rafael sooner, immediately calling him, asking him over. He assured you that it was fine, that Rita had been your family, he understood what a loss like that was, and knew that the two of you were attached at the hip. He did accept the offer though, joining you and Casey for a midday snack and scotch binge. You knew despite his protests, that he mourned Rita nearly as much as you did, theyâd been friends for so long, and such good friends at that, there was no way he wasnât wrought with emotion. As much as they both insisted they were just friends (with the occasional sexual exploit) you knew there was love there, even if it wasnât romantic. You made sure he knew the details of the funeral that weekend, reminding him to seek you and your parents out, he was basically family anyway and theyâd want him sitting up front with you on the day.
Casey left for a run shortly before he left, knowing you were in good hands, and giving you the opportunity to have a few moments of privacy. As much as sheâd known you and Rita for years, she wasnât as close to your older sister as everyone else had been, she was but a mere work acquaintance, and knew there were things youâd want to talk about with them that she wouldnât understand. And the runs gave her a chance to clear her head. When she returned, Barba was gone and you were coming out of the bedroom dressed in work clothes, though they were less lavish than your normal courtroom attire, your face nearly plain, having only swiped on mascara and light brows. The bags and puffiness of your eyes was still very evident.
âAre youâŠgoing to work? Itâs almost eight.â She commented.
âYeah.â You ran a hand over your face, âIâve got a client stuck in customs at JFK. Those airport jails are even worse than the tombs, at least this way I can get him arraigned in the morning and hopefully out on bail.â You sighed, âyou know how it is, the job never sleeps.â
âI know.â She kissed you softly, âstay safe out there, okay?â
âIâll do my best.â You wrapped around her in a tight hug, humming as she kissed the top of your head. âI love you.â
âI love you too.â She cupped your cheek gently, giving you a warm smile before kissing the tip of your nose, âIâll see you soon.â
âDonât wait up okay? I know youâve got an early court date tomorrow.â
âIâm not making any promises.â She joked.
âYou know the combo for the gun safe right?â She nodded, âyou sure?â You double checked, âif youâre here alone I donât want you getting hurt because you were struggling with the code if someone gets in. Thereâs still a chanceâ-
âI know.â Her hands gripped at your shoulders, âbaby, Iâll be fine.â She kissed your forehead, âthe codeâs in my phone, Iâll make sure to double check it. I should be far more worried about you out there on your own.â
âI wonât beâŠIâve got a driver coming and one of the squad cars will be with us at all times. They donât wanna take any chances, a lawsuit against the NYPD coming from the Calhouns would absolutely drown them.â
âThe power of a name.â She teased and you jabbed her in the ribs with your finger.
âIâve gotta run.â You kissed her quickly, âlove you.â

Warnings: language, mentions of blood (period related)
A/N: Yâall you better bet Iâm gonna be using this trope every month to self soothe through this fucking pain until Iâm out of characters...(but this was also technically requested...)
Sitting at the kitchen island you were almost halfway through your coffee, laptop in front of you as you scanned through emails from the weekend. Casey came down the hallway, dumping a pair of heels near the door before hucking a pill bottle roughly in your direction.
âJesus Case! That almost landed in my coffee.â
âSorry.â She mumbled, pouring herself a mug as your hands picked up the small bottle, flipping it around.
âWhyâre you throwing Midol at me?â
âYouâre gonna need it later.â
âHow ominous of you.â
Casey moved around the island, kissing your temple softly as she wrapped an arm around you, her head coming to rest on your shoulder. You hummed at the motion, leaning into her embrace before dropping a kiss to her head.
âI take it you just started?â
âLast night.â
âAnd youâre somehow this perky? God I hate you.â
She laughed lightly, kissing your shoulder before moving to grab a yogurt parfait from the fridge, tossing it into her bag. Youâd envied her basically as long as youâd been together, since her first period during your relationship. She simply shrugged it off and headed to the gym, mentioning that it only ever lasted a few days anyways, and they werenât painful, she could pop a Midol and be on with her day without any worries. You on the other hand, were a grumbling mess, sometimes even starting with horrible cramps days before you started bleeding. Your periods were heavy, painful and knocked you on your ass each month, youâd had partners in the past judge you on it, thinking you were taking advantage, using your weeping uterus as an excuse to get out of things. Thankfully, Casey didnât view you that way and always made sure you were prepared and the goodies were fully stocked, it hadnât taken long before youâd synched up, making it even easier for her to know when you were about to start.
âAre you working from home today?â Casey asked and you glanced up from your laptop, sighing.
âI was gonna go in but after that warning Iâm thinking home office and pyjamas sounds a lot better.â
âOkay.â She ducked in, kissing you gently, âcall me if you need anything. I should be able to get out a bit early today.â
âThanks.â You smiled, grabbing her for another kiss, âlove you.â
âLove you too.â She shot you a dazzling grin as she ducked out the door of the apartment.
Sighing, you looked back at the screen in front of you, wondering if you had at least twenty four hours to power through as much work as you could before youâd be out of commission. You flagged the emails you deemed could be dealt with later, replied to the important ones and took a couple of calls with clients. You made sure to make lunch, double checking that there was enough prepped for dinner and the next day, and then double checked the bathroom for other supplies, shooting a text off to Casey asking if she could pick up extras on the way home. It was just a safety precaution since youâd both be going through it at the same time.
*
Casey managed to get home shortly after four, finding you buried on the couch sleeping. You were wrapped in a weighted blanket, a heating pad clutched against your stomach. She pouted at the sight, kissing your head gently before moving back to the kitchen, flicking the kettle on before darting to the bedroom to change.
When she settled on the couch, gently shifting your head to lay it in her lap you groaned, rolling over slightly, your eyes scrunching in the pain shooting through you.
âSorryâŠâ she murmured, stroking your cheek gently, âI didnât mean to wake you.â
âSâokay.â You grumbled, âshould probably change anyways.â You shoved the blanket off you, groaning out again as the movement pulled another cramp from you. Caseyâs hand snagged the magic bag, popping it back in the microwave for you when you returned.
âAny nausea?â
âI puked after lunch.â You admitted, dropping back to the couch, taking the heating bag back from her, clutching it to your stomach. She pulled the blanket up around you, her hand rubbing soothing circles on your lower back.
âDid you want me to make you something?â
âNo.â You shook your head, ânot yet at least.â You kissed her shoulder, âthank you though.â Accepting the tea sheâd made for you, you snuggled into her shoulder, blowing onto the steaming beverage before you took a sip.
âOkay. You just let me know.â She kissed the top your head gently, her hand continuing to rub at your back while your attention turned back to the t.v.
A few hours later, despite the pain, your stomach began to grumble. Casey had come to know that even if you were hungry, even if your body was trying to tell you to eat, youâd usually ignore it. Sometimes it meant more pain, or more vomiting, but sheâd found a few ways around that over the years.
âHowâs the pain?â She asked, lifting your head from her shoulder.
âYou know that scene in Alien?â She nodded, âI wish that would just happen because I feel like thatâs what my fucking uterus is trying to do.â
âOh sweetheart.â She laughed, kissing you gently.
âLetâs get you some food, hopefully itâll help. Whatâdâyou feel like?â
âI want McDonaldâsâŠâ you grumbled.
âIâll order some.â She moved to stand from the couch and your hand caught hers, pulling her back.
âCase itâs fine, thereâs food in the fridge.â Smiling, she cupped your cheek,
âIf my baby wants McDonaldâs, my baby gets McDonaldâs.â She kissed the tip of your nose and you smiled back at her, âWhatâdâyou want?â
âOne of everything.â You groaned, dropping down onto the couch again, pulling the blanket tighter around you.
Casey laughed, picking up her phone to order, she then mentioned she had a work call to take and you waved her off, not worried about it. You dozed on and off for the next little bit, only really coming to when you heard Casey answer the door. Wincing as you pushed yourself back up to sitting you glanced over the back of the couch.
âCasey!â
âWhat?â She asked, her hands overly full with two large bags of food.
âI was kidding!!â
âI didnât actually get one of everything,â she laughed, placing the bags down on the coffee table, âtheir breakfast menu isnât available all day.â
âGreatâŠnow I want a hash brown.â Smirking, her hands explored the bags for a moment before she pulled out exactly what you asked for,
âTurns out you can get breakfast sides all day.â
âBabyâŠâ you whined and she laughed again, this time at the literal tears blurring into your eyes. âI love youâŠâ
âI love you too.â She replied, but still snagged a bit of the hash brown before letting you have it. It turned out sheâd gotten an array of burgers, chicken burgers, wraps, nuggets, (with extra sauces) fries, and two different kind of McFlurryâs. Nothing too repetitive, but enough to cure whatever craving you could have. You happily munched away on the food, briefly forgetting about how much pain you were in (assisted by Caseyâs nagging to take another Midol).
âYouâre too good to me.â You murmured, wrapping yourself into her arms, âand Iâm jealous of your non murdering uterus.â
âI know.â Her hand stroked at your hair, laying a kiss on your temple, âI hate seeing you in this much pain, you know Iâll do anything to help you relieve it.â She squeezed at your shoulder, âcome on, letâs get you to bed.â

Lawyer bars sucked. Youâd told Elizabeth this several times, but she still insisted on taking you to them. Tonight, she was running a bit late and so you were waiting there by yourself. At least, you wished that you were alone and that a group of defense attorneys werenât staring at you and taking turns trying to get your attention. Not only were they not your type, but theyâd also probably have heart attacks when they saw who you were definitely going home with for the night.Â
âYou look familiar,â one of the guys said. It seemed he was the courageous one of his group, the first to come over. âYou clerk for anybody?âÂ
âI donât have anything to do with law,â you told him. He hummed as he tried to think of where heâd seen you before. âIf you donât mind, Iâm waiting for my partner sir. I really think you should leave me alone.âÂ
âIf youâre waiting for someone here, you definitely do have something to do with law. The question is, if youâre smart enough to know who has the big bucks. You look like a little lady who could use someone to take care of her,â he said and you scoffed.Â
âTrust me, Iâm well taken care of,â you said and he leaned in towards you. Before he could say whatever stupid comment heâd been planning on, Liz pulled you away from him. You turned to smile at her as you greeted her, âHi honey.âÂ
âIs this man bothering you?â Liz asked as her arm circled around your waist. He backed away from the two of you, muttering under his breath. âHow long was that going on?âÂ
âPretty much the whole time. First guy to come down here though,â you said as Liz glanced over at his group. She had a smug look on her face as she pushed hair away from your neck before pressing a kiss to your jaw. âIf you wanted to kiss me and drink, we could have done this at home.âÂ
âSometimes, itâs easier to have someone else make your drinks for you,â Liz reasoned. The two of you stayed in the bar for about an hour longer before you were practically begging her to take you home. You really did hate the bar and it seemed that anytime Liz was away from you, one of those defense lawyers was trying to âsweet talkâ you into going with them. Eventually, Liz got fed up with having to get in between you and those guys, who would definitely not like her the next time they had her in court.Â
It wasnât that difficult to find Amandaâs vehicle in the parking lot. You doubted that a lot of New Yorkers drove trucks. Even though sheâd picked up everything and left Atlanta, she hadnât completely changed. Although, if she had, you wouldnât have gotten the invite to come up and stay with her for awhile. You knew that Kimâs surprise visit was disastrous, but youâd really been working hard to get better. You texted Amanda to let her know that you were outside waiting by her truck, but you didnât expect her to tell you to come in.Â
âExcuse me, Iâm looking for Amanda Rollins?â you said to the officer working the front desk. He pointed you towards the elevator and told you to find her floor. You looked for the button labelled SVU and remembered to press it once you got inside. You were nervous to see Amanda after so long, maybe she wasnât even interested in you anymore. You stepped out of the elevator and as you started walking down a hallway, you felt someone grab your arm. For a moment, you were scared, but then they pulled you into a hug.Â
âGod, I almost didnât recognize you,â Amanda said as she pulled away. You smiled at her and shrugged. âYouâre looking good. How are things down south?âÂ
âKeepinâ my head outta trouble, I swear,â you promised her. âEverythinâs all legal now.âÂ
âWhat do you mean everythingâs legal now?â Amanda asked you as she crossed her arms across her chest. âYour head is out of trouble, out of trouble, right?âÂ
âYeah, but there ainât a lot of work for convicted felons. So, I found a club, Iâm just dancing, I swear.â Amanda sighed and you immediately felt bad. âLet me talk to my boss and then we can head out for lunch. Iâll take you to my apartment, that all you brought?âÂ
âYeah, guess there wasnât a lot of use keepinâ my stuff around if everyone thought I was gonna rot in jail,â you joked and Amanda frowned at you. She left to talk to her captain and then she came back with her jacket. âHow long do we have?âÂ
âUntil they call me in for something.â Amanda grabbed your hand and tugged you into the elevator. âKim talking to you still?âÂ
âNo, um, part of my rehabilitation was cutting ties with people who werenât going to be healthy in my new life,â you said and Amanda nodded. She obviously agreed, having been the first person to tell you not to hang around her little sister. It was hard though, especially whenever Amanda had gone off to college. You hadnât been good at making friends, Kim was closer to your age anyways, and she was more than okay with letting you tag along to parties and whatnot. Itâd been a quick and slippery slope, one that nobody could have stopped you from going down if they tried.Â
âHere ya go,â Amanda said as she opened the passengerâs side door for you. You set your bag in the backseat and then sat down. It was quiet for the most part as Amanda drove around looking for a restaurant. For a moment, it felt like you were back in Georgia with her and the two of you were hanging out after school. âWhatcha thinkinâ about?âÂ
âWhen we used to hang out after school. It was fun, I was so innocent back then,â you said absentmindedly. Amanda frowned and sighed, guilt starting to nag at her for your life having circled the drain. âIt ainât your fault âManda. If anything, I should be thanking you. I mean, the last thing you do before you leave is get me set on the right path.âÂ
âA path youâd have been on if I hadnât just abandoned you.â Amandaâs hands tightened around her steering wheel and you turned to face her. You reached over and placed your hand on Amandaâs leg. âI donât think this is a good idea. What happens when you go back, huh?âÂ
âI dance for money and you solve sex crimes,â you said nonchalantly. Amanda glanced down at your hand as she came up to a red light. âIâll be here for a week, I think that we should make the most of it. Who knows when Iâll have more free time or my parole officer will be in such a good mood.âÂ
âYeah, we should make the most of it,â Amanda agreed. She surprised you when she leaned over and pressed a kiss to your cheek. You blushed a little before deciding to take the plunge and just kiss her. Amanda kissed you back, but not for too long since the light changed. âI canât tell you how long Iâve been waiting to do that.âÂ
âI have a feeling I can, actually,â you chuckled. Amanda let you hold one of her hands and during that lunch, you felt like youâd finally done right by her for the first time in forever. Amanda dropped you off at her apartment, went back to work, and you managed to make a meal out of the frankly odd ingredients in her kitchen.Â
you give me a chill, go-with-the-flow, idc type of vibe. like i could send you a whole ass rant about something really specific and your reply would probably just be something like ânice.â and even if the reply is short and to the point, it doesnât mean you care any less youâre just âš unbothered âš
also, iâll bet 20$ that youâre the type to send someone finger guns like đ đ đ lol
dope, and youâre not wrong about the finger guns thing, I also do those irl.
