Waiting cursor / beachball of death.
Sound is an extract from Daniel Duane’s ‘Caught Inside’
“I thought how, with the peeling wave as an ideal of perfection, the surfer’s object of passion becomes the very essence of ephemerality-not a thing to be owned or a goal to be attained but rather a fleeting state to inhabit. So much more of my time, after all, passed in the dreaming and searching than in the actual riding of waves; so much more time spent driving the coast and floating between sets. Of a whole year of devotion, probably no more than a day was spent truly on my feet and surfing, so I couldn’t view such a moment as this without an ardent, frustrated desire, a near-religious craving for wholeness. Unlike so many other passions: while on might, I suppose, wish for a bloom to remain in blossom, for a ripening grape to hang always on the vine-yearnings John Keats made his own, for fleeting beauty and youth, the understandably hopeless hope that we might freeze our world’s better moments-the wave’s plenitude is rather in the peeling of the petal, the very motion of the falling fruit.” Page 99
Web browsing. Next look at editing into a canon form, with voiceover or subtitles
First sound experiment, beginning of the poem ‘White Shroud’ by Allen Ginsberg spoken by me and edited with audacity. Needs a lot of development.
Henry Purcell – ‘Tis women makes us love’
Repetition, layering, canon or similar structure. Build up with a similar overwhelmingness of the internet.

Portfolio of Côme de Bouchony, Paris-based independent designer and art director.
Hito Steyerl – How Not to be Seen: A Fucking Didactic Educational.
Performance, internet, voice over, waiting
Ed Atkins – DEPRESION, Serpentine Memory Marathon 2012.
Putting live performance with recorded elements. His sound editing is still fascinating, liked listening to Purcell.
Thinking about sound and what sort of up and down and editing would represent what I want to say with my piece. Think about music scores...
DIAL-UP WAVES
Erol Alkan - A Hold on Love
Repetitive music and video that although has nice images is really dull. The addition of subtitles telling a narrative well is perfect though, maybe I can look at this for my piece to add a sense of story or progress.
Putting together gathered footage of waves, and oscillating water of types. Backing track by Lucky Dragons.
I don't know whether this will have any relevance to my work as I've moved on too quickly, but as part of development I didn't want it to just sit in a folder.

Water one is something I've thought about already, it looks interesting
Alvin Lucier – I am sitting in a room.
Records his own voice, and then loops it, recording each play until the sound becomes an unrecognisable static drone.
Like music in canon it transforms as it builds (morph and disintegrate), allowing a repetitive piece to be more of a narrative.
Ed Atkins - Ribbons, 2014
Use of speech and edited sound with a repetitive video. Adds more of a narrative to a simple piece
Ryan Ganford traded an expensive watch for a large work that he had made. The watch is now an artwork, now called ‘Time is Money, My Friend’ 2011. Big artworks that are unsold cost money, and the artist had had some wine so swapped it for the Bamford Rolex.
"The watch in itself as an object isn’t a significant thing, it’s the story of the trade and the relationship between …"

Ryan Gander, creation of a narrative with a locked exhibition. Locked Room Senario conatains an exhibition called Field of Meaning, with artists from the Blue Conceptualists. He doesn't like flashy neon cheap thin art. But likes Aston Ernest.
Mostly idea of waiting, and not understanding what the work is. Waiting.
Kenneth Martin, Oscillation, 1964
