First chat portrait!!! I'm inspired by the chat portraits from Battle Network. It took me a few tries but I'm happy about where I landed!
Things have slowed down more than expected but I will persist!
Hey all!
I don't have any footage this time, but progress has been made! I squashed some bugs with multi-enemy encounters and added functional defeat and victory screens.
So far so good on the battle system, it's not done, but the hardest part is! Progress will definitely slow down again now that I'm returning to work, but I don't think it'll be *terribly* slow.
I can't wait to share more updates as they are made!
Hi, I have a question! I recently stumbled across the game you’ve been working on and That it’s made with Godot! My PC has been having issues at the moment I cannot fix.so I downloaded Godot on my android and I don’t know if you have experience with the mobile port, but I just wanted to ask: is it good at all? Thank you and I’m a really big fan of your game it looks really cool and I definitely will be buying it whenever it comes out!
First: Thank you for your interest in Severed Sentiment! It means a lot!
Now to answer your question: personally I don't have any experience with the Android version of Godot. I do know that with the 4.7 release for Godot that they have made improvements to developing on Android!
I can really only offer general advice: A Bluetooth keyboard and mouse should make developing on a mobile device much easier! If Bluetooth isn't an option you may also be able to get a usb-c hub to connect a standard keyboard and mouse to your device.
Aside from Godot, if you're limited to android I recommend the pixel studio app if you're going with pixel art! I've used it myself in the past and it's a solid app.
AND WE GOT MULTIPLE ENEMIES BABYYYYYYY!!!
This took me literally all day but now there can be up to 3 enemies at once!
Time well spent though. I went through the trouble to build up the spawning system using custom resources so *now* if I want to add in a new sequence of enemies I can simply slap some numbers into a file and BOOM- new encounter!

And we got sound effects now! I also added in a hit flash animation and replaced that placeholder selector with a flashing modulate for whatever enemy you're selecting. Also damage, enemy nameplates, etc etc! I suppose one big question now is whether or not to show enemy HP values. I'd really appreciate thoughts on that!
I had been having issues with my PC, particularly the GPU, for weeks. *Very* concerning. Tried drivers, then suddenly it stopped recognizing one of my monitors. Shock and horror, bought an adapter thinking the port went bad, no change. Hail mary attempt- plugged in my Linux Mint usb and booted it up... Both screens turn on.
Backed up my files and decided to finally make the jump to Linux (Decided on Pop!_OS cause I'm used to dealing with debian-based systems). Things are okay! I made my most recent updates to Severed Sentiment on the new OS. Still having to adjust but as long as I can develop I'm good to go.
I've been hard at work today! Set up the pathing for the Dust Bunny's jump attack, now it can attack from any tile! Attacking and countering has been implemented, as showcased in the video. No damage or actual HP values yet, but I'm eager to get more done in the next few days!
I learned how to use Path2d in Godot! So now I'm no longer in panic mode about how to make enemy go brr.
I also did some UI work! I'll have to sit down for some more thorough planning so that it won't be a massive pain to add new enemies and stuff to the battle scene but I'm optimistic moving forward!
I finally started programming the battle system!! I'm excited to get this part ready so I can test out animations as I go! Here I'm showcasing the animation for beginning of grid-based patterns and Amelia's movement and attack animations!

More Battle Stage testing! This is for the tutorial fight. I have roughly 3-5 more stages that I need to make. I wanna try some animated backgrounds soon!
I usually only make progress on the weekends, luckily I still have some fun stuff to show from my vacation! This is another enemy from Severed Sentiment: The Lantern Fairy!
I had fun with the smear frames on this one! Some of the movement for these animations will be handled in-engine though, like floating up and down for the idle animation!
I get scenes stuck in my head that I don't have planned until much later T_T it's super frustrating
I figure if things go well and I can make the project that I really want to, it'll take years so most people won't remember this. Enjoy my lil sketch!
I made a little battle mockup! Seeing things really start to take shape gives me motivation to keep going.
This is where the Battle Network influence really shows through! The plan is that some attack patterns will split Amelia's side into a grid for her to dodge, while others will be more like Mario & Luigi style attacks where you counter via an action.
Hey y'all it's been a minute since I posted!
The move was successful, and I spent the last week getting some work done on Severed Sentiment!!
This time around I mostly worked on Battle Sprites, and it was actually my first time doing a proper full body design of Amelia.
Here she is, as well as the first tutorial enemy!

Van posting part 4!
I've been getting little bits of work done on Severed Sentiment, but nothing very substantial for now.
Part of the reason is that I found an apartment!! It's affordable (for me) and I'll finally have my own space and not have to worry about my current living situation with family! (Yay!)
Unfortunately this also means that I'm spending a lot of time cleaning and preparing for the move, so I'm spending less time on Severed Sentiment at the moment. (Boo!)
BUT- I'm hoping that having a much more comfortable environment where I can actually just *breathe* will mean that I'll be much more efficient once I'm settled in. I look forward to sharing more!
Took a lil break from posting (mostly because I just kept forgetting to!) I actually got some stuff done this weekend! Here's a peek!
